The altitude was certainly challenging for me, but in China, every cafe and hotel has free oxygen stations. There are always rest stations between cities with restrooms and shops with city-like prices. So, even visiting Base Camp was easy. Tibet - The Best Destination in China Before a trip to Tibet, it's best to adjust to a different rhythm right away. This isn't about speed and checking off the itinerary. It's about adaptation, patience, and respect for the altitude. Acclimatization is everything. Don't fly straight to Lhasa from the plains. Stay in Chengdu or Xining for a couple of days to let your body adjust to the thinner air. On the first day, don't run or climb high, eat little by little, and drink water even if you don't feel thirsty. If you feel a headache or a heavy chest, don't tolerate it, lie down, and turn on oxygen. Every hotel has it; this is normal, not a sign of weakness. Prepare your documents in advance. You can't enter Tibet on your own—you need a Tibet Travel Permit, which can only be issued by an accredited agency. You can contact Eastogotravel. Pack your things in layers. It's freezing in the morning, and the afternoon sun is so scorching that your skin turns red within an hour. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or bandana are essential. Shoes should be worn in, not new. Bring a power bank, wet wipes, and a basic first aid kit with painkillers and motion sickness medication. Keep cash yuan with you: away from the cities, payment terminals and phone service are spotty. And be prepared. Tibet doesn't like fuss. If the day is tough, cancel your plans and rest. The locals have lived this way for decades; they don't rush. Try to do the same. Breathe more slowly, look around, and don't try to cram everything into one itinerary.
