Morrison House is an delightful boutique hotel, small enough that it feels like a hideaway. The area feels very safe for women traveling alone. There is an adorable courtyard entry with a fountain and double curving steps up to the the door. We stayed at the end of a week in DC, so we each had a large suitcase and a carry-on to haul awkwardly up the steps - maybe stay there when you are traveling more lightly. The front desk staff were adequately friendly. I am not disappointed in the service, but I did not have the outstanding experience that some reviewers have written about. We were upgraded to an Illustrator room, which is a corner room on a high floor. I found the room very clean and in good repair. The mattress was medium firmness and we slept well. The shower had good water pressure. We did not hear any noise from outside. Unfortunately it began to rain shortly after our arrival so we did not get a chance to explore the area. I did go downstairs for a complementary glass of wine. We were there on a Sunday so the restaurant was closed. Be sure to note the square footage of the rooms. They are smaller than average rooms in a 4-star hotel. The room did feel small but I think it was due to the 8-foot ceiling because it did not feel cramped. The air conditioning unit was a bit noisy but like I mentioned above, we did sleep well. Parking is in an underground garage below the hotel. Our vehicle was parked for us but they do not have valet services.

I am glad I didn’t pay full price ($350/night) for this. Great location and everything looks nice from the outside and the lobby. The room is decent from the looks but once you stay in there, you will realized nothing is working properly. The AC/Heater was not working, the control for the AC/Heater doesn’t work so the AC was blasting cold air all night on NYE!!! So we were both freezing and it was 2am! The TV only have 5 channels and 2 are the same as the other 2, so in reality only 3 channels. The TV quality is also very outdated. Feel like we were watching TV from the 80s/90s when it was the actual 2024 NYE concerts. And on the 5th channel, it is just showing how DirectTV subscription is expired, like what? The Wifi in the room is not free unless you are a Bonvoy member. There was less than a quarter roll of toilet paper on the Tp dispenser and they also didn’t provide a second roll. The body wash pump was empty and the shampoo ran out. The bottom side of the toilet seat looks very filthy as if they haven’t clean that part of the toilet seat in a while. The floor of the bathroom was also very dirty. We usually check if we can ask for a late check-out the night before, but we called the front desk with no answers. When they finally answered, they said we have to call back at 7am to let us know. Ehh Hello? The whole point of getting a late check out is so we can sleep in? So I had to set an alarm to call back at 7am to get a 1pm check out. It was a bit annoying. This was a big disappointment for me because this was supposed to be a nice hotel from Marriott as the Autograph Collection. Especially for $350 a night in the middle of Old Town Alexandria, I had expected better quality. Not to mention the chaos during check-in. Seems like there were only 4 workers there for HUNDReDs of customer. People were angry about being stuck in the parking garage and no one can help them and they gave a lady a room that currently already have someone checked-in. Apparently the lady opened the door when the guy was showering in the room. What a chaos!

Overall I give this stay 5 stars. The front desk staff were VERY friendly! The location is epic! While there is currently no housekeeping service due to covid 19, house keepers came by the room each day to drop off any requested room items (eg coffee toiletries towels). Hummingbird restaurant is open and delicious. Notes: Parking available in a city deck immediately behind the hotel for significantly less money than hotel parking. The walls in the hotel are VERY thin - I listed to my literally could listen in on neighbors phone calls (& ahem…other activities).

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary weekend at the Lorien Hotel and Spa. Our decision to stay there was in part due to the customer service before we even booked the room. The stellar service continued when we arrived. Ashley took really great care of us during our stay to help me our anniversary even more special. We booked a terrace suite which looked just like it did in the photos- beautiful! Plus, it was very clean. The hotel location is on the quieter side of King Street, which is lined with amazing food and shopping along the walk towards the river. We are already working on plans to return to Alexandria again soon. The Lorien will be our hotel location from now on. Kim and Marcus

This hotel is wonderful in every way. The facility is especially clean, the breakfast buffet extensive, beds and rooms very comfortable, and small kitchens a plus. The entire staff was especially efficient, courteous, and gracious - front desk (guest experts), breakfast staff, cleaning staff, and the shuttle drivers. They were all genuinely polite, friendly, and welcoming. The hotel offers free shuttle service within 1 mile, and it is just 2 blocks from the free Trolley that goes down King Street - although the waterfront is a pleasant 20-minute walk away. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. It is not safe. My mother, my sister, and I went to Alexandria to visit my husband who is active duty. My mother (93) and sister (71) stayed at the Holiday Inn Carlyle, 2460 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria, VA 22314 from 5/5/22-5/7/22. On Saturday evening, 5/7/22 at approximately 9pm, there was a tall African American man in their room when they entered. He was walking toward them and my sister asked him who he was and how did he get into their room. His response was that he thought this was his friend’s room and showed them that his key card worked and said he would go to the front desk to get this straightened out. Nothing was stolen from mother and sister but my sister said he had clothes draped over his arm with price tags hanging. They were understandably shaken up. They could have been killed. They went to the front desk and they had someone walk them back to their room to tell them how to use the deadbolt. This way no one could enter their room once they were inside, he said. Apparently, an engineer was to come to their room also to look at the key lock but he never showed up. It was too late to move hotels by the time this was all done and they were okay staying the night. The next morning, we moved them to another hotel. I called back Monday morning and talked to the General Manager who had no idea that this happened on Saturday. He called the police and said his staff did not follow protocol. They should have called the police on Saturday evening. Hmmm makes you wonder if the staff was in on this and the man had a master key perhaps or the front desk employees were making keys to the rooms that they had guests staying in for him. It was clear that he stole from other rooms by the clothes with tags over his arm. The GM was kind (at first) and comped the room for the 3 nights and gave us bonus IHG reward points as we are a member. I could care less about the points. What I’m concerned about is 2 months later (7/22), the police said that the hotel has not provided any video footage. I have called the hotel several times and talked to the GM and was told not to call them anymore and to talk to the police. I did call them back again as nothing was getting resolved and talked to the assistant GM and he told me in an email “the hotel management is working with the local City of Alexandria Police Department and will be sending the footage requested by officer XXXX, once obtained from security camera technician. Any additional updates or information will come from City of Alexandria Police Department.” I talked with the police last week (6/27/22) and the hotel has not provided the video footage yet. I have called the GM back several times since and got his voicemail. I have tried for 2 months to get some resolution so the only thing I can do now is to make all of you aware of this situation and DO NOT STAY HERE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. Besides, the hotel is run down and the comforters had stains on them. Just terrible all the w

The overall appearance of the building was dismal at best. I don't think the sheets were changed from the last guess. The towels didn't appear to be cleaned as well. I really just think nobody cared about anything around there because of his cheap price. The room was non-refundable as well I wouldn't recommend unless you're looking for a cheap place where you can guess whether the things were cleaned or not

Second time-even better! We chose this hotel again because of its proximity to the Metro and Old Town. It was a win-win on both accounts. We loved walking around the area and eating locally plus we loved having easy access to DC for the museums etc. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a large desk for the bit of work we needed to do. The Wi-Fi was free but I had trouble with it using AT&T but my partner has Verizon and had no issues. I did love the digital key on the app. It didn’t work a couple of times as my Wi-Fi was iffy at times in and near the room. We went to the diner next door for more reasonable breakfast prices.

I am a travel nurse and I booked 7 days at this location. However, after checking it I was very disappointed. The room had a horrible smell to it, the vent was extremely dirty, and the toilet didn’t work. I then went downstairs to have my room changed, which the night shift assistant helped me with. The next room was slightly better outside of this loud noise that I couldn’t find the cause of. The room was a handicap assessable room, had slight smell as well and dishes were not clean, tub was dirty, and the microwave had old food in it. The next morning I approached Rafeal at the front desk due to the loud noise and me not being able to sleep due to it. Since I was scheduled to stay 7 days, I needed a new room. When I approached him, he was on his phone and didn’t look up at me until I said hello. I then proceeded to ask for another room due to the loud noise. Without him looking into the computer, he told me that “there’s no other room”. I asked him if he could please look because last night the other attendant was able to move me due to a toliet issues and the smell of the room. He said it again, there’s no other room. I then asked him to change my departure date to the next day because I’m extremely unhappy. He did, I asked will I get a refund after check out for the $800 I was charged, he said he wasn’t sure. His attitude and demeanor made me not want to stay here anymore ! At least the night shift attendants were nice. I checked out this morning and was greeted by Marie. She was a breath of fresh air. I proceeded to tell her about the problems o had and She apologized for my issues I had at her location. She was very empathetic & told he how I can voice my concerns. I appreciate her great customer service!

Ctrip booked two double-bed rooms, ready to check in at the front desk, and only one double bed was answered. The Ctrip customer service was always busy. Later, a customer service called me to talk to the hotel front desk and gave them to the hotel. After a confirmation code inside, the hotel found another section of the department, or a double bed. The customer service phone changed the hotel front desk to a large bed. The front desk refused, said it could not be changed, and finally had to wait for Ctrip to negotiate, about an hour before and after. Finally, I went to the hotel on-duty manager to explain the situation before I was able to check in. I got my room card at 8:50 pm and 10:00 pm. After a long day of fatigue, it was a bit ugly to encounter this. The location is relatively close and the price is relatively cheap. After all, Hilton is a big name, but this type of hotel has to charge and expensive for breakfast. I still think that holiday inn and crown plaza are better and cost-effective.

The staff at the front desk, breakfast area and the cleaning staff were VERY nice. Congratulations to management on finding nice people and setting a tone. That takes work. The room was clean and spacious. The king bed was a bit firm for my wife but fine for me. There was light traffic noise but that did not affect sleeping and the room was dark, almost perfect for sleeping. There were a variety of things for breakfast ( yogurt, oatmeal, bagels , an egg dish…good coffee!)The main breakfast dish which changed regularly was sometimes not quite hot enough and underseasoned for our tastes but more than adequate. We would readily stay there again and any slight negatives were exactly that.

I enjoyed the stay here. The utensils and dishes are often hard to get enough of. For example, I wanted some forks, but they were out. They had plenty of dishes for me to use, and I had brought along a spoon, so I ate with the spoon I brought with me. Otherwise the rooms are adequate to move around, and the queen size bed was firm and comfortable. There are three pillows of various firmness and thickness, so should suit most people. The breakfast is paltry, only consists of instant oatmeal and granola bars. There is plenty of coffee. Once coffee ran out, so I notified the management, and they started a new batch right away. Per posted policy, they don't clean the room if staying less than a week.

Hotel stay was far less than satisfactory and here are the reasons: 1. Some Front Desk staff didn’t know how the Bonvoy Ambassador hotel credit worked providing evidence many are poorly trained. a. The morning front desk member told me that he “just worked here” and the manager would arrive in a couple of hours to help me. No one ever got back to me. b. Requested manager support, not one got back to me. 2. Hotel room had: a. Collapsed cushions on the couch. b. Mold in bathroom c. Broken or extremely worn furniture. d. Torn and ripped window drapes 3. Billing was wrong and difficult to correct. Our family grew up managing hotels and I know that owning and operating a hotel is very difficult, this hotel exemplifies just how hard it is. I will not stay at this hotel again because there are so many other quality hotels in the area at the same cost.

Glad we stayed here. The hotel was immaculate. The bell staff always opened the door for us and greeted us each time we walked in. The elevators were super fast and the room was exceptional. We were upgraded to a larger room and it was perfect for the visit. The restaurant was not too bad and the only thing is I normally do not like to leave the car with a valet but they were fast and friendly. You text them and they reply an give you a time to come get the car. Make sure you have some money handy as they do overwhelm you and begin to grab bags and park the car. I was unprepared and had to remember who to tip later on in the visit. The room air was perfect and the visit was fantastic.

Very big hotel, went to the room for a long time. It is suitable for self-driving tourists with cars. It is surrounded by fast roads and has no scenery. The place to eat and the old town are a few kilometers away. The ancient city is beautiful.

We stayed 3 nights whilst attending a wedding celebration in Alexandria. The hotel provided an excellent base for exploring the area, with the location a good compromise between the old town and the metro link. Check-in was fast and efficient, with Pam providing a warm welcome and allowing entry to the rooms 3 hours before check-in. The three suites in our group were very well appointed, clean and the AC worked well. We really appreciated the complimentary breakfast offering and the on-site shop for basics. We would definitely return.

This was a great hotel in a wonderful town not too far from DC. The architecture was amazing, and the room had quite a unique setup. Service was good and I had no complaints.

Great front desk service although they need better response to issues that occasionally arise from 3rd party bookings.
