Taikoo Li in Chengdu always has something delicious, from Sichuan classics to more sophisticated options, and even Western cuisine. We were delighted 🥰 Here are a few places we've been to and can confidently recommend: Tao Tao Ju This is a well-known restaurant brand, its history dating back to 1880, and several of its branches are included in the Michelin Guide. The interior is traditional Lingnan style with modern touches. We, of course, tried the famous dim sum, the signature duck, and the delicious pork with pineapple and vegetables. Blue Frog This establishment has a more Western, casual atmosphere; we had breakfast there. They serve American cuisine in a casual dining style. Chengdu Restaurant This establishment is included in the Michelin Guide Chengdu 2026 The menu, based on traditional Cantonese lines, spiced with Sichuan touches, was the main highlight of Chengdu Restaurant. The concept is built around reimagining local cuisine: the chef doesn't rely on "that" street food spiciness, but rather assembles dishes in tasting sets with an emphasis on the balance of flavors, textures, and seasonality. The presentation exudes a distinct "quiet luxury" aesthetic: minimal decor, clean lines, neutral-toned tableware, and the focus is on the dish itself. Besides the delicious food, the magnificent interior with pendant lamps and a perforated brass wall adds another highlight that enhances the dining experience. Song Cafe This cafe is unlike many others; it's sophisticated and atmospheric, with fresh flowers everywhere, and, of course, delicious dessert rolls! It's not just a flat rooftop, but an entire outdoor sculpture garden (Chengdu IFS Sculpture Garden) complete with relaxation zones and observation decks—all in the open air! The main highlight is the massive "I Am Here" panda sculpture. While its body can be seen from the street below, you can get an up-close look at its head by stepping right up to it on the 7th-floor observation deck. The terrace offers sweeping panoramic views of the city and its surroundings, including the bustling Chunxi Road pedestrian street. The sunset here is especially stunning. A variety of artworks by contemporary artists are scattered throughout the garden. It's an awesome spot with its own unique vibe and charm. You can soak it all in and enjoy a relaxing stroll on the roof absolutely any time. 🥰

Imagine you have just one full day in Chengdu. Not a quick layover for a few hours, nor a week-long vacation, but exactly one free day that you want to spend relaxing, without rushing, fully soaking in the city's vibe. During our time in Chengdu, we stayed at the Dorsett Chengdu. In my opinion, it's one of the best options for value and quality. The hotel is located right next to the Luomashi subway station, making it super easy to get to most attractions by subway or on foot. Below is the itinerary we put together for ourselves, which we comfortably completed in a single day. 10. 00–11:30 - 🐼 Chunxi Road and IFS Chengdu I recommend starting your day at Chengdu's main pedestrian street, Chunxi Road. This is where you'll find the famous panda that looks like it's climbing onto the roof of the IFS Chengdu building, along with the massive 3D billboard you've probably seen all over social media. Inside the building, there's a huge shopping mall (shopaholics will definitely appreciate this), and up on the roof, you can see the face of that exact panda. Besides that, there's a small park and a cozy cafe selling panda-shaped cookies and coffee. The street isn't huge, so an hour and a half is plenty of time to take a leisurely stroll, snap some photos, and soak in the downtown atmosphere. 11. 45–13:00 - ⛩️Daci Temple and Taikoo Li About a 15-minute walk away is the ancient Daci Temple, built way back in the 3rd to 4th centuries. This is one of those places where the contrast between old and new China is especially striking: an ancient temple literally surrounded by modern skyscrapers. Be sure to check out all the temple pavilions—each one is interesting in its own way. Just remember that taking photos inside the shrines is prohibited; photography is only allowed on the complex grounds. After visiting the temple, take a walk through Taikoo Li—one of Chengdu's most beautiful shopping districts. Even if you're not into shopping, it's worth stopping by just for the unique architecture that blends traditional Chinese style with modern retail stores. 13:30–15:00 - 🍵People’s Park From Taikoo Li, the easiest way to get to one of the city's most famous parks, People's Park, is by taking a DiDi. Despite being located right in the center of Chengdu, the park has an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. Think duck ponds, lush greenery, retirees playing cards and mahjong, and the famous teahouses where you can order authentic Chinese tea and... snack on sunflower seeds. Yes, that's exactly how many locals spend their free time. 15:30–16:30 - 🏛️Old District and Lunch Next, head to the Wenshu Monastery subway station. This is the perfect time to take a break and try some authentic Sichuan cuisine. My top pick is the famous eatery Dongzikou Zhang Lao’er Liangfen. After all, you didn't come to Chengdu to eat at McDonald’s, right? I highly recommend trying the Dan Dan Noodles and Zhong Dumplings—they are among the most famous Sichuan dishes. 17. 00–18:15 - 👺Face-Changing Opera Located on the grounds of Wenshu Monastery is the Liyuan Guild Hall, which hosts performances of the famous Sichuan face-changing opera. We bought our tickets in advance on Trip.com. There are several shows a day, so you can pick a time that works best for you. I suggest paying a little extra for VIP seats. You'll be closer to the stage, and the ticket price includes tea and light snacks like nuts or seeds. The show itself lasts a little over an hour and turned out to be much more entertaining than I expected. In addition to the famous face-changing, there are other traditional acts for the audience to enjoy. 18. 30–20:00 - 🎋SKP Chengdu and Glowing Bamboo Next stop: Financial City subway station, home to SKP Chengdu. Yes, it's another shopping mall... but a very unusual one. It feels more like an entire underground city. Nearby is a small park featuring the famous glowing bamboo installation that you've likely seen on Instagram or TikTok. It's best to come here after sunset—that's when the lights turn on and the place looks its absolute best. It's lovely to just walk around, take beautiful photos, or relax a bit after a busy day. 20:30–21:30 - 🌃Chengdu Twin Towers The final stop on the itinerary is the Chengdu Twin Towers. You can get here on foot or by DiDi. The towers are impressive not only for their height but also for their illumination, with lights forming massive animated pictures. At night, they transform into a spectacular light show. If you get lucky with the day of the week or if there are no holidays, you might catch a full light show at 21:00. Summary: In my opinion, this turned out to be an excellent itinerary where modern Chengdu harmoniously blends with ancient temples, cozy parks, and traditional culture. I deliberately left out iconic spots like Wuhou Shrine, Anshun Bridge, Jinli Street, and, of course, the Panda Park. It's simply impossible to fit all of that into one day. Therefore, my main advice is to visit Chengdu for at least a few days. This city truly deserves to be explored without rushing. And its surrounding attractions—the Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei, and other spots—only make you want to come back again and again.
