|0.84km from city centerBooked the penthouse suite for my Mum which was lovely, nice decor, clean and stunning views from the balcony, luckily had nice weather to enjoy it, I stayed in a standard double with a view. Disappointed that there were no extras or better quality biscuits left in my Mums room which had cost over twice the money. There was a coach party and when we returned in the evening wanting to sit in the bar lounge area for coffees there was entertainment going on which was a dreadful racket and no room so we went to her suite instead for a coffee with the Nescafé sachets left in room (not the best) and had to squeeze past people to get to the lift. Breakfast was mediocre again with cheap coffee. Probably the people going on a cheap coach holiday for 5 days would find this hotel & food fair value but paying full price £230 for the suite & £106 for the double I was a little disappointed, have previously booked a night at Lumley castle & at Bowburn Hall hotel both slightly cheaper than this stay & far superior

|0.58km from city centerAbsolutely awful stay. We were in room 1 in the annex, this was a disabled room and the wheelchair support in the toilet was hanging off the wall. We met the room cleaners leaving our room, no cleaning equiptment, all they did was make the bed. We got a drink in the bar, at 10.45pm the bar staff said drink up, I asked for more drinks to be told they'd turned the pumps off. We were told the bar closed at 11.00 and we were residents so dont get why that happened. Staff were sat by the entrance wrapping cutlery in napkins, hardly hygenic when the pulblic are trooping past. No doors opened automatically for the wheelchair, it took two people to hold them open, this was a big problem and needs addressing. A male member of staff came in with fish and chips and sat eating them where customers should be sat,he should have used the staff room. We had a room for 3 and only 2 cups, no milk or coffee so we had to ring reception. The air con didn't work, non of the doors in the annex are soft close and they slammed all night, this was staff members who live on site and dont speak much english. We left the hotel at 5.30 am on our last night due to being kept awake all night, I asked the man on reception ( he struggled to understand my query) if we could possibly have a sandwich each or something for breakfast ( we'd paid for it) to take on our journey home,he said no chef until 7.00am, Im sure he knew how to make a sandwich. The grounds were filthy, clothes hanging from railings, dead ants, litter and cigarette butts and weeds everywhere. This hotel needs condemming, We have never stayed anywhere as bad in our lives. Absolutely horrendous. Not one postitive thing to say about it.

|0.16km from city centerJust returned home from a 3 night stay. Welcomed by a nice lady who showed us how to use the keyless system then we were left to it. Our room was a superior on the 1st floor, easy to get to up a few steps. The room was average sized with a fairly comfortable bed and a nice sized shower. Unfortunately 2 mornings the water was cold. I don't mind a cool shower but many won't. A few *******. The back of the wall on the toilet unit had a golf ball size hole in it which was sharp, and there were the odd cobweb. Only 2 portions of milk and one ginger biscuit (at least leave 2) Nothing to write home about. The bed was comfortable and there were nice big windows that could be opened to let the world in. A fan, hairdryer kettle etc and there was Netflix & a Google smart speaker which was very handy. Excellent location and yes, it can be a bit noisy but it's on a main street. The smells were amazing coming from all the restaurants. There was a little bar which the owners state could be utilised for a drink if you ask but I think they may be missing a trick by not using it as a selling point? Parking is plentiful around the place, the most you have to walk is a few yards ( and I have a blue badge). Thanks for having us Overall a lovely stay. Thank you
