This hotel is quite some distance from Morioka station, there are few shops along the way, it's quite a boring walk but at least the hotel offers great hospitality. To begin with, the hotel reception is located in 2F, but is connected by lift nonetheless. The hotel has a strict check-in time from 3pm until midnight, avoid coming to the hotel between 10am to 3pm, as it's hotel policy that no hotel guest can enter the hotel during this period, that said, guest also cannot deposit or collect luggage during this time frame. This is hotel policy, please do not argue with the helpless staffs over this. Upon check-in, the process is rather automatic, you check-in from a machine, which will then issue a printed room number with access code, this access code is the digital key to your room (there is no physical key). I suggest whoever staying here take a picture of it with your phone in case you lost the printed slip. Right in front of the reception, there are free instant coffee, as well as pyjamas and various types of pillow for free rental. My single room has a double bed, and still left adequate space for my belongings, in addition, there are plenty of power sockets for all my electrical appliances. Super Hotel emphasise plenty on healthy and sustainability, if you are staying more than 1 night, and decided it's not necessary for room cleaning the following day, you'll get a free bottle of mineral water. And if you return your toothbrush to the reception or bring your own chopsticks, you'll get a free snack. Besides that, the tap water is scientifically ionise and great for both consuming and bathing. Super Hotel Morioka has coin laundry, and also 1 communal bath on 2F to be shared between gents and ladies with different interval. During ladies' usage period, the communal bath will be locked, and access passcode can be obtained from the reception, which is located on the same floor as the communal bath. It's claimed that the communal bath is using genuine spring water. Breakfast is free for all staying guests, diagonally in front of the reception counter. The buffet variety is very good, with many hearty selection and an excellent view of Kitakami river. One thing negative about the hotel is that, there are almost no shop along the way from Morioka station to the hotel (otherwise I would have given this review 5 stars), so I'd recommend you have your dinner before coming to the hotel, otherwise, you may have to make do with stuffs from the supermarket some 250m down the junction. Check out is not necessary, you just grab your luggage and go.

This Dormy In is new enough – opened 16th April - that one of the cab drivers did not know it until I told him, “It’s the new hotel!” It’s a bit of a walk from the train station, almost 800m / ½ mile, but it’s very convenient to the restaurant and bar area. Morioka still has a very lively downtown and it’s one of the not- so- many JP towns that does not center itself around the train station. Room 519 is a double-sized bed room with the usual Dormy Inn features: sink in the entryway, mini- fridge under the sink, small table and two chairs, doorless closet, shower room, no tub, but an onsen more than making up for that. This one has a good in- room safe, a valued feature. This room has no view at all, being next to another building which is only about one floor shorter than the D.I. I would recommend viewing the room map before booking and making sure you don’t get the rooms on the north side. Those are X01-02 and X16-20. Breakfast is excellent, with a good selection of high- quality items. Thankfully, Dormys are going away from having breakfast coupons, so you just give them your key card and they scan it. It must save them a lot of paperwork, too. What an improvement. The onsen is superb, another Dormy Inn hallmark. There’s a sauna and baths indoors and outdoors on the top floor.

For those who didn't do their homework, DO NOT mix up Hotel Metropolitan Morioka (Main Building) and Hotel Metropolitan Morioka New Wing. Although under the same management, the two hotels are separated by a junction and a few minutes walk. The former is attached to Morioka station, while the latter is some 300m away by the river, no sheltered walk way. It's one bus stop away from Morioka station, the nearest bus stop is Asahibashi, but most patrons will just walk from Morioka station, it's probably faster even with luggage (barrier free). By the way, most of the city's attractions are actually across the river, and thus closer to the New Wing rather than Morioka station, they are well within walking distance. Technically, I was allowed to check-in as early as 2pm, this is considered very early by any standard, not just in Japan, typically most hotel chains only allow check-in from 3pm or 4pm onwards. My room was a standard twin room, furniture are a little dated, but in general the room is well-maintained, and quite spacious by Japanese standard, offers a good view of Morioka station too, albeit diagonally. The hotel doesn't offer any complimentary bottled water, but you can grab them from vending machines located at the carpark level of the hotel (B1), or convenience store at Morioka station, or from MaxValu supermarket a further 500m walk away. Chargeable beverages (including mineral water) are also available inside in-room fridge, but they naturally cost a little more. Ice machine is located beside the lift, on every floor I suppose. My room comes with a 40" Mitsubishi LCD, a Sharp humidifier, Daikin air-conditioning system, in-room safe, as well as general appliances such as kettle, hairdryer etc. Wi-Fi connection was good even though it's a shared connection, and there are plenty power sockets. My bed is a Simmons Beauty Rest with two pillows, one a memory pillow, the other a soft pillow, it is obvious the hotel has a good emphasis on clients' comfort. One little thing that fascinates me is the room key, it's not any magnetic card, the attached keychain is made of cast iron, known as Nanbu Tekki in Morioka, and is a local signature product. You place the whole bunch of key on the key rest to initiate the room's electricity supply, very unique! I felt like keeping it as a memorabilia (just kidding), but anyway, miniature cast iron souvenirs are available for sale at hotel lobby, but if you are keen on actual Nanbu Tekki products, you can find them in some souvenir shops inside Morioka station, or enquire from the Tourist Information Center there, who will be able to advise you on the well-known shops within the city or probably arrange for a factory visit. Breakfast was at Giovanni (L2), who serves a good range of buffet breakfast that includes both Western and Japanese cuisines, plenty variety of juices and jam, and yummy ice cream for dessert. One thing I can't understand is that they didn't include Morioka's signature noodles, I suppos

The hotel is a little far from the station. About a kilometer. Located in the bustling business district, surrounded by shopping malls and restaurants. Breakfast is very rich! In addition, bicycles can be rented free of charge, which is very pleasant in places like Morioka, where public transportation is not convenient! The room is as small as the average Japanese Express Hotel. But it is also good. Health is not bad.

Hotel Morioka Hills is conveniently located a 3 minute walk from Morioka station. It is a business hotel with Western-style rooms. Japanese-style rooms are also available for a convenient and authentic stay. Air purifiers keep the rooms fresh as can be, so guests can breathe healthy, clean air during their stay. Meals are offered at the hotel, and it is also located next to a convenience store. Softbank WiFi is free to use in the hotel. The Western-style rooms have free wired internet as well.

Walking direction from Morioka JR Station was a little tricky . Helped by a friendly local Japanese, arrived there within 15 mins. The check-in process was not smooth. The room key cards kept on having red light errors; took a while to fix the issue. The spacious room was updated and clean. Beds were comfortable. Less than 10 mins walk there is an excellent supermarket on the first floor of a shopping center. Around 7-8 pm, the daily ready-to-eat food clearance sale makes this store carries the best priced Japanese bento boxes( lunch boxes) I have seen in Japan. The hotel breakfast is on the top floor which offers fabulous views of city and mountains. The food selections (mostly Japanese style) was so so many that I actually have to divide 2 mornings to tried all the dishes. All very yummy and healthy! The only thing needs to improve was the rug in the elevator. It was very dirty. Highly recommend and will stay here again!

Semi Double Room was tiny, only had a hand width allowance in the walkway after opening up my medium sized luggage fully. Toilet was such that I could spit into the sink while on the toilet seat. However, room was clean and a basic breakfast (bun/crossiant and a drink) was provided for free. How to get there from JR Morioka With stairs: Head to Fesan B1 and take the underpass to exit B5/6. Turn left (B6) or right (B5) and walk down the alleyway with the station at your back. Look up and you should be able to see New City Hotel (a brick red building) Without stairs: From the station, follow the signs for Hotel Metropolitan. Just before entering the hotel, you should see an exit to the outside on your right. Take that and cross the road using the traffic light. Turn right and walk straight until you reach the underpass exits B5/6 then follow as above.

Best thing is the location but the room is so tiny. I travelled with a small roller bag and it was a challenge in terms of where to put it in the room! The rates were high in terms of what was provided. There’s an excellent yakitori place worth visiting. Good food, very pleasant staff and ambiance (pleasant jazz music in the background). It’s a small place run by the male chef and 3-4 young staff - all helpful and obliging. They have an English menu so you can be assured you don’t eat something you don’t like. I’ve stayed away from yakitori places for years because it’s like Russian roulette not being able to read the Japanese menu. Also at this place you don’t walk out smelling of your dinner. Good sake selection available. How to find this gem: from the hotel lobby, turn left and walk towards Daiso. Across from Daiso you’ll see a huge Korean restaurant. This lovely yakitori place is next to the Korean place. Has white lanterns on the outside. A good alternative to all the seafood.

I often choose Daiwa Roynet when I travel around Japan. Daiwa Roynet Morioka is not near the JR Station. It seems to be more than 10 min walk. However, it locates round the corner of the street with a lot of eateries. To walk to Iwate Bank and Morioka Castle Park takes about 8 minutes. It’s quite convenient. When I booked the room, I emailed the hotel to ask for a non-smoking room and they said no problem. When I arrived, they told me all the non-smoking rooms were occupied and they upgraded me to twin from deluxe double. It is nearly double the size of a standard double room. The hotel has two carparks, one with a few parking spaces next to the hotel, the other with more parking spaces behind the hotel. When you arrive at the hotel, you can get into the front desk and ask them to show you the direction.

The free breakfast was simple but clean. There is no hot water or hot beverage machine in the hotel, but fortunately, there are convenience stores and vending machines on the doorstep. Very typical Japanese mini hotel chain, small and clean. Autumn leaf prices have overflowed but are still acceptable.

Just finished three nights at R & B. It is a budget hotel providing good value with friendly and attentive staff (with basic english language skills), excellent location for quick access to many restaurants, a 7-Eleven (ATM source), the train & bus station, and abundant shops and services at the Fes'an department store attached to station. Simple continental breakfast (rolls, hardboiled eggs, soups, juice, tea, and coffee. They also have a coin laundry on second floor (although the dryer seemed a dash weak for my jeans), vending machines, and smoking room on ground floor. Our room had a large twin bed, or double. Rather cozy by western standards, framed by walls on 3 sides. It would have been great for myself, but for two with luggage, the room was a bit tight. This is not to fault the hotel. It was my choice. But twin beds would have been easier, a larger room wiser, next time. All around great location and value.

Very exquisite Japanese-style hotel, but the transportation is not convenient enough. There is no shuttle bus. It seems that there is a shuttle bus from the intersection bus stop to the hotel. It takes 30 minutes to take the bus to Morioka Station. The taxi to JR Morioka Station is about 4500 yen.

About 15 minutes walk from Morioka Station, you can also get off the bus from the hotel. The space in the hotel room is large, and the three people will not feel crowded. There are many food markets in the hotel for a few minutes. It is convenient to walk from the hotel to the City Park for a few minutes.

Location: The hotel is in walking distance of JR Morika Station. BUT it is on the wrong side; away from the city center. There are (so far) no restaurants and bars around it, and at the evening therefore there is no place for dinner next to the hotel. The hotel: I would classify the Unizo Inn a low bud business hotel with a functional room design and now extras. The hotel is reduced to the functions of sleeping, having a hot shower and a simple breakfast in the morning before checking out. The staff is (like always in Japan) kind and professional. The room: The room is very simple. There is a room with a bed and a tiny desk. The bathroom is one of this typical cubicle. The room looked and felt a little bit cheap/low budget like a dorm room. BUT putting the room rate into account it is a fair deal: The room is functional, clean and has a reasonable size. Breakfast: is provided by a small cafe that is located in the hotel building. There is no buffet and there is no menu. You get scrambled egg, bacon, toast, salad and coffee (with free refill) BUT I really liked. It is simple, tasty and I realized, that I don't need a big, overprized buffet to start the day. just bacon, eggs and coffee. Mission accomplished. Note: Before I stayed at the Unizo Inn I stayed at the Sendai Metropolitan for more than three times the room rate. My judgment maybe biased ... The overall rating is somewhere between three and four points. Because of the location next to the train station it ideal as a basecamp for daytrips to Kakunodate, Kitkami, Hirosaki, ... I decided to round it up a final verdict of 4 points.

There were two sets of onsens on two different floors and they both had decent size indoor and outdoor baths, though I was there at an offpeak period and they might've been quite packed otherwise. The Japanese-style room was a good size and clean. I got dinner and breakfast with my stay. Dinner - a set course meal - was excellent. Breakfast was buffet-style and in a large hall and wasn't exceptional. There is a shuttle bus to and fro Morioka Station.
