|8.53km from city centerI cannot imagine what the few nay-sayers here expect for £65 per night, including breakfast. This is a clean, comfortable, modern hotel with friendly, welcoming staff. Parking is easy. The rooms are well-equipped and a wide range of toiletries are provided, free of charge, if needed. The rooms are air conditioned and secure. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily. The location is quiet at night and the curtains are blackout. I slept well. The bar is well stocked and there is plenty of room. The breakfast buffet, has fruit, porridge, innumerable cereals, toast, fruit compote, yoghurt, muffins, croissants, hot bacon, beans, sausages and scrambled eggs. The hot food was well prepared. There is a range of tea, coffee and fruit juice. There is plenty of seating and the tables are cleaned and sanitised throughout. There is a large, accommodating, reasonably-priced pub next door with a good menu for evening meals. In all I would recommend this hotel.

|8.3km from city centerUnfortunately our overnight sleep was shortened by the drunk men fighting directly outside our (ground floor) room between 02:45am and 03:15am. They then had a break but came back with reinforcements (more drunk screaming women) at 03:30am. Interesting and informative perhaps but not conducive to a good night's rest. The staff (not surprisingly) didn't intervene and, if they did call the Riot Squad or Water Cannon, these failed to appear. Oh ... and it was 'all Toby's fault'. Apparently. Let's hope he was suitably chastised.

|0.13km from city centerMy husband and I visited for dinner last evening, and here is my take: My husband’s starter of salad with chicken and bacon was very good but my choice of Brixham crab cake ran into trouble; I got no taste of crab whatsoever and so I asked how much crab should be included in the recipe. The waitress assured me she would ask the chef and the answer was that as no delivery of crab had arrived that day, then my “crab cake” was actually a plain fish cake She removed the cost of this from my bill. I felt very sorry for her having to front a significant error made by the chef who had failed to communicate with her and allowed the menu to go out either through pressure or arrogance. Mains were pleasant but underwhelming; my husband’s pan fried cod on saffron mash was not very flavourful and my ballotine of chicken was just short of disappointing. Our shared pudding of lemon meringue pie on raspberry coulis was pretty good. The waitress was very charming and not at all defensive in this awkward situation regarding the “ no crab “ crab cake ; entirely the fault of the chef. We were not charged for the fish cake but when the bill arrived we were charged for both an extra glass of wine and a plate of mussels neither of which we had The poor waitress explained that someone had sat at our table earlier that day and their bill had unfortunately been added to ours. This was resolved and we added a 10% tip solely because we were impressed by and sorry for the delightful waitress. Sorry chef but even Wivey locals can spot a “no crab “crab cake

|0.69km from city centerI have stayed at the New Barn B&B, just for 1 might, for the first time in July and it was very good indeed. Good facilities – plenty in the tea and coffee making tray, comfortable bed, beautifully clean bathroom with all provisions. The bedroom and all ‘public’ rooms were well presented and very clean. Julie ( the host) is very friendly and most helpful and accommodating. To top it all there is the really splendid ‘full English’ breakfast freshly cooked for you – unlike the big hotels. It can be difficult to find but use Google Maps and, especially Street View, and you will find the lane leading to this B&B. It is a useful location for touring this area but also as a good overnight stopover en route to Devom and Cornwall. All in all, highly recommended.

|5.56km from city centerRoom ok, staff all great apart from a lady with red hair who was very abrupt. Breakfast had to be pre ordered which was fine but on my last morning I did not want a cooked breakfast, so just had the continental. On departure we were being charged for the breakfast I didn't have. When I questioned this and said I didn't have breakfast this morning the lady at the desk said 'yes you did' quite abruptly, which obviously my response was 'no, I did not'. This seemed to be a problem as the mood was very grumpy from her. Also tried to charge for another day for parking which was incorrect as we had to park across the road as the entrance was too tight for our vehicle. Overall lovely staff and food, just really let down by the lady with the red hair on check out unfortunately.

|2.37km from city centerHappy to help, nice rooms, no biscuits but it’s ok. Nice big quality tv, comfy soft bed, nice heater that heated room quickly, small bath…but still a bath which was good. Water pressure to run bath was quick. I noticed had a big shower head, so would have been a nice shower, I just prefer a bath. Overall comfortable good place to go to for any reason. Price I got at one point was £50 per night. Same stay same night was £110 for one night at premier inn.

|6.24km from city centerThis is a hotel with a British character, located just across the road from Taunton Railway Station, but not noisy. Although it is a long history, the painting and protection are excellent. Breakfast is English, the weight is very large, the taste, I personally like it. But, after all, it is an old house, there is no elevator, and it is very inconvenient to have a lot of luggage. Moreover, the faucet and shower are more difficult to adjust, and the water temperature may be hot! However, the heating is really good and it is also hot.
The young lady who serves here is very beautiful and patient.

Wellington
|0.18km from city centerIt is a local hotel and bar. In the town center of Wellington, the middle-aged and elderly people like to drink and chat here during the day and night. It is very good. It is very close to the station. It is recommended by the school and the local park.

|2.1km from city centerStayed here for a couple of nights with my husband. Great communication from Karen prior to arrival. We were greeted warmly on arrival, checked in smoothly and then shown to our room (Granary). The room was nicely furnished and the bed was extremely comfy. The bonus for me was the whirlpool bath, as I only have a shower at home, so a relaxing soak was very much appreciated! Karen was staggering breakfast times to ensure the dining room didn't get too crowded. Breakfast itself was fab, many options on offer including cereals, cooked breakfast, muffins, toast and even a Mexican omelette affair. Both Chris and Karen were extremely helpful and approachable, recommending a restaurant for our 2nd night's evening meal. Although the farmhouse is now surrounded by a housing estate, it has plenty of parking on site, a lovely garden and feels almost 'countrified'. Would definitely book again if we stay in the area in future.

|8.73km from city centerMale at check in could not have been more miserable, uninviting and hated life more if he tried. After grunting his way through the booking and sliding a piece of paper to sign and then sliding the key to me I wasnt quite sure if we had finished the transaction as there was no guidance from himself. I said are we all done and as he grunted at me I assumed we were there so I left to find the room. The room was on the ground floor. Bathroom was grotty and the flush just poured out water for half an hour a time every time it was used. Bed was small. Room was dated. Phone was dirty and covered in whatever finger juice had congealed over many years. The carpet was threadbare. The room was an embarrassment to be fair. Went into the bar to get food. Asked for the tablet, the member of staff was busy swearing with the ”regulars” and I felt as though I was causing her problems but she obliged. Ordered a Magners via the tablet, an Astril was dumped on the bar. I left it as that wasnt my order, then was barked at by another woman that was my drink ”but she was too busy to bring it over”, granted there were 2 people at the bar at the time. I said I didnt order that, she told me I had, I assured her I hadnt, then lo and behold they apparently had no Magners so I took the Astril for ease. The food was a pizza which in reality was a burnt base with some mush chucked on. Horrible. Back to the room, good sleep. Breakfast in the morning. No knives, no beans. 2 members of staff having a yap, interrupted them and got what was needed, they went back to yapping. Check out the food and everything was sorted by the company. The receptionist told me it wasn't. I asked her to check as I knew it was, she said I have but I will check again. She told me no the company dont cover it. I assured her they do and this time showed her the booking. She called someone else over who told her to bill the company if thats what i wanted. I left and then they proceeded to moan about me not accepting that the booking was not including food so I had to return and have more of the same conversation. As a diamond elite member this hotel is an embarrassment to the brand. The staff are rude. The rooms are inadequate and dated and the check in and check out process is shambolic at best. Need to do better. Wont be staying there again.

|6.2km from city centerthe rooms aren't bad for what you pay -- albeit the plumbing is really old and the bathroom had a bad odor. But the service in the problem. I booked a triple room for myself and my daughter for a 7 night stay. The room was right over an extremely noisy street – and you had to open the windows at night as the room was hot and stuffy. I couldn’t sleep at all the first night with all the traffic noise, so I asked the next morning if we could move to a quieter room. I told them I don’t mind downgrading, we just need something with two beds and quieter. At first they were very helpful, providing a single quiet courtesy room just for me (my daughter stayed and slept with headphones in), and told me they would work it out for the rest of the stay. But after 2 nights they told me I had to leave the quiet room. I asked again if we can move to another room and they told me no, it’s all booked. . I asked why they didn’t give me a chance to book the extra single room before they rented it and they got extremely rude and evaded the question. They told me it was too bad and if I don’t like it I could leave. I asked if I leave, can have my money back for the unused nights and they said no. I wound up leaving with three nights left of my stay. (no refund for unused nights) I asked for written proof that I was leaving and the the assistant manager started yelling at me. Really unprofessional. Don’t stay here.

|6.05km from city centerA friend and I stayed at The Castle for a girls weekend away. It was a nice treat and perfectly located for exploring Taunton centre. Bars and restaurants just a stroll away. Staff were friendly. Parking was convenient. £10 for 24 hours. Room was clean but very expensive for what it was as we upgraded but it wasn't anything special.

|5.74km from city centerWe stayed at Blorenge House for three nights because our son was playing in a cricket festival nearby. Our party, made up of Mum (me), Dad, Grandad and six year old son (grandson) stayed in Apartment 2 (parents and son) and Room 11 (Grandad). We booked a room for Grandad in the hotel part of this lovely building because we thought he’d need the space. However, he could have easily fitted into the apartment which was luxurious and spacious with two bedrooms - main with what seemed like a super king size bed and second bedroom with twin beds - and two bathrooms. Furthermore there was a lovely relaxing sitting room that easily accommodated a dining table in the corner. Our apartment was “below stairs” but was as far removed from a dark basement as you could imagine. Rather, it was light and welcoming which may have been attributable, in part, to the tasteful decor and gorgeous soft furnishings. The stairs from our apartment led up to the garden area with with an outdoor swimming pool which six year old son (grandson) declared the best part of the three day break. It wasn’t particularly warm while we were there but the gardens catch the sun and it was nice to sit on the outdoor furniture dotted around the garden and adjacent to the apartment. I personally didn’t sample the breakfast as I wanted to maximise use of the self catering facilities but Dad/Grandad said it was excellent and had cereals/fruit/juice followed by full English (and hash browns) with beans/tomato etc and toast. They also appreciated the attentiveness of the lady serving breakfast but didn’t catch her name so sorry can’t name check her. All in all a lovely stay and if our son is lucky enough to be picked for the festival again next year we’ll be back.
