Kiso Town
|11.76km from city centerConclusions: I stayed for two nights at Tsutaya Tokinoyado Kazari - and the stay is unforgettable. Everything’s was perfect - location, view at the mountains, the staff, the Onsen and the food was amazing. The staff speak some english. If you are nearby them you need to stay at this hotel - it is worth the money. Review: When I arrived at Kiso station the hotel car was waiting outside, where the driver approach me. After 40 min drive I arrived to the hotel, where i got a really warm welcome by the staff. The staff also gave a tour round the hotel, where they tried to explain about everything including the clothes, I could wear during my stay, but I did not really understood what I was told - more about this later. The hotel is located in Kaida Highland in a very small villages - it is so peaceful. There are some farms in the neighborhood, where you can see the small Japanese horses, I did some hiking in the mountains nearby. The nature is very beautiful. The room was amazing - except for the height on the doors. I have chosen a room in western style, because I do not like the Japanesse beds. The room had a balcony with perfect view at the mountains and the sunset. There was a bathtub on the balcony which was amazing, when you have been hiking the most of the day. Breakfast and dinners is included, and the food is amazing. It is Japanesse courses and they tasted really well. The staff and the chief tried to tell about the menu, but it was very difficult to undertand them, but it did not have any impact on this amazing experience. Before dinner you can have a glass of wine or beer in the cozy living room next to the restaurant. In the aisle outside the rooms you will find some clothes - kimonos. One white and one gray/black. When I was introduced to the clothes I did not understand, when I should wear it. But the white kimono is for dinner and the gray/dark kimono is for breakfast. At my first dinner I showed up in my usual clothes, when the rest of the guests were wearing the white kimono. Next morning I showed up in the white kimono when the rest of the guests were wearing the gray/dark kimono. On the second day new guests checked in at the hotel, at they did the same mistake. It was also my first time in an Onsen. I was a really good experience and so good for my body. I have checked at google, what I should do, before i visited the Onsen - i will recommend that. There some special traditions related to an Onsen. But it was so good.

Nagiso
|4.75km from city centerIn the beginning of July, when bad weather due to heavy rain is expected, I contacted the hotel in advance about the road conditions in the surrounding area. Even so, if I was worried about a disaster, I was kind enough to say that I would not be charged a cancellation fee even if it was the day of the event, just because of the circumstances. Well, I left home thinking that it would be okay, but luckily I was able to avoid being hit by the heavy rain. However, at that time, National Route 41 (Hidaji), which was a little north of Route 19 (Kisoji), was hit by heavy rain and the road collapsed and was closed to traffic for a month. ★Overview of the hotel A large hotel in the mountains of Nagiso Town. ★Access By car: About 40 minutes from Chuo Expressway Nakatsugawa IC. There is a large parking lot in front. There is nothing around, and Famima Nakatsugawa Ochiai will be the last convenience store. ★Guest room Japanese style room on the 4th floor with 12.5 tatami wide veranda (non-smoking). You can see the mountains of Kiso. The rooms are well maintained and don't feel discouragingly dilapidated. ★Meals The dinner and breakfast buffets in the spacious restaurant with high ceilings do not have high-end ingredients, but they offer a wide variety of dishes, all of which are delicious. Sweetfish porridge at breakfast is very rare. ★Hot spring The spring quality is alkaline simple hot spring (alkaline hypotonic hot spring). The large garden open-air bath is wonderful. I've never seen a ”Shampoo Buffet” where you can enjoy about 10 types of shampoo in small portions. ★Customer service All the staff, including the front desk and dining staff, serve customers seriously. ★Recommended stopovers in the surrounding area Besides the classic Tsumago and Magome, Toki Premium Outlet is also convenient on the way back to Nagoya. It was a hotel with a favorable impression that did not disappoint the expectations for the brand of “Ooedo-Onsen Monogatari”.

Kiso Town
|6.03km from city centerThis hotel is located deep in the mountains. Its name is ”Forest Hotel”. It is three kilometers away from the bottom of the mountain. There are few restaurants nearby, and almost none are open at night. The hotel's own restaurant only offers sukiyaki set meals for reservations, and meals cannot be served without reservations. Later, I found a Chinese restaurant ”Kitaro” eight kilometers away from the hotel. The diligent owner was open almost every day and served food until ten o'clock in the evening. I really need this dining advice when staying at this hotel. The nearby attractions of this hotel are very good. In addition to the historical streets, I recommend the ”Sleeping Bed” and ”Asa Valley”. In terms of natural beauty, it is irreplaceable, but it is a bit primitive. I highly recommend it. Wear sneakers to climb. The hotel itself has a large bath, but it is actually just a large bath and does not have sauna-style equipment. It's not a new hotel, but it's well maintained. All the equipment doesn't look shabby. The rooms are big and it's quite comfortable to stay.

Kiso Town
|1.07km from city centerIt was a room facing the road, and at night it was quiet and I felt like I had slipped back in time looking at the road. It was quiet, probably because I stayed out of season, so I enjoyed the town quietly and slowly. It was a room without a bath, but there was a large public bath, so there was no problem. The large public bath was satisfying with an open-air bath along the river. The room was clean and spacious. The building may be old, but it was well renovated and I didn't feel old. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and you can feel Kisoji. It was a satisfying stay.

Kiso Town
|1.18km from city centerThis is my second time using it. The building is a little old but clean. It is a comfortable inn where you can feel the hospitality. Drink bar, water server on each floor, common room, free manga corner, free massage chair. You can choose a yukata, a pillow, and a humidifier. There is an extension outlet and a hair dryer in the room. The standard course meal is reasonably priced at 2,000 yen for dinner and 1,000 yen for breakfast. However, while I think it would be nice if the inn would read it, there are two points I would like to improve. When I stayed for the first time, I was delighted to have hot tempura, probably because it was a weekday stay. When I stayed for the second time, it was a Saturday, so when I went to the dining room, the fried food (fried fish on this day) was already on the table, and it was still a little warm, but it was getting cold. . We got to our seats about 5 minutes before the start of the meal, so if we had sat down on time, we would have been cold. This is a scene that unfolds as a matter of course at a common reasonable ryokan. No matter how low the price, I don't think anyone would be happy to eat cold fried food. Even if you don't force yourself to serve fried food, even if it's simmered or cooked in a hot pot, I'd like you to serve hot food warm. There is a microwave that you can use yourself, so you can warm it up a little, but the fish fry had tartar sauce on it, so I just ate it. For breakfast, cold grilled salmon and a bite omelet came out, so I chinned them in the microwave. After all, it was delicious when warmed up. one more. Even if I wanted to stay, there were only smoking rooms available, so I gave up several times. There is also a smoking room on the 1st floor, and an ashtray is installed outside, so please make all rooms non-smoking. In any case, it is my favorite inn, so I would like to stay again.

Agematsu
|2.58km from city centerThe staff really went above and beyond to make two ignorant Canadian tourists feel extremely welcome at a traditional Japanese Ryuken. Though there was a small language barrier, we never felt that we could not communicate our needs. The hot and cold onsen was very refreshing after walking post towns along the Nakasendo Way. The river next to the hotel made for a relaxing experience and deep sleep. Somehow, I missed the option when booking to select the dinner option, there is really no other food options in the area, and the clerk (owner) said he would put a 'simple meal' together for us for a small charge which we found acceptable. The kaiseki that followed was some of the best and most authentic Japanese food we experienced in our two weeks in Japan. The woman serving us was an absolute gem and the cat that ran the establishment was adorable. Our room was very comfortable and had a nice sitting area with a view of the river.
Only points of contention would be that that it's a little out of the way if you don't have a car, but is conveniently accessable by bus with ~10 minute walk. The facilities are a little dated, the onsen is discoloured, but I assume that is from the natural minerals. There was a stale smell (smoke) in the rooms which is a bit off-putting to non-smokers. It would appear smoking is allowed in the facility which might be a plus to some.

Kiso Town
|1.03km from city centerVery polite old lady's family hotel. But the price/performance ratio is really not high. The hot spring water is authentic because there is a paper certificate, but I don’t know why it smells like disinfectant water. I guess it is because of the epidemic? Breakfast and dinner can only be said to be basically full, so don't expect anything extra. The room (Room 135) is very big and has two toilets. When I made the reservation, it was 2,400 RMB in the morning and evening in Liangdalian. When I checked in, I brought an extra child and charged 4,400 yen plus a Futon, which was very reasonable. When we were leaving the store, the old lady came to the door and bowed until we disappeared from sight. She was really very hospitable. If I had to choose again, I would still stay here, but I would not include dinner (there is an izakaya in the alley next to the hotel).
