6.75km from Yio Chu Kang StadiumOn 18th July 2019, I visited Hotel 81 Fuji in Singapore for a 3 night stay. I checked in and went to the room and immediately was met by a disgusting smell that can only be described as faeces. This wasn’t helped by the fact there was no ventilation in the room. The whole room seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned for a long time. There were stains on the bed sheets and the toilet seat was yellow. I have attached images of this for proof. As you can expect, this is not the kind of room you would want to spend a single night in. I went straight to the reception desk and asked if they can move me to a different room. However, they advised me that this was not possible as they didn’t have any spare rooms that night but to come back in the morning instead. I was told that for the inconvenience, the morning staff will move me to an upgraded room. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to stay in that room that night. On the morning of 19th July 2019, I went back to the reception desk who told me I had to wait a little longer for a room to be ready. I was then given keys to a new room in the afternoon, a room which was worse than the previous. Again, the sheets were not clean, the toilet was in a disgusting state which the hotel manager also agreed was not acceptable. He told me that he is happy to give me a refund for the 2 remaining nights which to this day I have yet to receive. What I found out later that same day explained the reasons behind the messy rooms. Apparently, the hotel is famous for allowing for 1 hour bookings that are predominantly used by sex workers. Now, I’m sure you can agree that it will be extremely difficulty for a hotel to clean rooms multiple times a day following the1 hour bookings. I saw many young women with older men entering the hotel and leaving within the hour. This was the worst ever experience of my 6 week travels. Not only was I made to be afraid for a night, staying in a hotel with illegal sex work around, but my brief time in Singapore was completely wasted on this matter. I was also forced to book a very expensive hotel last minute which I was not expecting to do.
