A day on a guided tour of Rapa Nui, swaying and bumping in a minibus 🚐 📍First stop: Rano Raraku (Quarry) This is where the Moai were born! 🗿 It turns out that all the statues on the island were carved directly from this volcanic rock, and then transported to the beach after completion. Learned a few interesting facts: · Moai don't just have heads; they also have complete bodies (some are even kneeling). · Many unfinished statues lay in the quarry, as if a factory had suddenly stopped operating. · The craftsmen used basalt hammers, chipping them out bit by bit. 📍Second stop: Ahu Tongariki (15 Moai statues in the bay) This is the largest group of Moai on the island, 15 statues lined up in a row, back to the sea, facing the village. The story of their restoration is also touching: the 1960 tsunami devastated the area, and later a Japanese company helped with the restoration, which took five years. Standing before them was truly awe-inspiring, not the kind of "wow, so big!" awe, but the silent weight of "they've stood here for a thousand years." 📍Third Stop: Rano Kau Volcano + Orongo Birdman Village The last stop on the tour was Rano Kau Volcano, located on the southwest corner of the island. 🌋 This is a massive collapsed crater, over a kilometer in diameter. Despite the intense heat, the view was breathtaking—a vast volcanic lake on one side, and the endless Pacific Ocean on the other. The entrances to the 53 low stone houses in the village are narrow, requiring you to bend over to squeeze in. Rock carvings depict human-shaped bird heads, the symbol of the Tangata Manu (Birdman). Below the cliff lies the small island of Motu Nui. Standing on the windless, sun-drenched edge of the volcano's crater, looking down, it's hard to imagine anyone daring to jump into that sea. After the Moai era ended, this became the island's center of power until the arrival of missionaries. 🍽️ In ​​the evening, I ducked into a small restaurant by the sea. I ordered a plate of tuna dumplings and chilled Pisco Sour🍹 🌅 Iorana~ The sunset here was breathtaking, even the dumplings were mesmerized.
