4.05km from Unicorn RestaurantYouthful forays to Peekers” nightclub punctuated our social life back in the day. In its new incarnation, Haddington House is a joy to visit, offering comfortable, clean bedrooms with well stocked bathrooms - & good coffee accompanied by indulgent treats, to enjoy. We stayed the two weekends of the home rugby international rugby games, so views of the rough seas & very high tides provided another element to our outlook from our lovely bedrooms. Accommodation - tick! We were greeted on our second week at a very early arrival, having flown ( been blown across!) from Leeds that morning. Just after 9am, the delightful receptionist was able to let us have our room. Our flight had been at 6:30am so being able to have a rest prior to the day’s excitement really enhanced our enjoyment of the weekend. She remained sunny & helpful throughout the weekend and we especially loved her gentle humour & consideration. All staff were welcoming & friendly, offering helpful suggestions & making us feel at home. Hotel staff, tick! Then, we come to their Italian styles restaurant, “Olivetto”. This is a must! It had been recommended to us for some time, but we had been slow to try somewhere new. We truly loved it! So much so, we booked it again on our second week, where our first very favourable visit was further enhanced by a newly created dessert being trialled for their new menu. It - was- sensational! The staff are attentive without being intrusive, humorous, the service is swift, the views are glorious & their food is excellent & the options are to my taste. I must encourage you to try it out. I would find it hard to fault. We also enjoyed breakfast there on our second weekend, sitting at a window, watching the storm gathering strength on Dun Laoghaire harbour & the sun still glowing down. Idyllic! Restaurant, tick! Location-wise, it is superbly situated for access to the Dart, busses, walking routes - cycles too are available to use to visit the many local beauty sights surrounding Dalkey, Killiney, eateries in Glasthule & Sandycove. Tick again. Haddington House felt like a welcome to a friend’s beautifully comfortable & superbly situated home. I recommend you visit & stay to enjoy what it offers. We will be back.
