This is not a hotel but a house with several rooms for hire. First you check in at another hotel close by. You get good information about this by mail a day in advance. The staff was very friendly and let me leave my baggage there because of my early arrival. At 3 pm I got my key and at first the hotel was slightly hard to find but it's the first house on the corner of the square. It has a sign saying LOT Hotel. A guy at the restaurant with the same door showed me which key to use for the front door when it was closed. The stairs was pretty steep and I wouldn't be happy if I had heavy luggage, but this time I was lucky. The room (205) has its charm and especially compared to most business hotels I usually visit. The room was clean but the toilet lacked toilet paper. Lucky me I managed to find some staff before they left. The bathroom is very cramped but functional. No shower curtain. No AC - windows need to be open. If you're over 190 cm there's a big risk you'll hit your head. Overall a fairly nice room at a decent price. I understand many people have different views on what's acceptable, but I like the charm. Located at the very center of the city. Bars and festival might be a problem to light sleepers but the room itself gave me peace.

Great place in the center of Leiden. Really enjoy the hotel room and I would recommend it to others. A pleasant addition would be some more power outlets although this was not a big problem. Thank you Best Western for this awesome stay.

Situated near the old town gate with a carpark just across the road, the hotel is then just a short stroll to the main part of the city. The staff (given all the COVID restrictions) were very pleasant and made the check-in process welcoming and professional. The rooms are a good size and we managed to take advantage of a connecting room for kids. They are well laid out with everything you could want for a comfortable stay (except for air conditioning). One of the best parts of the stay was the breakfast. A large selection of fruits, cereals and hot food that caters for everyone. Most enjoyable!

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights in a twin room whilst looking around the university. Ok, it’s not 5 star but then your not paying 5 star rates either. What this hotel offers is an excellent location, directly across the road from both the railway and bus stations and 10min’s walk to the city center. Our room was comfortable and very clean. Sadly no fridge however when I asked the lovely reception ladies for a kettle, no problem at all. In fact, front of desk were extremely helpful in advising on places to eat and the city in general. Thank you.... We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel but went to the station which has countless places including a well know American chain. Next door to the hotel there is a supermarket should you want/need any snacks

The welcome is very cordial even if it is still in the early morning hours and guests are enjoying their breakfast. Although the room was not ready, I already received a key. On my return in the evening I found my suitcase neatly in the wardrobe. The hotel is located in a national monument. this means that you come across many old style elements. The staircase that leads to the rooms is pretty steep. this reminded me that perhaps Willem van Oranje once walked here. Once on top of the small landing is the access to the room. This is clean and equipped with all modern conveniences: a large comfortable bed, two chairs facing the TV, a small functional desk and finally a kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. The windows are not of double glazing (national monument). finally you get a great breakfast. I would definitely class this as a gem.

Nice Hotel, it was a very pleasant stay. We got a very comfortable family room (it was exactly as in the picture on the booking site!), I can suggest it without hesitation. For a family with young children that wants to spent some days in Holland, visiting different places it a very good option. It is very close to the Central Station, and to the Leiden midtown, so you can plan either to stay in Leiden, or to move to other towns by train or by bus. For example, Amsterdam and Delpht can be reached by train in half an hour. We also got a very good rate, but without breakfast, that actually appears to be quite expensive.

We recently spent a night here in a 'suite'. Friendly welcome at the reception. The room at first glance nicely decorated. But, after a closer look, some furniture looks cheap. Scratched surfaces of the bedside tables for example. Great bed. Spacious bathroom with a fantastic bath. No real mini-bar, but good coffee and tea facilities. The room was also clean. Window overlooked a flat roof and the walls of other buildings. Had dinner in the restaurant in the evening. Nice food and good service. The breakfast was fine. Okay arranged and no crowds. Room service only free of charge between 22:00 - 23:00. Outside these times it costs € 7.50 extra. A missed opportunity if you ask me. The tip to offer room service free of charge in any case during the Corona pandemic. Unfortunately I did not sleep well. Outside was a generator (part of construction works around the hotel) that made a lot of noise. The location of the hotel is good. Parking is available at the hotel at a favorable rate. Would we come here again? Yes, maybe. Would I choose the suite again? No. I missed the 'more luxurious' feeling here. Unfortunately.

I usually like to start with something positive, so let me mention the breakfast. There was a good choice, although replenishing could have been better. The bed was also very comfortable and the room spacious. Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives. The young lady on reception (Iris) was rather snooty and could do with a lesson in customer care. She made us feel very unwelcome and if I could have, I would have left there and then. We had a reservation for a double room and suit. Unfortunately, the suit was not ready on arrival. It should have been ready within 15 minutes, however, it took longer. I asked if we could check out a little later to compensate and this was granted. The manager offered a drink in the bar too. Much appreciated. There was no handsoap in both rooms and the phone was not working in the suit. Quality of the towels was not 4 star worthy. One of the pillows was so lumpy that I asked reception for a different pillow. A young lady brought a different pillow and hadsoap. The pillow was slightly better, but the pillowcase was marked and looked dirty. There are no pillow protectors on the pillows either. Some of the furniture was damaged. Ceiling pannels in the bathroom had suffered water damage. Guests can only swim, wearing bathing clothes, in the pool from 7 till 9.30 a.m. which meant that the pool was a little crowded. Young lady on reception at check-out was friendly. All in all, we didn't enjoy our stay and would choose a different hotel if in Leiden.

The warm welcome I received and support through out my stay added that extra factor to my whole experience at the hotel. The personal touch allowed me to get a real feel about the place and its people, the pulse of Leiden. From airport pick ups and drop offs to shuttling me around Leiden, I had a very personalised taxi service. When I had mishaps with charging my phone, I spent quite a bit of time with a member of staff who finally managed to sort the problem! I had dropped my wooly hat at a restaurant and again, the staff very kindly picked it up for me. The boat tour around Leiden offered by the hotel was absolutely brilliant! I would recommend this place without hesitation.

Just finished a four-night stay while attending a scientific conference. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. Everything from start to finish was exceptional. The location is a combination of historic canal houses that the owners have creatively preserved while providing beautiful modernisation. I felt like a “local” each time I stepped out onto the street and walked along the quiet and beautiful canal to the many nearby shops and restaurants. Everyone there was incredibly welcoming. Note that with historic preservation if your room / suite is on an upper level you will be climbing levels of beautifully restored but traditional circular wooden stairs - not riding up on a glass-enclosed elevator with piped in music playing. This is part of the ambiance that gives the place it’s historic character but something to keep in mind when reserving. In my case, being in the “senior citizen” category but 1K and moving past 2,000,000 lifetime miles with United I wouldn’t hesitate to book the 2nd floor suite I had again and this would be the first place I book to stay on a return Leiden visit. Just a wonderful place to stay in a beautiful city. That’s it.

I made the mistake of taking this hotel because of the price but really it's a terrible choice for someone who does not have a car (the hotel being located on the outer edge of Leiden) and so it is a 30-minute walk to get into the town area. It is ludicrous that a Northern European hotel in 2019 should have such terrible wifi coverage. In order to get some work done, I was forced to use the 4G roaming on my mobile due to the weak or non-existent Wifi in the hotel and that surely raises the cost of my stay to the same level as a better hotel in the city center. I also noticed that the hotel staff would come and enter the room in mid-day, not the cleaning staff but the front desk people would knock on the door and when I did not respond, they still came in to the room... and then ask "How is your room?"... but what is the point of coming in to ask that if I don't respond to the initial knock? Do they come and check everybody's room multiple times a day? Very weird and suspicious. Given the bad location, you would think that there would be bicycles available for guest use or rent, but none was offered when I asked about transport alternatives to get to town. There are lots of good bike lanes from the hotel to town but that is useless to hotel guests if they aren't offered a bike. The staff were friendly and told me that I was getting a "quiet" room but that first night was interrupted by some loud Eastern European drunkards in the nearby rooms at 2am. My room did not include breakfast, but when it was offered to me on check-in I would have considered it but the price (EUR 14!) was also crazy!!

Stayed 1 night and it was a nice stay. The room was spacious and clean. Check-in was efficient and staff friendly. Extra corona measures were in place. I would highly recommed this hotel if you want to be close to the old town but not in it. Breakfast was nice and one could sit outsite at the water front (Old Rhine). There is plenty of free parking, We also had dinner in the hotel and were were surprised that it did not at all meet the standards of a Van der Valk hotel (see my review of the restaurant - De Haagsche Schouw)
