3.07km from The ShirelandMy husband booked a valentine tribute night dbb as a surprise because we had got married here. It started off really well, the room was lovely and spacious and we had champagne, strawberries and chocolates as part of our stay, which was a good thing because the bar didn't open until 5. We were told to go to the function room between 7 and 7.30 and we went in around 7.10. wWe asked where we were sitting, to be informed "it's over there somewhere, just look for your name" After a while someone came to take our food order and eventually our starters arrived. We both had the chicken liver parfait to start, mine was frozen solid. I had to call someone over and they took mine back and then retuened an unfrozen one which was good. After a considerable wait, and mains were brought out, the plates were warm but unfortunately none of the food was. Again we had to shout to get someone's attention, they took the food away and we waited again for our meals. The mains came back. plates hot, Meat and roast potatoes hot but everying else cold, ate the hot bits and left the rest. Not one member of staff except for the bar manager seemed particularly bothered. The bar manager came over and was very apologetic and arranged for a free drink. Around 9pm the manager came over and said that the desserts would be ready soon, we thought it strange that we weren't given a menu to choose but he came back and said they were being served at the back of the room. I had to then stand in a queue to get a badly served piece of cheescake and some cheese and biscuits for my husband. Meanwhile, all around us was chaos, it was 9.30 and people still hadn't had their main courses. The people on the table next to us actually went up and got dessert before they had their mains, They got one of the large cakes and were dishing it up on the table because they were so hungry. A large 70th birthday party the other side of us still hadn't received their food. The tribute act seemed quite good but you couldn't see them and they didn't seem to be on for very long. People were encouraged to dance but there wasn't really enough room. We went back to the room to find that the heating wasn't working but by this stage, we were too fed up to complain. Breakfast was very good and the staff at breakfast were lovely, totally different to the evening before. Overall, a very disappointing stay, maybe if everything hadn't been so fantastic when we got married we wouldn't have been so upset at the lack of customer service.
