Stayed one night for business and can highly recommend for an overnight stay. Was an initial issue getting to the hotel as followed sat nav which brings you out by the racecourse barriers which you can't get through...went on the website to get the number to call and the number was missing a digit so couldn't call, eventually found my way and after being quite frustrated was greeted by a lovely lady on reception who was very helpful and informative and a real credit to the hotel. Got to my room, and as per the title it was small, with a massive superking bed which dominated the room, but very tastefully and thoughtfully decorated and very clean. No room for a desk at all so not somewhere you could work from if you needed to. As I was a solo traveller the room size was adequate but would feel small for 2 people moving around. Bed was extremely comfortable and a powerful hot shower too. It was my first time staying at The Lodge but will certainly be staying again next time I'm in Newbury for business.

We visited this hotel for a couple of days, it was easy to find and in a central location only a few minutes away from the town. There is a free car park behind the hotel (don't forget to register with reception) All staff were lovely throughout and helpful, the room was a good size for two people, it was clean and tidy, like the rest of the hotel. We also stayed for dinner, the food selection was good and very tasty and again the service was excellent The only negative and this would not stop me staying here was the room we were located in was at the front of the hotel, we did hear the traffic quite a lot, especially early in the morning and also the floorboard every time someone walked passed but this does not impact my review as we had a fantastic time anyway and when we return I'll just bring ear plugs

I booked a table at the Hangout - the hotel’s fabulous outside dining space where I’ve been with friends several times before. I made the booking online. All good. I called the day before to check it was ok if I bought along my very well behaved dog, and was told that was fine, as long as I didn’t walk through the front of the hotel as dogs are not allowed inside. Ok, that was fine too. Arrived just before our booking time to be told that the Hangout was closed for a wedding. What?!! Does the right hand really not know what the left hand is doing in this hotel? A very nice man explained that the Hangout was now closed for bookings until the end of May but we could still sit outside ….. either in a sunken courtyard almost as part of someone else’s baby shower, or at a table covered in bird mess outside the bar. No thanks! We ended up at another table which was just ok but not what we were looking forward to, but hey, the sun was shining. I have no issue with customer service as the staff all appear to be friendly and helpful. But what I massively object to is how a hotel of this standard can get it so very wrong when it comes to internal communication. Nobody seems to know what is going on. Oh, and I asked about the dog thing too and was told that dogs are welcome and that I could walk through the hotel. Crazy. Please learn to communicate - not just with your paying customers but internally too. It would save a lot of hassle and is a really poor reflection when people like me pull you up on sites like this.

We used this hotel as a base to go horse racing in Newbury. Our initial room did'nt have a bath, but the very helpful young man on reception moved us without fuss in no time. When settled we went for a drink in the bar.We had booked dinner for both days and were very happy with both the food and the service( Ramana and Steffan were excellent). Breakfast was also good with plenty of variety and re-stocked regularly. Well done to all concerned,we will return. As a side note, a taxi to the racecourse is between £12 and £15 each way and takes about 15 mins.
