I don’t know where to start. We arrived earlier than we anticipated in Taupo. I called in to check if they allow early check in the first lady who answered said no they do not allow it. Second try another lady answered and said yes we can check in an hour earlier than the check in time. I forgot to get her name she was awesome. When we arrived in the reception and get the paperwork done. I asked about the breakfast like I wanted to know specifically if they do room service as stated on the website, I asked how about the breakfast, do you..? I haven’t even finished what I was about to ask the lady said no the breakfast isn’t included you need to pay it in the bistro. Also they didn’t inform us that you need to book in for a table in the bistro. So dinner came, we went to the bistro and they said they can’t accommodate us because we do not have a booking. Right, that’s fine. I asked can we then just order food and just send it to our room? The lady said sure. After she had taken our order and paid. We are about to go back to our room she said you need to wait for your food as we don’t deliver it to rooms (take note that on their website it says room service is available). We stayed patient and said ok. We waited for i dunno how long. I was trying to stay calm and patient. And was thinking, ohh maybe they will atleast put our food in a take away container as it’ll be awkward and humiliating to carry a tray back to your room. But heck NO! We literally had to carry 2 trays of food back to our room. I have never felt so humiliated ever! Also the Indian guy who’s the manager was so disrespectful. One of the waitress saw us waiting and approached us to ask if we wanted something to drink that manager kept on calling the lady even if he saw that she was talking to us. Not to mention that our room has linens in the plastic bags outside of our room. NO! i don’t recommend this hotel nor the bistro if you want to have a fun vacation. HECK NO!

We enjoyed our stay at Haka Lodge Taupō! We booked last minute and I managed to stuff up the booking in regards to date and the team at Haka Lodge Taupō were awesome nad made sure the second booking was cancelled. Easy check in, and we had a trailer in tow, so we we were able to park it out the front. Our car and trailer were safe during our entire stay, however, I would remind anyone with a trailer that if they're parking on the road front to use a wheel lock for extra safety. The Executive Double room we stayed in was really warm, bathroom next door was clean and the hostel was not rowdy. There was a stag do on the same weekend we were staying there and the noise was very minimal. Would highly recommend staying here in the future.

We were met by a lady at the front desk who gave my husband the low-down of where to park and so-on, then she flagged us down and offered a free upgrade to a water view room which was a pleasant surprise. The room was spotlessly clean, immaculate inside and well stocked with everything you could need kitchen-wise for a short stay. We were given a small glass bottle of milk and left to it. The curtains were block out so we had excellent sleeps as the rooms were so dark! Pump bottles of soap and shampoo provided as well as a hair dryer. Being able to access Netflix was a bonus in the evenings! A quick few minutes walk into town makes it a great location! A little road noise until about 10pm then it’s pretty quiet. Our room was made up again whilst out which was nice to come back to and fresh towels given. A really wonderful stay - we would be happy to return here.

I am a 64yr old lady who booked a solo stay for 3 nights. Whilst the room facilities were superb, at the start of my stay I had some minor issues - the shower drain was blocked and room lighting was too dark to write at the desk or read anywhere - no desk or reading lights. However, I had a serious (for me only it seems, per the hotel manager) issue on the 3rd night. In the evening I began to smell fumes in my room. When I tried to contact management (instructions to use the room phone after 7pm) I found the room phone not working. I then hunted for a landline number to call management, only to be told that it was neighbouring house fires because of the cold weather, and moving rooms would not make any difference. I had to make the tough decision to leave the hotel and drive home (4 hr drive in the dark). I have a chronic health condition and staying in the fumes was making me queasy. No-one from the hotel came to check on me nor contact me that evening. I emailed the hotel the next working day, seeking a refund for this lost 1 x nights stay, and the response was: Firstly, the alleged fumes are not within the hotel. The DM checked and there were no fumes IN the hotel. We believe ,these so called fumes were from the wood fire OUTSIDE the hotel from chimneys. We have no control over them. They are not overwhelming. We had 36 guest in house that night and had no complains. Secondly, you checked in the evening past 7pm. That is a full day charge anyway. We cannot be refunding guests for any matter that happens outside the premises and that we cannot control. I leave you to decide .....not even an apology for the "in-room" issues. I suggested the hotel contact the Council about its Winter air quality (there is law about this) or get some in-roof filters. You cannot ignore what is clearly a Health & Safety issue, where the health & well-being of your guests is at risk. Clearly the Quest Taupo can in this case.

Initially looking at the photos of the place, the rooms and motel look recently renovated, and seemed well worth the cost. However, upon arriving, 1st impressions were, "this isnt what the photos show"; "little bit of false advertising going on here". However, not one to judge a book by its cover and to give everything a chance, the hope was that the room would be as good as the website showed and stated. Well, long story short, it wasn't. Not just the motel but the room itself. The motel looks dated and very cheaply built. Even the workmen ship looks cheap too, including the products used. The paint, the carpet on the stairs and patio, hell, even the card readers on the doors; it all looks like it was brought at the $2 shop. Then the room itself. Um, put it this way, the floor tiles on the kitchen and bathroom floors and the tv were the only new/recent things in the entire room. Only mentioning 3 things: 1: a massive Bench oven, that belongs in the 70's, instead of a microwave, which is found in any other motel. 2: the so called "2 in 1 shampoo/ body wash". Ya felt more dirtier/grubbier after using that, compared to before hopping in. WAY Better off buying/providing both your own, AND ACTUAL, shampoo and soap. 3: unless you're wearing very dark sunglasses, dont bother turning on the light in the shape of a balloon/lantern. Its brighter than the brightness of burning magnesium. ( plus: - the bed was very hard, - no sky tv + not all freeview channels work either, - the a.c unit is in the wrong place; pointless only cooling/heating a smidge of the room, instead of the whole room, - only one power socket on one side of the bed; no option of extension lead either, - buy own milk, unless you feel like using 6 sample sized tubs for your coffee. - hope everyone parks straight and proper in car parks, otherwise, good luck; it's not the best. In a nutshell, if your happy to stay and pay at a motel that is not only falsely advertised and way over priced, but was designed and built for extremely cheap, including the "Far East" interior design, and b.y.o is better than what's provided, then by all means, stay here. Oh, and the lake is best viewed from the downstairs, outside and uncovered deck. Lovely views of the road from your room. #wontstayhereagain #disappointed #wasteofmoney #rattenshizer

Hotel location is good, very close to the lake, driving very good parking, is a little distance from the bus station, about 15 minutes walk. It can be said to be on the edge of the city, but relatively quiet. There is a convenience store opposite. There is a kettle and a toaster in the house to heat the bread and microwave. The room is large and the layout is warm. The hotel owner is very Chinese and very enthusiastic. It can provide all kinds of information and answer various questions.

There are some car hotels, right next to Lake Taupo, the scenery does not say, the car stops at the door of the room, very convenient, very suitable for self-driving travel. The rooms are compact but well-equipped, cooking and bathing are not a problem. It is very close to the supermarket and the place to eat, and there are two or three intersections by car. The New Zealand big sister at the front desk was very enthusiastic and stayed with milk.

We booked online and stayed for only one night because we were driving down south from Auckland. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and there was a spa bath in the bathroom. And there was ample parking on-site. There was nothing that I could complain about. However, for the price, you would expect that the place would have lake views. But then, I suppose they can get away with higher prices simply because it's Taupo. In summary, if I go to Taupo again, I'd look for a place with views of the lake. And if those turn out to be much more expensive, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Beechtree Motel again.

We have stayed at this motel before and as returning patrons we were not disappointed. Super clean, comfortable with full amenities to make the stay so pleasing. The downside is that there are no blinds/nets on the windows that look out on to entrance way and you do feel exposed before nightfall. Would suggest to owners that should be rectified. Keys to rooms are difficult to use. Couple next to us were knocking on our door at 9pm to ask us to help get them into their unit. Keep it simple is what I think! Shame to read of other travellers having concerns over Covid refunds. Not good for public relations.

One night stay here at Voyager Apartments. Got a very sharp last minute price via the website. I was looking forward to a stay in what was pictured to be a lovely spacious apartment. Parking is directly outside the unit, not sure what you would do if there were two families staying as there is only one car park allocated per unit. Would probably have to park on the road I guess. Down stairs is a room that houses a couch, easy chair, TV, 4 seater Table and Chairs and a small Kitchenette. To call it a kitchen would be a stretch. You could cook a meal, but it's not a full sized kitchen. Small Bar Fridge, small oven and dish draw. Under the stairs is a combined washer/drier unit. I took the chance after several days on the road. Not matter what I tried, clothes always came out smelling funny. Sent them through several times with always the same result. Behind a locked door was what I assumed is a second bedroom. I had only booked a one bedroomed apartment so that was all good. There is also a small bathroom with a toilet and shower. Upstairs is a large bedroom with french doors out to a wonderful balcony, and bi fold doors into a bathroom with a large spa bath and a toilet. Spa bath had a shower head attached to the tub, but for a proper shower you have to go downstairs. King Sized bed with a small TV wall mounted by the wardrobe. The Good: Great Location, close enough to the lake, but without the road noise that comes with being on Lake Tce. Short driving distance to town. Good Linen, sheets and towels ect. Very clean and tidy Friendly staff Small swimming pool which is a delight. The Bad: The extractor fans in both bathrooms are SO DAMN NOISEY. Cannot hear yourself think. A spa bath with a horrendous whiring extractor fan was in no way relaxing. Could even hear it over the noise of the shower. There is a window high up above the stair well, which is near enough facing east. No blind or anything over this which let in SOO much light into the bedroom early. Wallpaper throughout the apartment was peeling and needs attention. TV in bedroom was super fuzzy and nearly unwatchable. It just feels dated and tired. It is in need of some love and care. Would stay again if I could get a similar price, but I certainly dont feel it would represent very good value for money if I had paid the full rate. There are far better places in Taupo that offer value for money. If you can get a sharp price though, Voyager is a good place to rest your head for the night.
