Stayed one night at the end of a long day on the road and thought this was the perfect antidote before flying home. The location of the hotel is quite wonderful, just over the road from the terminal and just exudes calm - much appreciated after some chaotic days. The warm and friendly welcome from Kea checking me in really set the scene for a marvellous stay. My room was wonderfully luxurious and gave me ample opportunity to recover from my travels. The swimming pool on the 8th floor is surprisingly compact, with the lifts opening directly onto the poolside, but it is perfectly fine for a morning dip. It also offers a splendid view out over the terminal and the runways beyond. The pool was not in the best condition (e.g. one of the steps on the ladder into the pool was broken) but I assume this will be addressed by the 3 week long closure and refurbishment of the 8th floor (5 July-23 July 2023). The food on offer at the hotel is quite superb. The dishes I tried from the evening dining menu, room service menu and breakfast menu were all quite superb. The French toast served up for breakfast was particularly delicious. Overall, I thought this hotel was excellent and I would happily stay here again on my next visit to South Africa. From$278

I am a youth leader taking a group to Port Elizabeth. Because of the way our flights worked out we had to spend the night in Johannesburg. I emailed 4 different hotels and Premiere Hotel was the only one to get back to me in a timely fashion. They were extremely helpful and responsive. Mercy was great to work with. They also arraigned transportation for all 34 of us from the airport to the hotel and once at the hotel we all ate in their restaurant and the food was wonderful. Pete, the restaurant manager, was extremely helpful. Overall Premiere hotel took what was the most stressful part of our trip and executed it wonderfully. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The overall amenities of the hotel were absolutely wonderful. The management of this hotel should be proud. 10/10 I cannot recommend them enough.From$68

Excellent location – literally minutes away from the OR Tambo airport. There is a shuttle but it is difficult to locate it. Maybe some signage would help? Once we located it we were however in the hotel in about 5 minutes. The shuttle is quite efficient. The rooms are good sized but the bathrooms are small in comparison. The room was cleaned regularly. The coffee / tea amenities were good. The room I stayed in was however dated, needs updating of the rooms. The heater in my room did not work. I just hope it works during winter. On meals, Breakfast had a good spread on the buffet, very nice. It is the best meal of the day. Lunch and Dinner was also quite good though not as good in variety unless you use the ala carte menu. I did not use the restaurants much outside the meal times or the bar so I am not able to rate these for now. The 3 stars are largely due to the staff. Staff are generally slow, have a poor attitude and look like they have been forced to work. This was especially at the reception and in the dining. You really need friendlier staff at the reception! A good number of times staff paid more attention to speaking with their colleagues than serving guests. I would be in the middle of something with a staff member but another staff member comes to them speaking in their language and you have to wait. It happened to me too often for comfort. Never seen this anywhere else I’ve travelled. A few times they were also speaking across the room. We however met some lovely staff – a gentleman called Trust and a mature lady who was doing our eggs at breakfast, I forgot her name. Do not expect too much but it is an excellent location if having an early flight. From$87

The hotel is great for a one night stopover on arrival in JNB or departing from JNB. Free shuttlebus to the hotel / airport every 30 minutes. 10 minute journey. We arrived early and room wasn’t ready. So, having checked in, staff looked after the luggage and we went for a drink and sat in the garden for 45 minutes. Staff came to tell us room was ready and took us and the luggage to the room. Standard room is not huge but adequate for a one night stop. Room has the usual expected facilities; tea / coffee and tv. Not a lot of storage space but ok for a short stay. Window opens if you want fresh air instead of aircon. Décor around the hotel is very interesting, unusual and a little quirky. Definitely worth having a look around! Restaurant is open all day with a good choice on the menu at very reasonable prices. Meal in the evening was very good. Two fantastic guys work on the bar, Irvin and Oscar, are very friendly and helpful and regularly check that everything is ok and if you need more drinks. No need to walk from the garden to the bar. There is an outdoor pool and a gym in the basement. Good range of food for the buffet breakfast. Check out was quick and efficient but as a Marriott Bonvoy member, it was express service for me. Would certainly use this property again if I needed an airport stopover. NOTE! Do not confuse this hotel with the Protea Transit Hotel which is in the airport complex.From$78

We needed a pleasant place to stay overnight longer than what is available at an airport hotel as our international departure was late afternoon. I chose Sunrock because of airport transfers inclusion, its proximity to the airport and traveller reviews. What a pleasant surprise this place was. Will definitely stay here again, particularly when travelling with family. Nice garden and lovely pool area. The themed bar was a delight, and the dinner (extra), although simple without much choice, was delicious. Good security and very pleasant staff. Whilst some reviewers state they have found it noisy at times from surrounding residences, we did not experience that at all and actually found it to be peaceful, despite some airplane noise during the day (which is to be expected when only 10 minutes from an airport). We chose the honeymoon/double room. It came with an ensuite bathroom which had both a bath and walk in shower.From$66

My husband and I had an excellent overnight stay here on our way to Nelspruit the next morning. The shuttle was prompt, the breakfast convenient. I seem to remember only beer in the honour bar that night? However, our quarters were very suitable and put us in the mood for Kruger Park the following day! We have fond memories and photos of this lodging! AS I am meeting a friend in the RSA next week I booked us two rooms here overnight before heading out once again to Nelspruit. If my return flight had not left from Joburg at a good hour I would stay again before my flight home. We must have come in after the supper hour; I may miss again this trip, unfortunately.From$34

FANTASTIC experience right from the moment I checked in. The hosts are super friendly and helpful, and even drove me to a shop nearby when I needed a SIM card.
The property itself is PERFECT if you need a few days to relax and unwind after a stressful series of flights! The garden is lovingly manicured and even has a pool, which was a nice surprise.
They also have a FREE shuttle service from and to the airport as long as you let them know when you need it. The hotel is only 5 minutes drive from O.R. Tambo airport too, so don't get scammed (like I did) by the airport taxis (they charged me 250 rand for a 5 minute drive!).
The hotel has its own kitchen and menu and will deliver meals to your door, and they also have a small shop with toiletries, etc. which came in handy. WiFi is good too, even for video (definitely better than the airport's!😅).
So, next time you're heading to Johannesburg, definitely book Emerald Hotel. Now I just wish I had booked 5 days instead of one! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻From$25

Wow! I was so impressed with Aerotropolis, from the late-night shuttle service at the airport, to the tired but welcoming host when we arrived, to the nicely appointed rooms...quiet at night with only the very occasional fly-over noise...and then in the morning to discover a lovely green oasis: the plants, the pool, the play area for kids. AND, a sumptuous breakfast included in the price. (Please tip the cook! She deserves it!) My only recommendation is for the owner to consider installing air conditioning units. The windows in the rooms cannot keep it cool enough so it is warm warm in summer! It's a more budget-conscious spot, but absolute value for price. (And it was very booked up with guests, so don't wait until just before you arrive to book.)From$32

The four hotels are composed and linked together to become the Palace Casino. It is quite safe. This time I live because the flight is second. God. So my friends would like to come and try their luck, haha. The room is pretty good. It’s clean. But the bed is small. But it’s enough for me. It’s a problem. Breakfast is quite rich, to be honest. Dominique was an absolute delight to deal with during the booking process, she also helped us with a dinner reservation and airport transfer bookings. Ryan was our host and a great one at that. We had early starts and late nights and he was always there to great us on arrival and departure. We found all staff to be friendly and efficient. The guesthouse itself is very unique, it's so exciting looking around each new area and room. Just beautiful. We loved our stay and would highly recommend.

The room was on the second floor pushing open the door to the balcony, where there were tables and chairs but thick dust. The second stay was very angry 😡, because there was something wrong on the first day of two days, the next day they found that they sold the good room I ordered at a higher price to later people without my consent. I could go to the room where I was almost in, and the hot water in the room was put for 20 minutes before it came out. Will not stay at the inn again. Thanks to Trip.com customer service for its excellent service!

She also hurried me to fill up the check-in form and pressured me to indicate right there in the form if I would need meals as they are pre-ordered. I needed time to think about this well without being rushed. She was suddenly super nice when other guests arrived, even the next day when taking us to the airport where she rushed me to leave at 7:00 am since these important guests were in a hurry to catch an international flight, and yet we had agreed to leave at 7:30am. Surprisingly I had also told her that I am going to Maseru (Lesotho) the previous day, and I reminded her in the car that I am also taking an international flight to Maseru. She looked at me annoyingly and said ”but it's not the same, they are going to Madagascar”. I tried reasoning that yes, we will be using the same terminal and I am taking an international flight too, and these other guests actually joined me in agreement. I felt small, and disrespected, as well as my country. and lukewarm toward me with an obvious bias, and yet she treated other guests super warmly.

I was so impressed with Aerotropolis, from the late-night shuttle service at the airport, to the tired but welcoming host when we arrived, to the nicely appointed rooms...quiet at night with only the very occasional fly-over noise...and then in the morning to discover a lovely green oasis: the plants, the pool, the play area for kids. AND, a sumptuous breakfast included in the price. (Please tip the cook! She deserves it!) My only recommendation is for the owner to consider installing air conditioning units. The windows in the rooms cannot keep it cool enough so it is warm warm in summer! It's a more budget-conscious spot, but absolute value for price. (And it was very booked up with guests, so don't wait until just before you arrive to book.)

After 350M, I have to pay for it myself. I don't adapt to the Internet.

|6.47km from city centerUsed as an over night stop before flight back to London. First suite stank of sewerage, badly scrapped walls, blocked drains and the TV didn't work so i requested to be moved. Apparently upgraded to diplomatic suite but then I did not have a balcony? Huge room suitable for meetings etc but the air con was absolutely terrible and we were boiling hot all night, there was also a tear in the sheets... Guests at 8am the next morning outside were unbelievably noisy and woke us up. Food outside on terrace was excellent served by Lindo who was outstanding but the whole area is REALLY grubby, Cushioned seats need a good scrub and the the marked tables need replacing. It was evident that either friends of employees or employees themselves monopolized the pool whilst playing loud music therefore no space for actual guests. Evening meal was ok but breakfast was excellent, good choice and fresh ingredients. Executive lounge was very well stocked but the people on the door were on their phones on loudspeaker chatting to their friends and just going about their business, so unprofessional!! Spa was fabulous and I have given 1 star for the spa and the food but that's it! I think if someone from head management ever visited this hotel they would be rather shocked!!!

|2.63km from city centerI chose this place because I liked the free pick-up and free breakfast. However, in fact, the last pick-up was at 11 o'clock in the evening. I arrived at the airport at 11 o'clock. I said that the pick-up at night would be charged. I am willing to pay, but I can't come to the arrival floor to pick me up. I can be at the bus station. It is well known. South Africa is naturally in a mess, and the probability of being robbed on the road at night is very high! Finally, I paid for a taxi to their hotel and found that the door was closed! The location of the hotel is very biased, there is no street light at night, the black light is blind, the driver is black, everyone is in the position to think about it, feel panic? I know that the front desk will get off work at 11 o'clock in the evening, but I have already emailed that I will land at 11 o'clock and arrive at 12 o'clock. They know it, but they still don't leave anyone. After waiting for a long time, the driver came back and opened the door. At the beginning, the driver refused to give me the door key and asked me to add 200 rand for the night stay. I don't know the cost. I didn't inform when I placed the order on Trip.com. On the second day, I took the shuttle bus to the airport and there was no time to eat breakfast. An unpleasant stay!

|1.15km from city centerOK, so let's start with the 'not-so-nice stuff'. Look, it is what it is. It's a 3-star (at best), hotel that was converted from apartments into a 'suite' experience hotel. It's cheap as chips, so with that in mind you're obviously not going to expect anything flash. The towels, while clean, could certainly do with being replaced. Overall, a fresh coat of paint would not hurt and the kettle was abysmal - we actually ordered our own kettle from 60/60 - the one in the room had not been descaled in...well, ever. It's very basic accommodation, the telephone in the room didn't work and the extractor above the stove was diabolical. Now, for the good stuff. The staff are AMAZING. So friendly and super helpful, check-in was breezy and even though we arrived a full 2 hours early, we hardly had to wait for our room to be ready. Aside from what I already mentioned, the room itself was SPOTLESS and that made up for the 'niggly' bits. The location is great, just a few minutes from the airport and close to the areas we had business in. Honestly, for what one pays for this place, there are no complaints. You can order from 60/60/ Uber Eats/Mr Delivery and there is a restaurant on site - although we didn't order from them, we left early and came back fairly late so it was just simpler to order in - and they delivered to the room. So all in, if you're not in Jozi for a holiday, then this place is kind of ideal. Internet was fast enough and complimentary and as we literally only used it as a base for our dealings in the big city, it was more than adequate.
