First of all I want to talk about my experience with the hotel prior to our arrival. The Manager, Federica is a perfect model for professionalism and customer service. She and I had frequent contact before we arrived as our trip planning process evolved and she worked with me through numerous date modifications always with the utmost care and professionalism. We were not at all surprised that the rest of the staff was equally professional and customer focused once we arrived. We received excellent information about the area and advice and reservations at the best restaurants in the old town. The staff in the breakfast room were on top of things as well offering custom ordered coffees, delicious hot and cold entrees including local meats, cheeses, and sweets. The property itself is stunning in its beauty both in the courtyard and lobby and seating area. Our room had a king bed and large bathroom and courtyard view. We were very pleased with the plush towels and the large shower which accomodated my 6'3" tall husband. We only stayed three nights but wish we had stayed longer. The location was a great base for visiting some of the other small Umbrian hill towns and the walk around the aquaduct at the top of the old town is not to be missed. My husband and I agree that the best food we ate on our two week trip to Lazio, Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche was in the town of Spoleto. We will defiitely be back and we will stay here again. Federica and her staff are to be commended for their excellent service and maintenance of this beautiful property. Please note the property is hidden behind a beautiful old wall. A GPS will tell you you have arrived but you will not see the property due to the wall. Simply continue your drive into Girabaldi Square and take the immediate right down a very narrow alley along an old stone wall. The hotel is a short ways down the street. You won't miss if you follow this recommendation.

This hotel was booked by our bike tour company. Upon seeing the list they provided, I checked reviews and photos in case I wanted to make any changes. This hotel seemed fine. Upon checking we were taken up the hill and around the corner to an annexed building with 3 rooms I think. No AC, no WiFi and nothing like the rooms posted on their website - dark, dated. The heat came on late at night and I had to open a window. Unfortunately there was a loud group outside that prevented us from sleeping well. Overall a poor experience here. Maybe let your guests know of this possibility beforehand so they can make other arrangements if desired.

We visited the hotel in mid-May. The weather was extremely wet. The room we were allocated was rather cramped and there was nowhere to dry our wet clothes and air our umbrellas. There was no wardrobe, just an open hanging area above the suitcase stand/chest of drawers. The safety deposit box wasn't secured to anyting so in my opinion was a waste. The bathroom was just adequate but the shower cubicle was very cramped. I'm not tall and definitely not overweight and I had great difficulty bending over in the shower to wash myself below the knees. It also took an absolute age for the hot water to find its' way to our room. I wasn't the only complainant about this. The space between the end of the bed and the wall was barely 750cm which I suppose is OK but the small TV was bolted to the wall here and I constantly knocked it as I passed by it. Very annoying. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and had tea making facilities. There was a very large window with a beautiful cherry tree outside which broke up the view of the rooftops below. As we weren't in our room very much and only stayed a few nights it was more of an aggravation than a big deal. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. In a nutshell, a great little hotel that could do with a decent overhaul to get rid of its' problems and very very tired look.

This was my second stay at Hotel Clarici in Spoleto. The location is fantastic - right in the heart of town, and an easy walk to the historic centre,  as well as up to the Rocca fortress. Supermarkets within a 5 min walk. Very comfortable rooms with great views. Excellent breakfast, with an amazing variety of foods, provided each morning to satisfy the fussiest tastes. But, even with all these features, for me the aspect that counted the most were the staff! I cannot praise Francesca and Moreno at Reception highly enough...they both go that extra mile to make guests super comfortable! And smiling Monica who makes the most amazing cappuccinos at breakfast.Thank you,Moreno,Francesca and Monica...for another FABULOUS stay at the Clarici! I'll certainly be back next year.

After driving up scary, narrow alleys you enter this hotel through the Garden of Eden. We were lucky enough to have free parking at the hotel even though we had booked the paid parking. Once parked, we never moved the car. Massimo, the concierge was very helpful and kind. Our room was tiny, but comfortable. It had screens on the windows (JOY), so you could get air without mosquitoes. Our room did not have a view and overlooked a tiny alley. When people were talking in the alley, it sounded as if they were in our room, but everyone quieted down pretty early. The breakfast was lovely with good cappuccino served in lovely china cups. You could carry your coffee out to the garden and be mesmerized by the view. I loved Spoleto and would definitely use this hotel again.

One of the best places I have ever stayed. Period. You can stop looking for a place to stay in Spoleto – I can’t believe you will find anywhere better. The location is perfect. On the edge of town yet a short walk to the Piazza del Mercato and all the major sites (there is so much to see in this town!). Each room in this lovely Bed & Breakfast is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated without overdoing it. It’s modern yet true to the history of the location. The garden was a wonderful respite for breakfast or an afternoon glass of wine, and the views from our room were incredible. This was the patch of peace we were seeking following a whirlwind two days sightseeing in Rome. However, what really makes Palazzo Sant Angelo special are the owners and hosts, Lori and Justin. Their warmth and hospitality truly make this place special. We enjoyed every second we spent talking and getting to know each other. Justin was kind enough to pick us up from the train station and Lori gave us the best recommendations for dinner and helped us with reservations. She provided excellent advice on how to see and experience the town. We spent a few hours just conversing with them during our stay, and probably could have spent many more. I really do feel that we left as friends. The details: our room was well equipped with everything we needed. Comfortable bed, TV (if you wanted it), a strong WiFi connection, heavenly toiletries, plush towels, hair dryer, and a selection of information about the area. We found our room calming and quiet. If there were other guests, we never heard them. I believe there is A/C, but it wasn’t needed as we kept the shutters closed during the day and wide open to the evening air (and the scent of jasmine). Breakfast was delicious and homemade by Lori. Don’t turn down an offer of a cappuccino – so good! I’ve shied away from B&Bs before, especially in the US, as they can sometimes feel stuffy and formal. Not Palazzo Sant Angelo. It’s welcoming yet sophisticated, comfortable yet refined. Truly one of the best and most memorable places we have ever stayed. Our two nights stay here was not enough. We seriously looked into canceling the next leg of our trip to stay here longer and would have done it had they had availability. I really hope life will bring us back here. Thank you, Lori and Justin, for sharing such a special place with us!

Considering the last four places we stayed at in Umbria in the last 60 days, this is the only accommodation we are reviewing (to avoid embarrassment to the others). Although there is a lack of street signage and the internal courtyard could be made more attractive, we loved the warm welcome and care of details from Nazaro, the owner. The bedroom we had was reasonably spacious, with high ceiling and wooden beams; plus by local standards the bathroom, including the shower, was large and comfortable. Heating in the bathroom was efficient and we were able to warm our towels as well - great in winter! The shower contains a fold down seat as well. Breakfast was excellent as Nazaro asked us when we arrived if we preferred savoury or sweet. Reasonably good scrambled eggs were made using eggs laid by the owner's chickens. Homemade apple cake and chocolate tea cake, hot water in a china teapot with a variety of teabags and coffee made in the traditional Moka were all enjoyable. But what also stands out here is the tranquility of the country location (Poreta is about 8 kms from Spoleto and 5 kms from Clitunno lakes/gardens) leading to a relaxing stay. We really loved meeting Antonio, the ginger cat, and we are looking forward to staying here again. An excellent price-quality choice.

A lovely hotel in the peaceful Umbrian countryside. We had a suite, that was the perfect size for us 2. The room was spotlessly clean when we arrived and serviced everyday. Luanna was very helpful in giving us directions to the local cool places. Breakfast was ok, it was the usual muffins, cakes, and croissants with coffee & juices (included in the price). The wifi came in waves, but it work well enough for us. If you are looking for an authentic italian relaxing vacation then I would recommend.
