This is a lovely place to stay and highly recommended it. The apartment was large and spacious with good cooking facilities and a lovely dining area. The bathroom is large and modern, and the water pressure for the shower is fantastic. Plenty of towels are available. The bedrooms are large with a good amount of wardrobe and drawer space. There are plenty of mirrors in the apartment which, when there are a few of you getting ready, is definitely a plus! The pub itself is lovely and traditional. There are some lovely original features which Dan told us about which were really interesting. He has very extensive knowledge of the building and its history and is really worth having a listen to him. The location is excellent. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre and just a 2 minute walk from the river. There is parking available on site for no extra cost which is extremely handy for a City like York. Breakfast is available for an extra cost and it is excellent. Evening meals are also available (most evenings) and I highly recommend that you eat here at least one night because the food is excellent. It is well cooked, well presented and the choice is fantastic. There is plenty of food served for both breakfast and evening meals and are all available at a reasonable price. My compliments to the chefs. Finally, all other staff at the pub were very attentive and very friendly. All in all, great location, great value, great amenities, great food, great host and great staff. Absolutely recommend for your stay in York

From the minute I arrived the staff were extremely polite, professional and showed a genuine desire to help. The bedrooms are of a very high standard with everything you could possibly need. The bed was extremely comfortable (to the stage that I struggled to get up the following morning). The food in the restaurant was exceptional. It is rare to find a hotel that can balance between excellent service in a relaxed yet informal setting. If you are travelling on business or pleasure the York Pavilion hotel is a must. Congratulations to all the staff you are all doing a truly fabulous job.

The hotel facilities are very convenient, especially for the disabled! The bed in the hotel is very comfortable. I booked a big bed room. The decoration design style of the room is a bit industrial, but very warm. The dinner at the hotel is delicious. There are also several restaurants along the road of the hotel that are said to be highly rated, with almost no negative reviews. One of them is a Japanese restaurant, and there is a grill house which specializes in steaks and various meats. But I only went to a Japanese restaurant. It was a pity that I didn't get the grill because I had to make a reservation.

I stayed at the Astor York the past three nights. The hostel itself is a great base to explore the stunning city, its about a ten minuit walk to a few eaterys and then another ten minutes to the centre/the Shambles. The hostel very welcoming, David on reception was very friendly and informative, all the staff are super friendly, kind and helpful. Coffee was free in the morning, that was a great help as I need coffee early in the morning, I had read it was a £1 donation for breakfast but was informed that was other Astor York Hostels not theirs, breakfast was put out but that seemed to be pre-booked, I am unsure of that arrangement. I stayed in the 4 bed female dorm, one female was a long term guest, she was very friendly on arrival and during my stay, I had an issue with three other guests staying in the dorm, two girls putting their personal belongings on my bed, including a face mask, I was informed of this whilst I was out and I also came back into the room and saw the girl above me had put belongings on my bed, I was also informed they had sat on my bed, they had been told not to do it by the long term lady staying at the dorm but continued to do it. My third evening stay a lady checked out into the room past midnight, very distrubtive, washing laundry in the on suite shower room and hanging it on the end of my bed, it was very late at night for that, I had to leave very early for a nine hour trip, to say the least I was exhausted. Overall the hostel is great, very clean and warm, I would stay here again.

In May 2022, I spent 3 days in York as a treat for my birthday. This trip was one of many solo-travels that I had planned for the year and when planning this trip and looking on Booking.com I found this hotel to be the best of the bunch on money and closeness to the town. The hotel itself was part of a pub/restaurant but my room was separate from the building in a sense as it was outside and up the stairs. The pub was incredible, the atmosphere and theme was just what I was looking for and I absolutely loved the history behind the building. The room, just as expected, fit well with the theme with vintage inspired decor and furniture, a beautiful and home-away-from-home feel to it. The room was clean, comfortable and just what I wanted for my first trip to York and only second trip travelling solo. The hotel was only a few minutes walk to the town centre and The Shambles, which was just what I wanted and it was so great that during a busy day that I could nip back to my room to drop off bags and/or freshen up before heading back out. It really is a brilliant location for anyone visiting York. The food, which I only had on one occasion as there was so much choice in York, was incredible and highly recommend even if you aren't staying, to pop in for dinner. You will not be disappointed at all! All around fantastic hotel, with a great location, food, price and friendly and helpful staff. Cannot wait to stay again, thank you

A lovely hotel, very clean, good quality furniture, though a little dated. Rooms rather small but nicely decorated. Bed comfy but a bit high, good quality bedding. No lift, which was a bit of a problem as my mobility is limited, and the first floor bedrooms were up 2 small flights of stairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful, They kindly changed our first room as it had a bath, which I couldn't get in to, for a room with a walk in shower. The lounge and bar area was pleasant and comfortable, although a little cool. We didn't eat there as the restaurant was fully booked, so can't comment on food or dining area. It's out of the town centre but only took about 15 minutes to walk, probably less for a younger, fitter person. All in all a very nice hotel.

We booked The Hotel du Vin because it was dog friendly and could provide a room with a bath. I have visited the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham many times and was hopeful the York Hotel du Vin would be good. When we arrived there was a dog bed and two bowls in our room. We had brought Lily's cage but it was not needed. There were several bins outside for poo bag disposal. When they said they were dog friendly they meant it. The hotel is situated a short walk from York centre. The bed was comfortable. The food was good. Staff were helpful and the hotel was well presented. I would return if I ever needed a hotel in York with Lily in tow.

The Fort is in the best location for seeing the whole of York. It was clean, welcoming, had fab little touches in the room. Rooms were spacious and well laid out. No air conditioning but as one day was particularly hot, when we returned a large fan had been placed in the room. No brewing up facilities in the room but a fabulous kitchenette on the 1st floor with kettle microwave mini fridge with various types of milk in and a large variety of hot drinks to make. The staff at Kennedys bar next door could not have been more helpful or friendly. The only downside was one of our rooms was at the front over where Manahatta nightclub next door was so the noise was loud until early hours. We had already realised this when we booked though and the Fort provided free earplugs in each room and a bowl of them in the kitchenette which we thought was going above and beyond.

I'm giving a '5' rating because I think the owner and staff do as well as they can with this place, but there are some issues that I don't see any of the other reviews mention (or at least as far as I read), so I want to highlight those as well. The positives: Location is great for walking into the main area of York even if it is just a bit on the outskirts. Breakfast was fine and plentiful, though I have no idea what a good 'full English breakfast' is from a bad one. The sausage definitely didn't taste like American sausage, but I assume it isn't supposed to. But there are other breakfast options as well. The dining area is very nice. The owner (or whom I assume is the owner) is just as pleasant and helpful as can be. She helped us navigate our way around town and highlighted the places to visit. The not-as-positives: We had trouble finding the 'shortcut' to walk it from the train station. You'll probably want to use your phone for directions, but if they provided a map rather than text directions, it would be helpful Being a house, there are no elevators. We were pleasantly offered help with our luggage, but be warned that it does have to be carried up steps if you are in a room on other than the ground floor. As for our room itself, it was small, and wasn't easy to navigate around in with two suitcases. The bathroom shower would not fit a large person. Fortunately, we are both on the slimmer side, but it was even tight for us. The noise from traffic was very apparent, as was noise from other guests. We literally heard another guest snoring in an adjoining room. So essentially, the place isn't 'perfect', but I think it's a good value and deserves to be considered. We're likely to never find ourselves in York again since we don't travel that often (but it's well worth a visit), and frankly, if we did, we'd probably research other accommodations as well, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from using Apple House.

A very English-style hotel, a certain distance from the city center, it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the city center. The interior of the hotel is very old, there is no elevator, but it feels like the old British house. The boss is very enthusiastic and free. Breakfast for us. I said that the kettle was a bit dirty and the boss immediately changed to a new kettle. It seems that there are very few Chinese guests, and breakfast is mostly foreign tourists.

We booked a room for two nights through Agoda. Agoda messed up and cancelled our booking. The booking was reinstated but Jason the Guest House owner was forced to change our room to one on the top floor. He explained this was the only one available now and that it was up lots of stairs. We understood his situation. We were welcomed nicely by Jason and our room was up stairs and was compact but it was clean and pretty comfy. The shower wasn't very powerful and could do with replacing. We only paid £139 for two nights including a lovely cooked breakfast so we did get a great deal. Location was fab - just ten minutes walk from centre of town and all the attractions. The Castle Hotel next door was lovely for dinner. Would recommend this place but dont book through Agoda, ask for a room on a lower floor and make sure your shower is powerful enough. Lovely breakfast and location and tea/coffee facilities in room.

Family hotel, the room is very spacious, the facilities are new, the breakfast is good. There was a parking space on the roadside, and the proprietress stopped in the small courtyard of the hotel and received the parking fee the next day. It is estimated that she will not receive parking fees when she stops at the roadside. The railroad is outside the window, but it is not very noisy, and people who are not sensitive should have no influence. No elevator, big box, 3rd floor, need arm strength.

The size of the room is adequate, with two inside and out on the top floor. It is a hotel similar to the one common in foreign countries, with a restaurant downstairs and guest rooms upstairs. The scale is not large, so it is estimated that there are seven or eight rooms. The hotel reached the city wall, which was less than ten minutes. The hotel has a special parking lot, and the service attitude of the owner is also very good. Breakfast is in the form of an English-style single order, and the quality and service are OK. Anyway, the English breakfast is almost the same.
