Stayed here as part of a group booking for a cheap place to stay over night at the time of year and we weren’t going to be in the rooms long. The place is very basic and very run down. The room itself was okay, the beds were comfy but a large patch where there had either been a leak or botched repair job. I’m sure if the lighting was better I’d have been more horrified. The shared bathroom on the basement floor we were on was fitted with a PVC back door, the frosted glass on the window was only fitted halfway so next door could see you showering. And to top it off, there was not hot water and can confirm it was the coldest shower I’ve ever had. Opposite the bathroom was a “storage area”. Which was all the maintenance tools/equipment hidden behind an old hung bedsheet. Felt on edge for the majority of my stay and it was clear some people are clearly living there long term as a bedsit. I’m just glad I only spent roughly 9hrs in the room. Only giving it 2 stars because it cost £20, and slept well. The latter might be because I’d had 6 pints.

My husband booked a valentine tribute night dbb as a surprise because we had got married here. It started off really well, the room was lovely and spacious and we had champagne, strawberries and chocolates as part of our stay, which was a good thing because the bar didn't open until 5. We were told to go to the function room between 7 and 7.30 and we went in around 7.10. wWe asked where we were sitting, to be informed "it's over there somewhere, just look for your name" After a while someone came to take our food order and eventually our starters arrived. We both had the chicken liver parfait to start, mine was frozen solid. I had to call someone over and they took mine back and then retuened an unfrozen one which was good. After a considerable wait, and mains were brought out, the plates were warm but unfortunately none of the food was. Again we had to shout to get someone's attention, they took the food away and we waited again for our meals. The mains came back. plates hot, Meat and roast potatoes hot but everying else cold, ate the hot bits and left the rest. Not one member of staff except for the bar manager seemed particularly bothered. The bar manager came over and was very apologetic and arranged for a free drink. Around 9pm the manager came over and said that the desserts would be ready soon, we thought it strange that we weren't given a menu to choose but he came back and said they were being served at the back of the room. I had to then stand in a queue to get a badly served piece of cheescake and some cheese and biscuits for my husband. Meanwhile, all around us was chaos, it was 9.30 and people still hadn't had their main courses. The people on the table next to us actually went up and got dessert before they had their mains, They got one of the large cakes and were dishing it up on the table because they were so hungry. A large 70th birthday party the other side of us still hadn't received their food. The tribute act seemed quite good but you couldn't see them and they didn't seem to be on for very long. People were encouraged to dance but there wasn't really enough room. We went back to the room to find that the heating wasn't working but by this stage, we were too fed up to complain. Breakfast was very good and the staff at breakfast were lovely, totally different to the evening before. Overall, a very disappointing stay, maybe if everything hadn't been so fantastic when we got married we wouldn't have been so upset at the lack of customer service.

... the coronavirus rollercoaster that we're all still very much on, was the unwelcome pretext to getting married earlier this month... suffice to say, the ever-shifting parameters of government restrictions, meant that not only was our imminent wedding never guaranteed, even just days prior, but that by the time it was actually happening, we were on about Plan F!!! Right from the outset, the wonderful staff at SPH excelled themselves & could not do enough to accommodate us, re both our intimate wedding reception held in their private dining room at the back of the restaurant, and our two nights stay as guests at their beautiful hotel. Considering all the restrictions & limitations that needed to be observed, we simply can't thank Alan (the new manager), Anneta, Marina, Cam & all of the attendant staff enough, for helping to make the weekend of Sat 03 Oct 2020 absolutely magical... we wouldn't change a thing!!! ... from decorating the reception space, to facilitating everything possible, the service from the whole team was exceptional. The food, accommodation & surroundings were excellent... a wonderful experience AND covid-secure too!!! Very much looking forward to our next visit... ... the happy bride & groom ❤❤❤

Booked into this Premier Inn through my work. The room was very much what you would expect from a Premier Inn. The breakfast was super , lots of choice. I chose the full English. My waitress was a lovely lady called Kuni, she couldn’t do any more to help me. Our chef was Margo who I didn’t meet but I would like to do a shout out to her for cooking my breakfast to perfection. I would also like to mention Soph on reception, you were very helpful or should I say google was haha. Anyway staff at this Inn were genuine and very helpful. Many thanks for making my stay a pleasant one. 5 stars from me x

The location is very good. From New Street train station, of course, one exit is directly opposite and the other is not far away, just a half circle. Next to it is Chinatown, a historic building back to back. Breakfast is standard and very good. There was no hot water that night, and it was said that it was for repairs. By the next morning, cold water was expected. When checking out, the front desk will refund 25% of the cost. Overall it is still very satisfactory. The daughter likes the black sister at the front desk very much
