|5.15km from city centerWe have stayed at Casa Lima for years. The location is great since it is walking distance to our family's house. But this stay was not pleasant. We stayed in 2 room family suite, which we have stayed in this room type before (but received a different room). There were cobwebs everywhere throughout the 2 rooms. I am talking large, draping cobwebs in all the corners, it was dirty. These could have easily been removed with a broom. The room did not feel clean and our youngest was not comfortable. We had arrived late at night and had been communicating this to the hotel all along. It didn't seem like they were ready for us, the owner/manager was grumpy and seemed irritated when we asked for some water. The main 1st room had a double bed and a fold out couch. The bed was comfortable, the couch was not. There was a wardrobe to place your things. The fridge did not work. The adjacent room, had three twin beds, no windows. There was nowhere to put anything, no closet, no wardrobe, not even space for a suitcase. The adjoining door did not close unless you deadbolted it, not too comfy for a family with young kids. The bathoom door in the twin room didn't close at all, it would slide open, and most definitely didn't lock. The TV in that room didn't work either. We did report that the fridge didn't work, but they didn't do anything about it. The courtyard, as always, is amazing. It is like a jungle in the middle of the city with a ton of plants, trees, flowers and colorful rocks. There is a coi pond with a couple turtles and you can feed them if you ask for some food. There is also a large cage with a bunch of birds, which adds to the ambiance. The breakfast is simple, but good. The servers are awesome. I feel like the last 3 stays at this hotel have gone considerably downhill. i also feel like the price was a lot higher than we paid in the past. We will be looking for another go to hotel in the future.

|9.84km from city centerThis hotel rocks! We stayed here the first night of our trip, and were welcomed by the kind staff and some of the FRESHEST and WARMEST TASTIEST free cookies upon check in. By the end of our stay one of our relatives literally hoarded the cookies, asking for 4-5 per day. The pool was very pretty, and the breakfast was so fancy, aesthetic and tasty! The rooms were nice and cool, very clean, and had a great selection of TV channels. On the last night of our trip, we had initially pre-planned to stay at this one hotel in the forrest, but our party decided to leave because of a number of concerning observations. We were all exhausted as it was the end of our trip, and needed somewhere to stay. Immediately everyone started chanting that they wanted to go back to the DoubleTree. We arrived and everyone sighed a relief, and we went to our warm beds with our cookies!

|5.37km from city centerThis is a very nice local hotel. As so many have said, the customer service is top level. They will do all possible to please their guests. My room was small, but fine. Beds are very comfortable, room was clean, and almost everything worked well. Hotel is small, but lovely. I don’t feel there is a need to detail much, as this place is very nice overall. Two problems… In my room, the hot water was virtually nonexistent at the faucet. Which is so strange as it was perfectly fine in the shower. But it meant I was unable to shave. But that’s okay because I was only there 2 nights. The real problem was the internet. And OMG, was it horrible. Almost nonexistent. I actually went out into the public area to try to work, but still couldn’t accomplish anything. I have a business and need good internet. Both my phone and my computer had such a bad signal and were dropping constantly. I had been at the Best Western and then the Marriott before this hotel, and all was perfect. Now I am at the Hilton, and again, perfect. So I don’t know if it was a temporary issue or not, but it made my stay infuriating. I will go back to my previous policy of only staying at hotel chains, because this was not the first time I had internet issues at a local hotel. It has happened probably 40-50% of the time. So no more for me. But most people will love this hotel. And everyone will love the service!

|1.92km from city centerWe stayed for one night after arriving in San Jose. We got a taxi from the airport, which took about half an hour to get to the hotel. The hotel is really big and spacious, the rooms were comfortable, and we particularly enjoyed the lovely pool area outside where we could relax with drinks from the bar.

My only complaint is that I wish I could reserve a specific room - the computer system doesn’t allow it. Otherwise I always have a great experience while I am there- breakfast buffet is excellent, please keep it.

|0.85km from city centerGreat location in the heart of San Jose, within walking distance from all the city’s attractions. As a Hilton member, we were recognised with a great upgrade to a nice and modern room. The daily breakfast was sumptuous with local and western options. The evening happy hour was incredible and the best selection of drinks we’ve ever been to. Would also like to thank several staff who helped us during our stay - Anthony the bellhop, and Carlos + Marcela, severs at the hotel’s restaurant. One suggestion is for the reception counter staff to be more friendly and approachable. The perception we got was they were cold and rushed.

|2.32km from city centerStayed here on a tour of Costa Rica, for a total of three nights on arrival and between our extension. Typical city hotel, very comfy and large rooms with big bathrooms, plenty of toiletries etc. Lovely staff, although not very attentive in the main restaurant! We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast in the main restaurant - all good. Also a great meal in the Japanese restaurant. It was quite cool, they keep the aircon on quite high and the weather was windy and cloudy so turned it off in our room! Nothing much nearby, very convenient for airport but only a supermarket and McDonalds within walking distance. The park was ok for a quick walk, only a few yards away.

|6.73km from city centerWe've been in and out of San Jose plenty, and this was our first time staying in the Residence Inn. What a pleasure! After a 7 hour car ride from Guanacaste, parking was easy peasy, check in was quick and our room was perfect. We chose this location because my youngest son was having a procedure at Advanced Dental and we could walk everywhere. Plenty of food options, some shopping, and lots of outdoor spaces. My mechanic met me at the hotel and took my car for a tune up while we were here because we didn't need it at all. The hotel is well appointed, with a fabulous staff is kind and friendly, always helpful. I was so excited that the computer at breakfast made me a cappuccino, you'd have thought I didn't live through the 90s. Breakfast was delicious - lots of super fresh options from oatmeal to omelettes, croissants to gallo pinto. We are definitely making this our home base for future San Jose trips. Two thumbs up.

|10.13km from city centerWe stayed here for 2 nights. This hotel is about 15 to 20 min from airport. Our hosts went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Their breakfast was fresh and delicious. The restaurants, for evening meals, are about 600 mtr walk. The en suite room was lovely. Big, spotlessly clean, and with every amenity. Air conditioning, wifi, coffee machine, and hair drier. It is positioned overlooking the golf course. With its beautifully manicured plants, it is a peaceful setting. We were very happy with our visit , and will definitely recommend staying here .

|12.01km from city centerEl hotel es normal.

|7.22km from city centerMarriott always get it right with the things that are useful and important. Good location if staying in San Jose..not right in the middle of the hassle & bustle it's 20 mins drive to downtown. It does however have its courtyard of restaurents and the multi plaza across from it so a good location to downtown and the airport. The room itself is modern, clean, has a large TV, coffee machine, good locks on the inside of the door for extra security if you're travelling solo. Hot water, body products, large bed and decent restaurent. Plus if you're working online it has decent WiFi and lots of good spots to set up and get on. Little tip get a room with a balcony facing the back and not overlooking the shops at the front. Nice little view. Breakfast is good with selections of vegetarian and vegan options.

|11.64km from city centerI just came back from a week long trip to Costa Rica and stayed at the Studio Hotel Boutique. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. Outstanding service from the staff, beautiful hotel in a quiet part of Santa Ana, and beautiful art all over the hotel. We felt like we were staying in a museum. The restaurant had great food, and a great breakfast buffet, with a wide variety of choices for everyone. Harold who is in charge of the tours was wonderful. We contacted him before our visit, and he took care of everything for us. We always go with big chain hotels, but the price and the reviews for this hotel encouraged us to take a chance. I’m so glad we did. The price was decent and the hotel was excellent, a real find. I give this hotel 5 stars. I look forward to staying there again, and I recommend this hotel to anyone taking a trip to Costa Rica.

We had no warm water for 2 days in our room, but the staff reacted instantly, tried to fix it and we got a free breakfast and some money back. Clean kitchen, enogh fridge space and a cool sofa space in the living kitchen. In total we had a nice and relaxing stay amd would definitly recommand this hostel.

|1.05km from city centerHotel Balmoral charges you in full on your first day and will not allow for any subsequent changes. I reserved for 10 days and was told by management that they would only issue a voucher credit to be used within the next 30 days. This policy should be stated upfront so people making reservations know all terms. Tourism business is down and they appear desperate for business but their policies prevent you from ever returning again. This establishment appears only willing to provide discounts and incentives solely to the hispanic community.

|2.94km from city centerFirstly if you’re considering staying in this hotel perhaps have a look at its reviews on booking dot com where is has a 9/10 rating from 391 reviews. For some reason it’s listing on TripAdvisor seems to be minimal. We spent a night there as a group of three while transiting through San Jose. PROS - ROOMs/COMMON AREAS - This is more a guesthouse than hotel. The common spaces are particularly large - huge kitchen, large living room with tv and couches, fish tank, resident hedgehog, small workout area, garden, etc. Would be a particularly nice place for someone staying in San Jose for an extended period as it feels like a home not a hotel. Our room also was nice. Comfortable beds. Clean. No air conditioning but San Jose is at such elevation that this doesn’t matter. - LOCATION - There was ampm convenience store only five minutes walk away. Not too far from bus station - short Uber ride. - WIFI - Worked well. - SERVICE - friendly. - SECURITY- suburb felt safe. Metal door at entrance. Room locked. - VALUE - only 43USD for the night which was very reasonable. Was hard to find budget-mid range options in San Jose. CONS - Bathroom situation is a little hectic. There are two showers but they are in the same room with some frosted glass so don’t really offer much privacy. As a result people lock the door to access both and so you can a bit of a line up in the morning.

|0.99km from city centerDear Valued Guests, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share my recent experience at Hotel Cultura Plaza in San Jose, Costa Rica, and to caution those considering a reservation at this establishment. During my stay at the hotel, I encountered a significant issue with the room I was assigned. Unfortunately, some of the rooms at this hotel do not have windows and resemble prison cells rather than comfortable accommodations. Understandably, I refused to accept such a room and immediately contacted Booking.com to seek a resolution. To my disappointment, the hotel displayed a lack of cooperation, even after three hours of mediation with Booking.com. Despite our best efforts, the hotel refused to address the issue adequately, leading to the cancellation of my reservation. Furthermore, the hotel has also declined to refund the payment I made for the booking. Throughout this process, their responses were consistently rude and unhelpful, leaving me frustrated and dissatisfied. In addition to the room issue, I feel it is important to mention that the dining room for breakfast at Hotel Cultura Plaza is extremely small, akin to a small bar with only about four tables. This limited space may make it challenging to find a seat during busy periods, and it can detract from the overall dining experience. Given my disappointing experience and the hotel's uncooperative attitude, I want to urge prospective customers to exercise caution when considering a reservation at Hotel Cultura Plaza. Please be aware of the lack of windows in some rooms, the prison cell-like appearance, and the limited dining space for breakfast. It is my hope that by sharing this message, I can help others make informed decisions and avoid potential frustrations. As consumers, we should be able to expect a certain level of quality and service when choosing accommodations, and unfortunately, Hotel Cultura Plaza fell short of these expectations. Thank you for your attention, and I wish you all pleasant and trouble-free experiences in your future travels. Sincerely,

|2.95km from city centerWe were not able to have a better welcome and goodbye to Costa Rica. We spent the first and last nights of a family trip (two adults and two adolescents) of just over a few weeks across the country. The hotel was very comfortable and comfortable and we were looking for a good hotel for arrival and booked Rincón del Valle. We were fully struck twice: super friendly and efficient staff, continuous improvement facilities, comfortable beds and excellent breakfast (the first breakfast in Costa Rica, typical of the country, could not be more struck). And we could make a little bike and tape to fight jet lag and so many hours of flight. Ideal location, quiet, well communicated, with gastronomic offer close to, the national stadium ... The trip we took you quite for free and in the hotel advised us and helped discover San José and its tips on different destinations and activities We liked the whole journey, but the first impression in a unknown country is important, and there they already won, we began to understand that it means PURE LIFE. We will return to Costa Rica or Central America, and we will certainly sleep and breakfast again in Rincon del Valle. Thank you for everything. Pure life.

|2.2km from city centerWhen you first arrive everything looks good. A nice charming setting, pool area looks nice, grounds are well kept, security 24/7. However once you start to settle in you notice the little things that aren’t quite right. For starters, I never had hot water in my room (512). At best it was warm enough to stand under for the duration of your shower, but other days it was ice cold. I thought it could be because my room was located in the main building with the kitchen, but other guests in the building said they had hot water, so who knows. The shower/water pressure was also horrible. The water sprayed half out the side of the shower head, leaving little to come out of the shower head. The suites come with 2 bedrooms, living room with cable tv and a full kitchen with table and chairs. The beds were fine, and there was storage to put your things away if you wished. However the safe did not work and there were no dishes or cookware in the full kitchens. I heard you have to ask the front desk but I never tried. The bar only opened on Thurs-Sunday and the pool and hot tub closed at 10pm. Breakfast was included and it was from 6-10am every morning I believe. The selection was limited but there was a custom omelette station I heard was really good. Security was great and all the staff was very friendly. Overall it was a good experience. Other than some updates, nothing to complain about.

|12.04km from city centerMy coworker and I stayed here for three nights for a work trip. The property is lush and looks like you are transported a couple hundred years ago but resort is only 35 years old (from Marriott employee Fernando who gives tours of the property). There are two pools and a hot tub surrounded by so much lush vegetation. My initial room was 528 which is a handicap room but was quickly switched to 631 which has a walk-in shower with a glass door. The room had a modern feel with artwork of coffee beans. There was plenty of space at the desk as well as couch area. The breakfast was delicious and the servers were wonderful. Breakfast even starts at 6am, great for work trip. There is also a shuttle that runs on a schedule (see attached photo).

|2.14km from city centerI spent three nights at the Costa Rica Tennis Club Hotel and hated to leave. Based on some of the reviews, I was hesitant to book but because it has a 25m pool I decided to give it a chance, and booked for one night. The staff was friendly, the room was updated, and clean, and the sports facilities were fantastic so I booked for two more nights. I am a swimmer and loved having an 8 lane competition pool available for daily training. I also used the gym which had a great variety of machines and weights. There were courts for every type of racquet sport, a basketball court, pong ponf, a bowling alley, a second pool, steam room and sauna, massage therapists, a pro shop; and more! There also is a nice sports bar where the complimentary breakfast is served. If b be you take it out in the patio you can watch folks running. Online skating, cycling and horseback riding. To top it off, the price was under $60 per night. I would think a day pass to a club like this would be around $30+ so this is a great deal. If/when I return to San Jose I definitely will plan on seating here.
