|1.2km from city centerRoom was a bit small for a king size bed and there was a leak by the bathroom toilet so we were relocated to a different room. So despite the relocation nuisance we were compensated a free night stay and some Bonvoy Marriott points. Pool area was very clean and the water was a nice temperature. The one bartender was especially nice and all of the other service people were very polite and cordial.

|1.2km from city centerMy family and I stayed here for a last minute weekend trip to Wilmington. The location was perfect - easy walk to all the downtown area and riverfront district. Hotel was quiet, comfortable and clean. We experienced no issues with our room. Beds were comfortable and the ac unit was quiet. As always with all hotels, I did not like the pillows. Unfortunately I forgot mine at home. Bathroom/shower were clean and the room decor I thought was modern. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, greeted us and quick to assist. Even the valet staff were quick and friendly. Breakfast was normal free breakfast. Nothing spectacular but the basics were there. Pool is small but clean. We looked at the fitness room but did not use. It also looked clean. Great place for a weekend visit especially if you want to walk around town. Highly recommend.

Despite what other individuals have posted regarding this location in the past, it is currently immaculate and and even the rate is extremely competitive considering you are only 15-20 minutes away from the beach :-). The hotel was clean, updated, decor was nice, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety of foods. It was well stocked with towels, had plenty of hooks and rods to hang stuff on, and lots of surface area and shelving for my hair and beauty supplies. I was camped out there for a few days while my dad was in the hospital and I could not be more grateful for the kind and caring staff. They tended to my needs including extending my stay when I learned my dad would be there a few more days and fixing my key cards proactively so I wouldn't have trouble coming and going. The free breakfast and other little details allowed me to focus on my dad. Thanks so much!

Was given a friendly and enthusiastic and informative welcome of all of the hotel's amenities and activities and the Manager's welcome. Great service at the bar at the welcome and then a walk to dinner. The rooms in the hotel were well configured for a couple with lots of space and a clean and comfortable bed. The next morning with breakfast ending at 9:30, I was a little late and the staff was cleaning up, but when they saw me they prepared 2 ”take to the room” platters for us that were delicious. All staff went over and above to make our stay great. We will go back just to stay there in the future.

Prior to me arriving, my manager booked my stay and at the time of the booking he stated that the stay should be completely charged on his credit card. The Hampton Inn employee stated because we are with a group, the security deposit would be $15 per day and I was aware that a charge would be on my personal credit card, which was fine . When I checked in, the lady at the desk said she would charge for the security deposit. I was staying for 3 nights , so there should have been a charge of $45. Once I got to my room, I checked my account and saw there was a $500 charge on my account . I went back down to the front desk and calmly said to the lady, I am just looking for clarity on why my card was charge this amount when that’s not the agreement that was told by phone. I was immediately met with hostility and was told “I’m not going to argue with you, you can talk to the manger.” The manager Sheeri Hightower came out and she was just as rude. She was very dismissive and told me no credit card was on file for my reservation and that’s why I was charge. That was a complete lie , because you can’t even book a reservation without a credit card and if that was the case, why wasn’t that mentioned when I checked in??! So, I went back to my room. As I walked away, I heard Sheeri Hightower and her employee laughing at me as I walked away(Nice way to make your guest feel welcomed.)To make a long story short, I had my manager email over his credit card info so he could cover the reservation. My manager called me and told me he talked to the front desk and it should be handled. Instead of the hotel manager calling me to tell me the issue was resolved and my credit card would be refunded, I heard nothing from them. So I stopped by the front desk again, Just to confirm they received my managers credit card and that it would be refunded . Again, I was met with an attitude and was talked to In a condescending tone. The following day, I was at the bar by the pool and the manager Sheeri Hightower walked behind the bar, looked dead at me and didn’t speak . She turned her back to me and ate a hamburger behind the bar and never acknowledged me. Once she was done, she walked away. The Hampton Inn needs to take a better look at the type of people they are hiring . I have been a customer service manager for 15 years and I would never be this rude to a customer. When my company has another convention, I will recommend they find another hotel. I will never stay here again.

|5.9km from city centerHotel overall during renovation is one star. Five stars goes to front desk staff named Kenyatta. She was the only highlight that made the stay tolerable. For every issue we had, she addressed with such attention. She personally came to our room to deliver new key cards and take us to a new room because the first room’s ac/heating unit was obnoxiously loud. When I requested extra K cups for the keurig, she went above and beyond to find them since housekeeping was not around with a supply. Again, she came to our room to deliver them. As for the hotel’s first impression, there is no lobby. We were diverted to a door next to lobby doors where the make shift “front desk” is tucked into an alcove where Vending machines would sit. It’s literally a table with a computer on it. The lobby is literally a hallway. There is a reason this hotel is being renovated, everything is old. Felt depressing walking down the hallway to our room. There is a pool, but you have to cut through the outside to get to it. Not ideal for January. The pool itself also looked depressing. When asked about it, staff said they would have to get maintenance to move furniture around before use. Beds are meh. Definitely stayed in more comfortable beds with fresher linens. Overall, old hotel with old furniture, including TV. I’ve been spoiled with smart TV in hotels now. The to go “brown bag” breakfast was pretty good. Makes up for the non existent dining area for free breakfast this hotel would typically offer. Maybe after renovations everything will be better. Stay clear of this place til then.

Restaurant service is great and the help is always friendly with a warm smile. Rooms are spacious and always clean and sanitary. Our room was fantastic and even passed my scrutiny, Anthony Melchiorri (Hotel Impossible) style from throwing back bedsheets to using a UV light on the surfaces. Our breakfast was delicious, thanks to Kelly, a very friendly lady who makes a delicious quiche. Our suite was spacious and had full kitchen with pots, pans,dishes etc. I would highly recommend this great place conveniently located to Wrightsville Beach, Airlie Gardens, historic downtown Wilmington and Carolina Beach.

The TV was also a smart TV, so we could log into our Youtube and Netflix accounts - when I went to sign out before checking out, it said they auto sign you out upon checkout. Very smart. Also very friendly and helpful desk staff.

The property is in the downtown area and adjacent to the local college campus and is a River front property... and that ladies and gents is my only issue. What I am about to write will no doubt be read by people who will think Hmmm, what a self-entitled ***** and to that I will correct you and ask you to remove the ”self” part and focus SOLELY on the ENTITLED part. I am and have been for several years a Diamond HHonors member. You achieve Diamond (Hilton's HIGHEST level of guest loyalty) not because you OCCASSIONALLY stay at a Hilton branded property, but because you stay at them CONSTANTLY. In order to get there, you have not only spent nights in their bed's but THOUSANDS of dollars to achieve that level of brand LOYALTY. Among the perks/benefits of that level of BRAND LOYALTY (please note the theme here with that word) you have the right to request a room upgrade at check in among other benefits. For the record, not once since achieving Diamond status, have I requested my room be upgraded to a suite. Primarily because I am in the hotel for one day and on to my next property the following day, most times leaving in the middle of the night due to the line of work I am in. Today, as I arrive at the Ballast, I notice the river and the USS North Carolina museum ship moored just behind the hotel. I get to my room and discover that I am street side in an odd numbered room and would really like to get some upper view photos of the battleship. I returned to the desk and ask if I could be switched to a waterside room. Now, for the record the hotel is NINE STORIES TALL and as near as I can calculate has 26 water facing rooms on each floor. Assuming, that floors one and two and possibly three are event and meeting space that still leaves six floors or 156 water side rooms available for booking. Imagine my surprise when I am informed that ”sorry, there is no way for me to move you” You're telling me that 156 rooms are occupied by folks that are incredibly LOYAL to your brand? That the2 wedding parties that you tell me are in house could not be equally accommodated in street side rooms? So much for brand LOYALTY!

(Pork and turkey) whole wheat bread available, muffins, cereal, yogurt. Coffee and tea at all hours in the lobby. Pool, weight room, free guest laundry, computer and printers. Room was large and clean. The only negatives were broken toilet paper hanger and not enough towels had to ask for more. Also one of the maids got angry when I forgot to leave a tip and didn’t really change the beds one day but that was a disgruntled employee. Overall excellent experience. Somewhat pricey but you get what you pay for.

I have stayed at many hotels all over the eastern US but none have compared to this one. The hotel itself is great, rooms are spacious and clean, everything is great.. but what really sets it apart is the people. On my most recent stay, Sam checked me in and was extremely personable and polite. Before me there was a lady complaining about some noise that other guests were making and Sam did an incredible job keeping his composure and talking with her professionally and politely. Most of all I am delighted with Michelle Dillers customer service. As I mentioned, I stay often. On my most recent stay, she went as far as to leave me a goodie bag with a personal note on it. I couldn’t be more happy with this hotel and I would recommend it to anybody!

I am in a wheelchair and the ramp to the front door is not covered..and the entry into room 301 was too steep for my wheelchair to go over, unless I backed in, but the room was big enough, but the bathroom was really small. The only handicapped rooms they have are only king beds, so where does a caregiver sleep, comfort inn? the room had a small fridge, microwaves are in king suites, only. The breakfast was hot and good, even though I am gluten and lactose intolerant. They had eggs, sausage or bacon, grits, oatmeal, cereal, soy milk, fresh fruit and more. All the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean. Most if not all the corridors are outside, so you could get rain blown wet.

|1.56km from city centerCheck in process was not smooth due to room keys not programming correctly at check in. We were sent upstairs to “try” the key which of course didn’t work. The hotel staff was very kind about it and came up to let us into the room until keys could be programmed. The major disappointment was our room. It had 2 doubles which is perfect for family traveling, but the glass shower is front and center with a view from every direction within the room and from the exterior hallway. Not a family friendly stay.

The front-end employees were excellent with extra soap and towel requests, and it was nice to see they had a breakfast rather than the bagged to go breakfasts some motels are still handing out. They had 2 waffle machines and even had chocolate pancake batter, along with microwave biscuits and burritos, cereal, fruit, pastries etc. The Orange juice machine did break one day. It was nice to see the USA Today available on the table in the lobby.
