My Bali Winterescape: A Week of Sun, Sea, and Serenity
As the winter gloom tightened its grip back home, my escape to Bali felt less like a holiday and more like a rebirth.
The Adrenaline Rush: Tandem Parascending at Nusa Dua
My quest for thrill began at Nusa Dua Beach. The parasailing here isn’t just a ride; it’s a perspective shift. Strapped into a tandem parachute, my companion and I were gently lifted off the deck of a speedboat. As we soared, the world fell away into a breathtaking panorama. The ride was unexpectedly peaceful, a silent ballet with the wind, punctuated only by the sound of my own heart beating with joy. It was the perfect, exhilarating start.
The Day-to-Night Playground: FINNS Recreation Club
If you think Bali is only about temples and tranquility, FINNS will rewrite that notion. Dubbed the "World’s Best Beach Club," it’s a universe of its own. I spent an entire day here, bouncing between experiences. The swim-up bar in the main pool is legendary, where making new friends over a Bintang or a tropical cocktail is inevitable.
Bali is a paradise for foodies. My taste buds embarked on their own adventure:
· Warungs: The heart of Balinese cuisine. I had my best meal at a humble family-run warung in Ubud: Suckling Pig (Babi Guling). The crackling skin, tender meat, spiced vegetables, and fragrant rice is a symphony of flavor I still dream about.
· Smoothie Bowls & Coffee: Every morning started with a vibrant, Instagram-worthy smoothie bowl from a Canggu cafe, packed with local dragon fruit and mango. The local coffee, Kopi Bali, strong and aromatic, was my daily fuel.
· Seafood Feast: At Jimbaran Bay, I dined with my feet in the sand. Grilled red snapper, calamari, and giant prawns, all freshly caught and smothered in fiery sambal, served as the sun dipped below the horizon. Pure magic.

Jimbaran Beach
Do you like delicious food? We do. So let's start with the edibles.
1. Fruit.
No comment here. Tropical fruits are abundant here, and they're delicious.
2. Coffee.
They grow both Arabica (in the higher mountains) and Robusta (closer to the plains). They sell it whole beans and very finely ground, as the Balinese often steep their coffee in boiling water rather than boiling it.
Luwak coffee stands out, considered one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
The coffee beans are fed to the civet, and supposedly acquire a special flavor when they pass through the animal's intestines. Incidentally, one such wild animal lived on the roof of our guesthouse and stole food from the staff kitchen.
3. Chocolate. Delicious, but not cheap. There are many unusual combinations for our eyes and tastes: with pepper, mint, salt, and cloves.
4. Sauces and spices.
We bought a sauce for our favorite dish, nasi goreng. It's called kecap manis. It's nothing like ketchup; it's a thick, sweet soy sauce. Speaking of ketchup, my husband brought chili and mango ketchup.
5. Essential oils, coconut oil, scrubs, soaps, and other delicious-smelling things.
6. Rattan
There are many large rattan items in Ubud: decor, chairs, and bassinets. In the areas near the ocean, smaller decor items or woven rattan bags are popular.
6. Decorative items made from whatever comes to hand. Balinese people also use shells, rope, bamboo, wood, and coral.
7. Lingam.
Yes, a separate item. In tourist areas, the large number of phalluses on the roadside stalls is striking. Large, small, colorful, carved. They can be simple souvenirs, keychains, bottle openers, or soap. They are a symbol of wealth and fertility.
8. Silver jewelry. The village of Cheluke is especially popular for this, as they are made there. But silver shops are also common in other cities.
We don't like to lug around our purchases, so we didn't even have to buy an extra suitcase. Our refrigerator at home is built-in—there's no room to hang magnets, and we have enough stuff to lug around at the airport. A couple of packs of coffee, a few decorative items, and essential oils—that's all we took home from Bali. Of course, in addition to the many incredible experiences!
What do you bring back from your trips?

▫️ Morning = fewer people and better light
▫️ SPF is a must
