The mountain scenery is beautiful, the cable car ride is enjoyable, and the views over the surrounding peaks are impressive throughout the year. That said, after visiting, I felt that the journey and the mountain atmosphere were the main highlights. Because of its popularity, the resort can get quite busy, especially on weekends and during holidays. I enjoyed spending time in the mountains and taking in the views, but I found some of the less-visited locations around Almaty to be just as memorable. Places farther from the city often offer a quieter experience and a stronger feeling of being surrounded by nature. Overall, I’m glad I visited Shymbulak. It’s an iconic place and a convenient way to experience the mountains without traveling far from Almaty. My recommendation would be to visit on a weekday if possible and enjoy it as part of a broader exploration of the region’s incredible landscapes.
