We arrived without reservation with the intention to stay here not more than couple of night. We ended up staying six. The location - right on the beach, the staff - so sweet and helpful, the rooms - clean and spacious were so perfect we couldn't leave. We stayed here during the Nyepi festivities. The owner offered us traditional Balinese outfits so we can join the Ogoh-Ogoh parade and all the ceremonies more as a part of the locals rather than simply tourists. I highly recommend and will return during next visit to Amed.

Situated on the beach in Ahmed with very little around except a few other guest houses, a massage place, some warungs and a few dive shops Ahmed is certainly the place to come to get away from it all. Oliver and his team are friendly and will go out of their way to look after you. As a wheelchair user I found their facilities excellent and would not hesitate to recommend Bila to other wheelchair users. They could use a couple of minor upgrades to make things even more accessible but on the whole it’s very good.

Volcano Beach Bungalows refers to two beachside units, one of which - obviously the better one - looks directly on the beautiful Bali Sea. The owner, Sony, has his other budget holiday units (Sony Homestay) about 20 m or so behind VBB. First off, for all the fastidious ones out there, this is not a five-star hotel. • There is no hot water. • The next-door saltworks starting their pumping of seawater at the crack of dawn (only for about 20 minutes) may disrupt your sleep, especially if the previous night you had been partying excessively. • Like elsewhere in Indonesia, there’s a fair share of freely roaming mongrel dogs. They may bark suddenly in the middle of the night. • The inclusive breakfast is at best average. Now the positive points of VBB. Do you think in Hawaii, Okinawa, the’re going to get a beachside unit for $25 per night? Right in front of the better of the two units, there is a tree that provides lots of much-needed shade in the middle of the day. Step onto the beach and look to the left. See that massive natural skyscraper? Gunung Agung is an awesome currently active volcano. Take your gaze further down the coast and you can see where the lava river, during the deadly 1963 eruption, flowed into the sea. The landscape over there is definitely different, quite barren. The reason why the USAT Liberty (a very popular diving and snorkeling site) is now submerged just offshore is because the lava moved it there. You face north here. While I was here I was treated to both the sunrise and sunset. Mt Agung has a special soft and red quality as the sun rises. Sunrise is highly recommended. Assuming the weather is clear, the stars at night are gorgeous. The coral gardens is not in front of the property, but the sea is still refreshing and while I was here, very clear. Speaking of coral, if you want to do any snorkeling, step onto the beach, turn right and walk straight about two or 300 m. It’s not the world’s best coral reef, but there is certainly a lot of marine life there, including the odd sea turtle or two. VBB doesn’t have a restaurant, but that’s actually good news because you are surrounded by fantastic and cheap restaurants. The Indian restaurant, just east of the property, serves great thalis. Excellent burgers are to be found on the main street within spitting distance. Try the delicious homemade ice cream next door to the burger joint. Across the street is an excellent unpretentious warung serving cheap and delicious Balinese food. Sony and his family are nice and in no way try to push this or that tour into your face. There are a few noises once in a while during each passing 24 hours. But mostly, all you hear is the sound of the waves rolling onto the beach. VBB is not for those looking for five-star luxury. But for budget travelers, and those who know precisely what they want in a beach vacation, this place is fantastic overall.

I spent 6 days here just to chill out and explore the area. Wayan was awesome in helping me with everything. He arranged a scooter for me which made my stay so much more fun. Wanwin and Wayan were terrific with advising me about the area. All the cleaning and restaurant staff were amazing and helpful as well. Food was really good and the breakfast was certainly enough, tasty and a good choice. Wanwin looked after me for transport to Singaraja. The pool is the perfect temperature and design. I will stay here again without a doubt. My room also had a view of Mount Agung. So majestic.

Classic Beach Villas are located near the northern end of Amed as you approach from Amlapura. Travel time from Kuta is around 3 hours. Impressions from the dusty road outside are not encouraging but once inside the compound it offers rustic charm. The compound features approximately a dozen free standing villas made of timber, ratten and thatched roofs. The villas are located on the edge of the compound and encircle an infinity pool and small cafe. Looking towards the beach it is surprising to see a traditional salt making facility complete with brine ponds and timber canoe-shaped salt evaporators. The whole vibe is casual with matching service. Staff are friendly but don’t expect anything to be rushed. However don’t hesitate to ask staff for anything such as motor bike hire, car and driver and laundry and it will all be taken care of. Our villa (villa 1) features a large bed with mosquito net and minimal furnishings. There is a simple semi enclosed bathroom attached. The deck areas out front facing the pool and garden courtyard featuring daybeds are very pleasant to relax in and people watch. The beach is pebbles and black sand but the water is relatively clean. Spectacular views of Gunung Agung (volcano) are on offer. Beach side cafes immediately adjacent offer great cheap food. The villa cafe offers simple tasty breakfast, snacks and drinks. It’s pleasing to see the traditional way of life continuing along the beach with fishing prahos and the salt works although these are fast disappearing to be replaced with hotels and villas. Maintenance of the villas is a little hit and miss. At around US dollar 40-50 a night Classic Beach Villas Amed offers an enjoyable 3 star experience and 4 stars in its class

Well were do I start...firstly we booked our room for 5 weeks wish we could of stayed longer. We had twin room. The room was large . It had kettle and tea and coffee. Unlimited bottle water. Fridge Safe . Beds were comfortable. Fantastic aircon and also ceiling fans. Room looked as it hadn’t be long since painted. Our rooms were cleaned every day and our beds were changed every day Really lovely Bathroom is and open air one it was huge. Plenty of hot water and really good pressure Toilet worked well. Why I say that is because we have stayed in a few places and they don’t work Every morning you are bought a tray with tea and coffee plus boiling water in a thermos to your balcony which I thought was lovely . So if your up early and the other person isn’t you can sit on balcony enjoy your cup of coffee with out disturbing the other person. Great free wifi The pool was lovely and plenty of chairs around to lay on. Plenty of pool towels also The gardens were beautiful just feel sorry that while we were there we only seen rain twice and Amed needs so much rain it is very dry. But at hotel they were watering every day to keep gardens green. The new manager Alex was very nice. He would alway stop and ask if everything was okay and if we ever needed anything it was not a problem for him. He also would ask if we had any new ideas for the hotel. I think he will be a great manager. What we noticed with him he would stop and chat with all the guests. Alex would always be walking around making sure everything was looking good for guests The owner was a very nice man also and he would stop and talk to us often . The restaurant was great food that we had was lovely. Great chicken curry and fresh fruit platters were amazing. My husband loved the mixed omelette Staff were so lovely and nothing was a problem for them. Very helpful and kind. So thank you to everyone at Oasis for our amazing stay. We wish all of you a amazing Happy New Year and hope one day we will get to come back. Judy and Ray from Perth
