#January Destinations 2026 When visiting Tokachi-Obihiro, Hokkaido's "Agricultural Kingdom," don't miss the vibrant and welcoming yatai (street food stall) culture at night. Unlike the crowded and cold atmosphere of Tokyo or Osaka, Obihiro's yatai possess a unique "northern warmth," making you want to crawl behind a warm curtain and share a drink with strangers even in sub-zero temperatures. 🏮 Two Shining Stars: Kita no Yatai & Tokachi no Nagaya Obihiro's most famous yatai district consists of two adjacent streets: • Kita no Yatai: The originator of Obihiro's yatai, featuring about 20 unique shops. Here you'll find not only skewers and ramen, but also surprising French cuisine, Italian dishes, and even game (such as Ezo venison). • Tokachi no Nagaya: With a nostalgic style, about 20 shops line a wooden walkway, offering more authentic Japanese izakaya cuisine, fried skewers, and local sake. ❄️ Travel Experience: Warm Light and Laughter on a Snowy Night • Vibrant Life: On winter nights, these two streets are illuminated by warm orange lights. People in thick down jackets weave through the narrow alleys, the crunch of snow under their feet mingling with the sounds of clinking glasses and laughter emanating from the shops, creating a lively background soundscape. • The Magic of Small Spaces: Each stall typically seats only 8-10 people. This "forced" sense of intimacy allows strangers to easily strike up conversations with local farmers and office workers. When the proprietress hands you a steaming bowl of pork miso soup, the feeling of being accepted and belonging is something large chain restaurants can't provide. • A Winter Haven: Although the wind is biting cold outside, lifting the heavy winter curtain instantly reveals a warm, cozy interior, enveloped by the warmth of the heating and fire. The moment your glasses fog up is the happiest moment of your trip. 🍽️ Must-Try Recommendations: Gifts of Tokachi • Tokachi Butadon: The soul of Obihiro, glistening, slightly charred pork slices coated in a sweet and savory sauce. Enjoying it at a street stall adds a touch of rustic charm. • French Street Food: Recommended restaurants include Marionne, which uses fresh milk, potatoes, and cheese from Tokachi to create exquisite French cuisine. Paired with red wine, the contrast is incredibly appealing. • Gibier: Ezo venison, available only in winter, is tender and free of any gamey taste—a rare delicacy unique to Hokkaido. • Tokachi Sake: Don't forget to order a glass of the local "Tokachi Haru" sake; its refreshing taste is a perfect match for rich meat dishes. 🚌 Transportation and Basic Information • Location: 10-chome, Minami 1-jo, Obihiro City (two streets apart) • Access: Approximately a 5-minute walk from JR Obihiro Station. • Business Hours: Generally 17:00 – 24:00 (Closed on different days depending on the establishment; most are closed on Sundays or Mondays). • Payment Suggestions: While some establishments accept credit cards, cash or PayPay is the most common and convenient payment method in the yatai (traditional Japanese restaurant) area. #ObihiroYata #KitanoYata #TokachiNagaya #ObihiroTourism #HokkaidoFood #TokachiButaDonburi #MidnightDiner #NipponYata #HokkaidoWinter #NightOfLove

Richmond Hotel Obihiro Ekimae
This trip was originally just a stop in Obihiro during our road trip. I was surprised to find that both the accommodation and the food were so satisfying 👍 First, the accommodation: The Richmond Hotel, right next to Obihiro Station. The hotel's interior design is stunning, and the lobby and second-floor lounge areas are very comfortable 👍. The breakfast was surprisingly generous and each item was thoughtfully prepared. We'll definitely be back next time. As for food: The ramen restaurants and izakayas nearby are both excellent in quality and value, and well worth a try. Unfortunately, I had to rush off to the Three Lakes of Eastern Hokkaido the next morning. Next time, I'll definitely plan an extra day to fully experience life in Obihiro. ❤️

Kofuku Station, which became a nationwide sensation in the 1970s with the catchphrase "From the Land of Love to Happiness," is now preserved as a park. The wooden station building, unchanged from that time, stands quietly. The aged wooden walls are covered with countless business cards and tickets left by visitors, forming layers of wishes for happiness. Despite the sub-zero temperatures, a tourist bus arrived to visit this charming spot. 📍 Location: Kofuku-cho Higashi 1-sen 161, Obihiro City, Hokkaido 🗓️ Travel Information: Parking for 36 vehicles, free of charge By car: About 30 minutes from central Obihiro City By bus: Take the Tokachi Bus bound for "Hiroo" and get off at "Kofuku," then walk about 5 minutes.
Remains of Kofuku Train Station
When visiting Obihiro, Hokkaido, don't miss this small attraction steeped in meaning and story: Shiawasekiki Station. Formerly a small station on the Hiroo Line, it ceased operations in 1987. However, its charming and endearing name, "Shiawasekiki," has made it a romantic destination for couples, travelers, and photography enthusiasts. 📍 Location and Access: Shiawasekiki Station is located in the southern suburbs of Obihiro City, approximately a 20-minute drive from downtown. For those traveling by public transportation, we recommend taking a bus from Obihiro Station bound for Taisho or Tadarai, getting off at the "Shiawasekiki" stop, and then walking about 10 minutes to reach the station. For those traveling by car, there's a parking lot adjacent to the park, making it very conveniently accessible. 🏠 Facility Design and Landscape Features: The station is designed in a retro wooden cabin style. Although trains no longer operate, the station's former charm remains. Set against the backdrop of Hokkaido's vast natural scenery, it evokes a tranquil and warm sense of nostalgia. A highlight are the tickets and messages inscribed with blessings hanging throughout the station. Visitors can purchase commemorative tickets symbolizing happiness, or handwrite their wishes and hang them on the station walls for good luck. ❤️ The Romantic Symbolism of Kofuku Station: This station, once known as "Kokumiku Happiness" alongside "Kokumiku Station," was a popular dual station complex, symbolizing the path from "patriotism" to "happiness." It became a popular backdrop for wedding photos and couples' dates, and remains a classic in Japanese regional station tourism. Whether you're seeking romance, photo opportunities, or a quiet journey of prayer, Kofuku Station is definitely worth adding to your Obihiro itinerary and a cherished Hokkaido memory. #Obihiro #Hokkaido #Must-Visit
Kofuku eki
Traveling to Obihiro, Hokkaido, my first stop after landing was Happiness Station! Although the sky was slightly overcast and rainy, it added a touch of tranquility, making for exceptionally atmospheric photos. Happiness Station itself is a small, nostalgic attraction, incredibly conveniently located just a 15-minute drive from the airport—perfect for starting your journey right after landing! Besides the wooden plaque wall covered in heart-shaped stickers, the most captivating aspect of Happiness Station is the abandoned locomotive and old-fashioned buildings outside, adorned with flowers. The entire space exudes a subtle Showa-era feel, creating a sense of stepping back in time. Even on a cloudy day, it's incredibly photogenic, a truly therapeutic experience for both taking pictures and strolling! I recommend bringing some props—stick a heart-shaped sticker and take a photo with the blessings on the wooden plaques—instantly boosting your happiness level! Highlights of the Trip—Happiness Station Attractions: 1. Heart-Shaped Wooden Plaque Wall: Covered with small wooden plaques and colorful heart-shaped stickers, carrying the blessings and wishes of every traveler. 1. Buy a wooden plaque on-site and write down your little wish. 2. Abandoned Locomotive: A must-visit for railway enthusiasts. Nostalgic and with a touch of hipster charm, paired with a sea of flowers and old station sheds, every photo has a story to tell. 3. Flower Field Photo Spot: Different flowers bloom around the station throughout the year, with spring and summer being the most vibrant. Stroll along the edge of the flower fields and experience the slow pace of life in this northern town. 4. Distant View of the Small House Building: It has the feel of a secluded little station, especially on rainy days, adding a touch of romance and creating a cinematic feel! 📍 Attraction Information Recap: ・Kuaifu Station (幸福駅) Address: Higashi 1 Line, Kuaifu-cho, Obihiro City, Hokkaido Opening Hours: Open all year round, free entry and exit, so you generally don't need to worry about missing opening hours. Useful Tips: - Recommended to go directly after landing to avoid crowds and enjoy a peaceful retreat. - Don't worry about rainy days; the heart-shaped stickers and wooden plaque wall on-site are perfect for taking atmospheric photos. - Comfortable, waterproof shoes are recommended, as the outdoor areas can occasionally get muddy; lightweight gear is especially suitable for taking photos. - For those interested in participating in activities or purchasing souvenirs, the on-site shop sells limited-edition wooden plaques and simple merchandise. Transportation Guide: - From Obihiro Airport, it's about a 15-minute taxi ride to Kokoro Station, making it easily accessible. - For a more in-depth exploration of Obihiro, consider renting a car. Other popular nearby attractions, such as Aidin Station, can also be visited along the way. Food Tips: - Dining options around the station are limited. Consider buying some snacks beforehand at the airport or in the city center, or bring your favorite light meals for a picnic. - There are many cafes and dessert shops near Monclay. After Kokoro Station, you can head to the city center for a Hokkaido-style dairy afternoon tea. In summary, Kokoro Station is a heartwarming little station perfect for starting your trip, surrounded by flowers and wishing plaques; even on a less-than-ideal day, it still has a unique charm. Whether traveling alone or with friends, you can find your "happy memories" here.
