I stayed at Dusky for work throughout the winter of 2021 up until the recent spring. Russell the manager was absolutely incredible.Proper legend. He went out of his way to help me, no request was ever too much and always made sure my time staying was to the utmost standard. All with a smile on his face. I work remotely and sometimes this spans time-zones, giving me strange hours. Russell was always so courteous to this fact and always made sure everything was ok with my work/life/staying schedule. The team he's put together are great; always friendly, happy to help and just to talk to in passing. All this with the uncertainty amid a pandemic. I cannot thank Russell enough. Kitchen is spacious, very clean and always had a great atmosphere with the other guests passing through, so all of the above with absolutely great value, there is no shadow of a doubt that I will be returning to stay; business or leisure.

Greeted warmly by the manager who took time to enquire as to our travel to date and that of our future plans. Reception area was well stocked with information relating to the local area, but the manager was also quite willing to advise on any interests we had. Room was on the upper level which enabled us to have an awesome view of the Seaward Kaikouras. Stunning to wake up to, and to look at throughout the day. Particularly while snow-capped. Having a balcony on which to continue their admiration was a bonus. Studio room was large, inviting, and comfortable. Containing a large comfortable bed, chairs, and a table on which one could work on. Kitchenette was large and well stocked with both utensils and complimentary beverage (tea/coffee/drinking chocolate) sachets. Bathroom was large and contained an awesome shower over a spa tub, leaving one to have to make the agonizing choice between a heavenly high pressured hot lavation or a lengthy immersion amidst bubbles. Both are guaranteed to bring you into a state of tranquility. A profound value for money. A decision to overnight here on our way home (a mere two hours away) has already resulted in making bookings to return for an extended period.

Lovely little inn on top of the hill in Kaikōura. Family run, so you’ll likely meet the owner who is a very nice woman. She does an adorable continental breakfast spread every morning with hard boiled eggs, meats and cheeses, yogurt, fresh fruit and granola, fresh bakery muffins and breads, jellies, etc. We had a back room with a porch and the most AMAZING view. At night you can sit out and just stare up at the stars. The night sky in Kaikoura is stunning. The only downside was no AC and no ceiling or any fans in the room. But we opened the windows and double door and there was a breeze like 90% of the time so I guess in NZ it’s all about letting the outside in!

Very welcoming landlady. The environment of the family hotel is super nice, facing the sea and snow-capped mountains, with green grass and beautiful flowers at the door. The breakfast made by the landlord’s wife is also rich and delicious. It is also convenient to walk to the center of town for dinner. Great!

We were recommended to stay, by friends, and we were not disappointed. Very clean, tidy, cosy unit for an overnight stay on our way to Christchurch. Friendly hosts, Shirley and Morgan, and our unit 12, Studio unit had everything we needed. Quiet from highway noise. You do hear the 2 trains but we love hearing them. Loved the fact that we could go out the gate at the end of the property and walk onto the beautiful, pounding surf beach. Sunrise the next morning, with snow on the mountains, was stunning. We will be back.

A lovely friendly welcome greeted us after a long drive from Christchurch. Situated just off the main highway, it is easy to find. The suites are a good size, very quiet, well equipped, good shower, and each has an outdoor space over looking a central courtyard. There is a supermarket and a pub serving good food within walking distance. The small charming town is a 2 minute drive away. This is not a beach resort but great for dolphin whale & seal watching. Thoroughly recommend.

We stayed at the Admiral Court Motel as it was not in the busy downtown area. The place was top notch. We had a great room with a deck that looked out to the water & the mountain range in the distance (they had snow on them the next morning-no wonder it was a nippy night). The owners were friendly, the room was clean & had everything in that we required. We would certainly recommend.

There's more choice of accommodation in Kaikoura these days, with the recent opening of the Sudima hotel. Nevertheless, we opted for this small but beautiful old hotel instead, forsaking swanky newness for period charm and the personal touch. We were not disappointed. We chose a Historic Waterfront Room for our stay - and we loved it. Sometimes, rooms in older hotels like this have compromises, because they were never built to have their own bathrooms, for example. Not so here. Our lovely spacious room had an equally spacious bathroom, all beautifully and tastefully decorated with stylish quality materials. Although the weather wasn't quite warm enough to make the most our balcony, we could still enjoy the sea view from our amazingly comfortable bed. The downstairs bar was a relaxing and friendly place to while away a little time in the afternoon over a drink. Erin, our cheerful and vivacious host, was very helpful with suggestions for dining. We were grateful also to owner Jen, who worked around our changing arrangements when Covid interfered with our original holiday dates.

New modern hotel with a mainly neutral colour scheme. Reasonable amount of parking on site, or plenty along the Esplanade. Rooms average size. We went as a group so we had no choice, many of us ended up in rooms with twin beds, they are very comfortable but when you share your bed with your spouse, this wasn't expected nor enjoyed. No electric blankets. It's the middle of winter. I did phone reception 3 times over a couple of issues but the calls were never answered. The rooms heat pump is good, though no heating in the corridor and reception is rather cool too. Tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. Glasses, but no wine glasses in the rooms. Good sized bathroom and good shower. They only provide one hard club chair, seating for anyone else there's a round squab or the bed. Most of the signs are in Maori, only one in our large group could understand a few words. The large group of Asians also staying had no idea of what anything meant. Excellent staff. Helpful and friendly. Uniforms a little casual for this level of hotel. Catering for large groups can often be a challenge, the food offered suited all tastes and was very good. Good cocktail menu. I don't drink much, but really enjoy an Aussie Shiraz, but they only stock NZ wines. Just meant I drank water. The hotel is sited down the south end of the Esplanade, so a bit of a walk to the township. Good, modern, clean, quiet 4.5 star hotel.

I have never slept in a garage before, however comfortable. The garage door was hidden behind a curtain, but the tracks were still on the ceiling. The positive thing was that it was very large and had 2 single beds + 1 Queen bed (all very comfortable), as well as a refrigerator. Bathroom was across the hall, not in a private area. Kitchen & living room was a shared space on the floor above (with an elevator). It was well stocked for breakfast and the area was modern and bright. It was very quiet and was in a mainly residential area. It was cool in March, so I really appreciated the electric blanket on the beds. I would recommend it for a single night's stay.

Being on a road trip for 6 weeks in New Zealand, after a day’s drive, we arrived for a 2 night stay, ready to settle in and relax. Unfortunately, there was an error with our reservation - we booked 2 nights, but they had us for only 1 night and it was the busy Easter weekend. Our reservation was made 11 mos before and they immediately acknowledged their error and upgraded us to the only room left, a beachfront apartment! They were kind, courteous and definitely owned up to their error. The room was great, clean, wonderful location and best of all, a very comfortable bed and amazing recliners to sit and watch the ocean from our patio doors! Would highly recommend and was grateful for the wonderful service.

Great room, great lookout to the Kaikoura ranges and the beautiful foreshore. Less than a 10min walk to town and great eateries there to have a meal. If there is one criticism, it would be that a sign be placed on the doors for those upstairs to show some compassion for others and close their doors quietly. particularly late at nigh and early in the morning. Otherwise I would recommend this place.

I stayed 2 nights. Matthew, the owner Michelles’ son, is fantastic. Nothing is a problem for this guy … virtually leaping out of his skin to give you the best service you’ll find anywhere regardless of price …. he knows every service supplier in the area .. just ask the guy where anything is and he’ll hook you up, even call them ahead for you to make sure they are open. I mentioned in passing to Matthew I had an issue accessing my overseas sports streaming subscription and the dude took the time to install a VPN on my iPad — hey presto I had access to US Netflix & my seperate Australian STAN Sports subscription 😃 The motel is super clean, all the other staff are friendly as hel as well … It’s about a 12 min very very pleasant walk along the waters edge to the bars / shops / restaurants .. I doubt you’ll find better value for your buck in terms of proximity, service or presentation of room. The motel is a little older but it’s super well maintained with a new fit-out and you can park your vehicle right out front of your room. LOCATION IS RIGHT OPPOSITE THE WATER.

Stayed 3 nights in Jan 2021 and had a wonderful relaxing family holiday. Unit faced the esplanade / seaside and included 2 balconies to watch for potential whale sightings - Apprently we had missed a pod of dolphins the day before right outside! Parking was inside an open garage on the G/F and close by. Apartment was fully self contained with full kitchen, Dining & Lounge and all appliances including washing machine, dryer & DishDrawer. 2 Bathrooms with Shower Domes over showers which helped to keep moisture to a minimum. LCD TVs in Lounge and master Bedroom. Can fully recommend the Encounter Cafe just down the road for breakfast - fast and tasty. Its part of the Dolphin Encounter Centre. Also right next door is the Mayfair Cinema originally built in 1934 and extensively rebuilt in 2020. A fantastic example of Art Deco architecture and there's an exhibition of the rebuild beautifully photographed by a famous local artist. Look for the amazing wooden beams supporting the roof!

Unit was extremely clean and comfortable and had little 'treats' that you don't normally find in similar accommodation places. Breakfast in the morning was excellent including Jens homemade bread. There is no extra charge for children staying. The room has a small terrace with a nice view The landlord has a dog and a cat, very cute The lodging location is not in the center of the town, but the town itself is not big, so it doesn't matter if you drive. A few hundred meters to the supermarket. Drive 5 minutes to the whale watching and embarkation point.

The location is very good, right at the core of Kaikoura, on the side of the coastline. The room is generally hygienic, with a strong smell of food, which has not dissipated even after the skylight has been opened for a long time. The laundry equipment is quite dirty, it is no different from nothing, I dare not use it. I booked a two-bedroom suite with sea view, the so-called sea view can only see a small corner~
