If you’re visiting the Netherlands this winter, don’t miss the Royal Christmas Fair in The Hague, happening December 4–23 at the beautiful Lange Voorhout.
This festive market is a dream for food lovers and holiday explorers alike! You can taste your way through Europe—from warm pretzels 🥨 and mulled wine 🍷 to a unique stand selling rum and chocolate 🍫. One absolute must-try is the classic Dutch treat poffertjes—tiny, fluffy pancakes that are warm, sweet, and perfect for chilly weather 🥞🥰
You’ll also find English pies, scones, and desserts, making it a truly international Christmas market.
This was my first Christmas market in Europe, and it was such a magical experience! I even spotted Sinterklaas 🎅🏼—the Dutch version of Santa Claus, who plays a big role in local Christmas traditions.
✨ Whether you’re here for the food, festive vibes, or cultural experience, the Royal Christmas Fair is a highlight of any winter itinerary in the Netherlands.

Mauritshuis Museum
Often overlooked in favor of Amsterdam, The Hague (Den Haag) is a city of unexpected contrasts — royal palaces and surfboards, Vermeer masterpieces and street art, embassies and beach clubs. It’s the kind of place where you can tour a museum in the morning and have your feet in the sand by afternoon.
📍 Where Is The Hague?
Located on the western coast of the Netherlands, The Hague is just 50 minutes by train from Amsterdam and 30 minutes from Rotterdam. It’s easy to reach and even easier to fall in love with.
🏛️ What Is The Hague Known For?
The Hague is the political capital of the Netherlands and the seat of the Dutch monarchy — but it’s far from stiff. The city is known for:
• The International Court of Justice (Peace Palace)
• Royal palaces and embassies
• World-class museums
• Its long sandy beach in Scheveningen
• A rich mix of architecture, from medieval to ultra-modern
It’s both sophisticated and surprisingly chill.
🎨 What to See and Do
🏰 Binnenhof & The Ridderzaal
The heart of Dutch politics — explore the Gothic courtyard, take a tour, or just admire the views over the Hofvijver lake.
🖼️ Mauritshuis Museum
Home to Girl with a Pearl Earring and other Dutch Golden Age masterpieces. Small but spectacular.
🌍 Peace Palace
A symbol of international law and diplomacy. You can visit the visitor center or book a tour of the majestic interior.
🌊 Scheveningen Beach
Surf, stroll, or sip cocktails with your toes in the sand. The pier has a Ferris wheel and bungee jumping for the brave.
🔍 Street Art in The Hague
From giant murals to hidden alley pieces — the city has a vibrant and growing urban art scene.
🍽️ Where to Eat and Drink
The Hague is a melting pot of flavors, reflecting its international population.
• Little V – Modern Vietnamese with lush decor and bold cocktails
• Bøg – Elegant Nordic cuisine, seasonal and surprising
• Simonis aan de Haven – The go-to spot for fresh seafood by the water
• De Resident – A cozy pub for Dutch classics and good beer
And don’t leave without trying haring (raw herring) like a local!
⏰ Practical Tips for Visiting
• 🚲 Rent a bike — it’s the Dutch way
• 🏨 Stay central to be close to both culture and coast
• 🎫 Museums often have combo tickets or free days — check online
• 🚋 Trams are efficient and easy to use for reaching Scheveningen
• 💬 English is widely spoken, so don’t worry about language barriers
✨ Why Visit The Hague?
Because it’s the Netherlands — with a twist. In The Hague, you can step into a Vermeer painting, walk past royalty, hear 10 languages on the street, and watch the sun set into the North Sea — all in a single day. If you’re looking for a city that’s cultured, coastal, and full of surprises, The Hague delivers.

Noordeinde Palace
The Hague is just an easy train ride away from popular spots like Amsterdam, Leiden, and Rotterdam, making it the perfect destination for a day trip!
What makes The Hague two unique is its location: think city vibe, sandy beach, and green nature; all rolled into one. If you’re looking for a day that's got a little bit of everything, you’re in the right place! 🙂↕️🙂↕️
Here’s how to spend your day like a local:
Start Your Day Early ☀️
Hop off the train and fuel up with a killer coffee at The Bookstor Cafe (Noordeinde). This is a cafe in a bookstore which makes this spot is SO cozy.
City Center Discovery 🏙️
Wander through my favorite historic streets: Haagse Bluf, Noordeinde, and Oude Molstraat. Quirky charm, cute boutiques, and vintage shops.
Royal Sighting 👑
While exploring, check out Noordeinde Palace. It’s one of the Dutch King's official working palaces. The gardens outside are great for a quick visit when the weather allows!
Seaside Escape 🌅
Next, head out to Scheveningen. Choose between a zen walk in Westbroekpark (especially in spring) or step right onto the sandy beaches. Scheveningen Beach is famous for its pier, beach bars, and atmosphere.
Tips for a Great Day:
- If you’re coming in summer, pack sunscreen and a light jacket (Dutch weather can switch up fast!).
- Local trams and busses can bring you to Scheveningen in no time
- Scheveningen’s restaurants have great fresh seafood
There is always something for everyone in The Hague!

The PeacePalace in the Netherlands is the International Court of Justice that everyone has heard of. It is a very solemn place. When you take a photo from the outside, it looks like a messenger of justice. The atmosphere is very different.
Parliament, The Hague is the location of the overall administrative center of the Netherlands. Police, guards, etc. can be seen everywhere. Some places cannot be entered randomly.
In Holland Park, you can see a whole row of straight trees and straight roads everywhere. It is really suitable for hiking, running, and cycling👍

#mediterraneanvibes When you think of the Netherlands, you probably imagine tulip fields, windmills, and cozy canals. But visit in summer, and you’ll discover a whole new side of the country, one that feels surprisingly Mediterranean. From sandy beaches and sun-drenched terraces to endless bike rides under blue skies, the Netherlands in summer is a revelation. #postandearn
I planned my trip with Trip.com, booking flights into Amsterdam and charming boutique hotels in coastal towns. It turned out to be one of the best summer adventures I’ve ever had in Europe.
Why it feels so different?
Long, warm days and a laid-back atmosphere transform the country. Outdoor cafes are buzzing, locals head to the beaches, and even the canals feel more alive with boats and people soaking up the sun.
The vibe is so relaxed you might forget you’re in northern #europe and not somewhere along the #mediterranean coast.
