Stayed here during the world cup and so it was ridiculously over priced for what it was. I think- the normal rate is more like £30 at which point you'd be more accepting of what you were getting. Rooms were basic, small but clean and functional. Breakfast was reasonable for an Ibis. Its probably about a 10 min walk to get onto the top of the main street. Staff were a bit of a mix, generally fine but one of the people working behind the front desk was incredibly difficult to deal with at times. Maybe he was stressed out by how busy they were. Most ridiculous thing was being accused of stealing one of their tiny thin towels. Not only would I never do it, but you'd have thought they might not throwing these accusations around when they were charging 7 times their normal rate!

The hotel is located in the city center on Maxim Gorky Street within walking distance of the pedestrian Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street with a large number of cafes and restaurants. My room was large in size with an armchair and floor lamp, and a large comfortable work area with power outlets and a TV. There was a minibar in the room, on request they bring an ironing board with an iron. The bathroom has a shower cubicle and a complete set of cosmetic accessories. A separate story deserves a spa zone, which is free for hotel guests. A bathrobe and towels are issued here, there is a phytobar where you can pour black tea with thyme or green tea with mint for free, and also have jam. There is a large round hot tub, a sauna, a small Russian bathhouse, and a very hot hammam with a large table. There is also a relaxation room with a salt insert on the wall and a heated stone bed. There is a small pool in which you can do 4-5 strokes, as well as a vertical waterfall, and a cabin with a rain shower. Overall excellent value for money. Was not at breakfast, the cost of breakfast is 900 rubles.

Arrived early (7:00) and was kindly offered my room for an extra 650 rubles. Happy to pay that - however oin perusing my bill, I was charged more than what was agreed, Not much mind but it was more. I was offered breakfast for an extra 450 rub which I declined. Breakfast in this hotel is pretty sparse. The hotel is quiet - very quiet. I hardly saw anyone else in the days I was here. Its a breakfast area surrounded by rooms. Coffee is available all day (depending on the machines good humour) and tasty biscuits are usually to be found. Hot milk, honey and cakes are put out at 10pm which is a nice touch. The room itself is adequate ... however there are issues with the plumbing. On using shower or flushing the toilet - there is a deafening sound for the duration - and when that stops, there is a dreadful smell of sewerage for approx 5 minutes. Not nice. I also query security at the hotel. Door to the hotel and door at the bottom of the stairs to the street are open at all times. The reception was only manned when I arrived and when I left (and on that point, I hadnt been registered properly which caused delay). There may be cctv, true. But I was able to stroll into the hotel at 10, 11pm and not encounter any staff member at all. - bit odd. So, would I stay here again, though its clean, quiet and convenient - it has to be a no, sorry.

We stayed at Hotel Joy for 2 nights during the World Cup in June 2018, and were very impressed by this small hotel. This was probably the busiest and most stressful period that the city has seen, and yet the hotel staff were very welcoming and kind to all of their guests. We arrived very early in the morning and despite being at full capacity the night before, the hotel staff very quickly turned over a room for us as soon as one was free so that we were able to check in early - much appreciated after our overnight train to Nizhny. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and ours had a kettle, microwave and fridge. We slept very well - comfy beds, very little street noise and an excellent air conditioning unit. Breakfast, served in our room and pre-ordered the night before, was delicious with plenty of options for every preference. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and the location was absolutely perfect - I don't think we could have found a better location in the Old Town! Only slight drawback was a complicated wifi system that isn't very friendly for foreigners (you need to receive a code by text to enable the hotel's wifi and the code never arrived to our non-Russian mobile phones), but the hotel staff helped us to work this out. We would be very happy to stay here again.

On my trip to Nizhny I was pleased with the overall quality of the Sheraton. The hotel is a relatively new property that has been designed to reflect its historic environment. The staff work hard to meet the requests of the guests. The rooms are of good quality and creative. The gym is well equipped and open 24 hours per day. The breakfast is classy with a nice selection of offerings. Perhaps my one suggestion for the hotel would be to provide a stronger selection of hot food items at night in the Sheraton Club. The actual Club is very nice but also very limited in the hot food items. Overall, a sold 5 star property. I will come again.

Went to Nizhny Novogord on a work trip, but found the Hampton both very affordable and very convenient. The staff speaks excellent English and the amenities alone are worth the stay. I had some trepidation going to Russia for the first time, believing all I had seen on the news and in movies. Do not believe what you have seen. The Russian people are wonderful. I found them to be educated (beyond US citizens), friendly, and very helpful. The customer service at this hotel is top-notch. I cannot say enough good things about the Hampton by Hilton in Nizhny Novgorod. It is a short walk from the Volga River promenade and a bit of a walk to the city center, but totally worth it. There are enough restaurants nearby to make this a desirable location. Breakfast is incredible. There is a wide assortment of choices, and they change daily. The front desk staff is very accommodating and the rest of the staff is the same. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and I cannot wait for my next stay. The hotel was built for the World Cup in 2018, so it is very modern. The air conditioning works just fine. Excellent, excellent, excellent hotel with superb staff.

We stayed at Marins Park in Yekaterinburg and it was much better. This one had a nice big room and clean beds and towels but the maid didn’t take our laundry and then when we took it to reception later that day they said it was too late so we missed out. Our room was “cleaned” although they don’t make the beds and we were only left with two towels, no new hand towels or foot towels. The drink dispenser in the foyer was empty and the coffee shop was not staffed. Breakfast was good. There is a strip club next to the restaurant which is odd. Ok for the price but not overly impressed with promised service.

This hotel has a lot to recommend it and a few not so good points. It is very modern in terms of the standard of the rooms and facilities, perhaps with the exception of the restaurant. There is a bar, an ATM and the rooms have every amenity, including an espresso machine and cable TV. Everything is spotless, plumbing and electricity is good and our room came with a kitchenette which we did not plan on or use. The staff are first class, smile often and many speak English. For a Russian hotel, it is of a high standard. The location is perfect for seeing the sights. It is a 7 min walk to the Main Street and a tramway runs past the front door. They seem to do a good trade in conferences (one for each weekday we stayed) On the downside, a bunch of small issues marred the stay a little. We extended for one night and the cost went up. The bar fridge was empty, although the supply of free bottled water was ample. The view from the window was appalling- a derelict factory. If you are fortunate enough to get a forward facing room, the courtyard is pretty. We had only one pillow per guest. The restaurant features chairs that are too low for the average guest, making dining awkward. There are no proper napkins and you must ask for salad or vegetables with the main course. The price for our two course meal was hefty, but the food was superb (food and drinks $140 for two). The district is of great historical interest as is the hotel itself, and I recommend anyone looking for a quiet stay to check the hotel out.

The Azimut Hotel is built to maximize the sweeping views out across the Volga River not for convenience in getting to any place within the city that might be on your itinerary. On arrival after a morning train journey my room was not yet available so I tried to get lunch in the lobby cafe to fill in some of the time. After sitting for about 10 minutes with a menu but no service I left and walked the long distance into the main pedestrian street (about 25 minutes walk) and ate there instead. My visit didn't continue too well either when I discovered that my very small standard room on the second floor with a view only of the tree very close to the window did not have a safe and there was no safe available at reception either. After a bit of discussion I agreed to pay a small amount extra per night for a deluxe room. As it turned out that was a bargain. The room I was given was on the 5th floor with a great river view. It was also at least 3 times as big as the standard room and came with huge bed, kettle, fridge, bottled water and a safe. The bathroom was also much larger and very well set out although the shower was over a very deep bath tub which I struggled a bit getting in and out of. The wifi worked well - it was reasonably fast and stable. Breakfast had good choices and was kept well stocked. One of the most positive aspects of the hotel for me were the helpful, English-speaking reception and bar staff. On reflection I would probably choose to stay elsewhere if ever back in Nizhny Novgorod because of the inconvenience of where the hotel was situated in relation to other parts of the city but if you have transport then the Azimut is a reasonable choice.
