|0.25km from city centerWe booked to stay at the Herculaneum Hotel for 4 nights but ended up staying for 2. Let’s start with the positives - the hotel is situated literally opposite the entrance to the site of Herculaneum which was perfect for the access. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and were able to help us and answer questions. The public spaces were also very well kept and the terrace was the best part about the hotel, it was a shame it was barely used when we were there but it would be great if they set up breakfast here instead of the indoor room. The not so greats - the room we booked was not the room we got. When we booked the room I was sent a photo of what to expect and the description to match but it certainly did not look anything like it.. my partner really wasn’t happy as our room was very basic and had marks all on the walls and what looked like a urine stain. To their credit, the staff quickly moved us, however the next room was not much of an improvement. Both rooms had no views and I was really hoping to be able to have a view over the ruins. We were also unable to get breakfast, which was included, for both days we were there as there simply wasn’t room in the restaurant and we wanted to make the most of our days out so we just grabbed breakfast at the cafe on the corner, next door to the hotel - which is a delightful cafe - the staff there are fantastic too. Ercolano, the town itself was what really let us down and although this is not a reflection on the hotel itself, it somewhat made our experience worse as we just did not feel safe in the town. We moved on to Sorrento where it was a much friendlier place to be. If I could go back in time and rebook the whole holiday I would stay at the Herculaneum Hotel again but just for one night as you can spend a day at Herculaneum, stay and then head down the coast.

|1.73km from city centerLooking to do some sight-seeing in southern Italy near Napoli? Hotel Puntaquattroventi fit the bill perfectly. We were two families of four. We have four boys between us (ages 8 - 15). We were traveling to Napoli & to Pompeii so Ercolano was perfectly positioned in-between the two. Here are the highlights: - The Parking: Included and very accessible. I don’t recall there being a valet but it was steps from the front door in a gated lot. If you have a car, you just pull right in on arrival. - The Rooms: For a family of four, it was good because we could get two queen sized beds and a large bathroom with a balcony overlooking the ocean. One thing to note here: the rooms, as is the entire hotel, were a bit dated. I’d describe it as a very well kept 1980s Miami vibe. Ultimately, every thing was clean and comfortable. - The Pools: There are two salt water pools (one indoor and one out). The indoor pool is olympic sized. Also note the the facilities are used by the community. I think there is a local swim team that practices there but it was never a problem. It sort of added to the atmosphere because the place was all inclusive but you were still around locals. My kids are swimmers and it kept them amused our entire stay. - The Beach: The beach was steps from the outdoor pool. You have to walk down some stair, but it is passable. The beach is a quintessential Naopolitan beach. It’s rocky but they had ample lounge chairs and umbrellas. They even had a covered lanai to get out of the sun. (Both the pool and the beach are almost a must if you are doing a walking tour of Pompeii in July.) - The Food: The breakfast was a buffet and included in our room fee. It was both savory & sweet with pastry & cured meats. Fantastic. The restaurant was great for dinner. All dining areas are on outdoor balconies and have amazing waterfront views. There is also a full service snack bar by the pool that is reasonably priced. Truthfully, we stayed there for four nights and barely eat off the grounds during that time. - The Staff: Knowledgable & courteous (i.e. - They suffered through my very poor Italian but also spoke English when needed : ) - The Price: Considering all it included, it was very reasonable. Ultimately, I decided to write this review months later because I keep thinking back to how amazing it was. I’ve been to Italy several times both alone & to visit my Italian family. This was the perfect place to build in some R & R on a trip that was very busy. I would definitely go there again.

|2.52km from city centerWe stayed here for 9 nights and picked the hotel as we thought it would be quieter outside of Naples city centre. The staff were incredible and could not do enough to help. A big thanks to Francesco and the reception team who were especially helpful organising trips, recommending restaurants and sorting out any problems. The shuttle bus to Ercolano station was very useful as the hotel was not central to any towns, you just have to make sure you book your place. Direct trains from Ercolano to Naples, Sorrento and along the coast made it easy to get around without a car. You could walk to San Georgio a Cremano town/station which was about 20 mins from the hotel, useful if you missed the shuttle. The hotel has pretty gardens but, when we were there there was about 3 weddings a day so it could be quite noisy, however none went late into the evening. We hoped the hotel would we well situated for walking but it was not, it is in the middle of a suburban area. The bar area was right outside one of the wedding rooms so you couldn't sit and have a quiet drink as it was too noisy. We booked a junior suite for the 2 of us, the website mentioned a sitting area but when we got there found we had a double room with adjoining single room which was not much good for us. We spoke to reception and they organised to get us 2 comfortable chairs instead of the single bed. This was great especially as the first couple of days of our stay were rainy so we could not sit on the terrace. We ate in the Line restaurant twice, however as we don't eat fish there was a very limited choice on the menu. A lot of the restaurants nearby had closed so if you don't have a car there is not a lot of choice. Reception booked us into De Vito, an excellent local restaurant which was lovely, they even picked us up and dropped us back after our meal, delicious simple Italian food and very good value, we went 3 times during our stay. In summary, we had a good stay, helpful staff and a good base to explore the area using the hotel shuttle to the station and easy to get around using the trains.

Ercolano
|0.49km from city centerOur taxi driver told us that this hotel was the best value in Ercolano. It is owned by a family. It does need some TLC as the paint work is a bit old. The rooms are very big and comfortable. It was walking distance from the Herculaneum Ruins and the MAV (Virtual Archaeological Museum). We also walked to the bus who took us to Mount Vesuvius. The villa was built in 1730. Our room was on the street side and it was a bit noisy however you can close the shutters (which we did not do). The staff was very friendly and the restaurant has really good food. It is better to get to the hotel by taxi as it was not easy to walk from the station with suitcases.
