🗻 Shymbulak is Central Asia's premier all-season resort, nestled in the Trans-Ili Alatau gorge within Almaty city limits. I want to share my experience visiting the resort during the summer of 2026: what to do, how to get there, and what to pack. Summer is a fantastic time to visit the resort, as it transforms into a hotspot for those seeking cool breezes, adventure, and breathtaking views when the city is sweltering. 🟢 The resort area is structured around cable car stations. Main levels: ▫️ Base Station (Medeu): The starting point next to the famous high-altitude ice rink; ▫️ Middle Station: Home to the Alpine Coaster, a rope park, and several cafes; ▫️ Top Station (Combi-2): The main observation deck at an altitude of 3,000 meters. This is where hiking trails and routes begin. 📍 How to get to the resort: It's about 25–30 km from the center of Almaty to the Medeu station: By bus (No. 21, 12) ~150 KZT; By taxi ~3,000 KZT; By private vehicle. After arriving at the Medeu station, you need to choose how to get up to the resort itself. ⚠️ ⚠️⚠️ Important info: From July 24, 2026, to November 30, 2026, the Medeu - Tuyuk Su road is closed for infrastructure upgrades. Therefore, you can get from Medeu to Shymbulak via the following ways: Hiking up; Cable car; Gondola lift. We bought cable car tickets. An adult round-trip ticket costs between 12,000 and 14,000 KZT (~$25 - $30). We got super lucky—no one else bought tickets for our specific fare. So, despite it being rush hour on a weekend, we rode up in a private glass-bottom cabin without paying extra (I talked about this in my previous post). ☀️ So, main activities and areas: First of all, the cable car ride to the top is an experience in itself. It’s a real thrill ride offering views of the gorges, the Trans-Ili Alatau ridges, and alpine meadows; Secondly, trekking and hiking routes—a network of trails of varying difficulty leading to glaciers, mountain ridges, and viewpoints. ☀️ Active recreation and prices: · Horseback riding along mountain trails from 3,000 KZT (~$6.50); · Cycling along designated routes; · Archery at the shooting range from 4,000 KZT (~$8.50). 🍽️ Infrastructure: The resort features summer cafes and restaurants with terraces and panoramic views, with an average bill starting around 5,000 KZT (~$11) per person. ✅ Tips for your visit: 1️⃣ SPF and sunglasses; 2️⃣ A warm windbreaker. Bring a cozy layer because the weather up in the mountains changes rapidly, and the sun is very intense. Even if it's +35°C in the city, the temperature at the top station is significantly cooler; 3️⃣ Comfortable shoes if you plan to wander along the trails and slopes; 4️⃣ Snacks and water, especially if you want to save money on cafes; 5️⃣ You can also bring along a small picnic kit; 6️⃣ There are fewer crowds on weekdays. 🧺 Seasonality · Winter (November–March): Ski season, night skiing. · Summer (June–September): Trekking and family nature getaways. · Spring/Autumn: Off-season. Some facilities might operate on a limited schedule; it's best to check the official website for updates. 🏞️ Overall impression: An amazing way to spend your time—I definitely recommend visiting, and more than once. Fresh air, the majesty of the mountains, and a deep connection with nature. Next time, I’d love to come a bit earlier, pack better layers, and hike the eco-trails all the way up.

⭕️Green Bazaar Huge chunks of meat are sold in a spectacular display. It's fun just watching them butcher the large chunks with knives. There's also a good selection of fruits, dried fruits, and nuts. ⭕️Zenkov Church It's amazing that it was built without a single nail. Many devout believers gathered for the service. Everyone held a candle flame. Some were even seen kissing the portraits. ⭕️Central Mosque Two people in a tranquil space. One was praying, the other napping. It was certainly cooler than the hot outside. Perhaps it also functions as a place of rest. ⭕️Hopers Bar The IPA had a strong malty flavor but was easy to drink. Slightly fruity. The price was 2,300 tenge. #ZenkovChurch

In Almaty, even the view from the airport is an attraction in itself 🏔️✈️ To be honest: most airports look pretty dull—just concrete, terminals, and planes. But Almaty completely breaks the mold! When you arrive in this city, you're immediately struck by an incredible contrast: the airport is located just a couple of kilometers from the majestic Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. If you're flying out on a clear day, get ready for a view that will absolutely blow your mind! Watching planes take off and land against the backdrop of massive mountain peaks looks straight out of a movie. 🏔️ The Almaty terminal (Almaty International Airport: 578/1 Seifullin Ave, Almaty; open 24/7) isn't just a transit hub, it's practically an observation deck. Grab a coffee, take a seat by the window, and just soak in the moment. You have to admit, it's not every day you find a spot where the panoramic view is an attraction in its own right. 😍 Pro tip: If you're ever in Almaty, snag a window seat overlooking the runway (especially at sunrise or sunset!) and get your phone ready—the content for your stories will be absolutely top-tier. 📸 P.S. The cableway will take you to the highest point of the resort — 3,200 m.
