We stumbled upon it by pure chance while looking for a reprieve from the scorching sun, and what was meant to be a quick stop turned into a two-hour escape. This place is a true tropical sanctuary where time seems to slow down. The main attraction at Ma Doo Bua is the massive pond filled with Victoria amazonica—giant water lilies. Their leaves can grow to over two meters in diameter, creating a surreal landscape that looks like something straight out of a movie. The pond is surrounded by wooden walkways, cozy gazebos, and a café nestled in lush greenery, making it a joy to explore even in the heat. As we enjoyed our dessert and iced coffee, we watched professional photoshoots taking place. Models in flowing dresses posed in a small boat amidst the lilies, while photographers captured shots from both the shore and the sky with drones. It looked like a high-fashion magazine spread. We hadn't booked a photoshoot in advance, so all the slots were already taken. However, that didn't dampen our experience at all. Even simple phone photos turned out incredibly beautiful thanks to the stunning natural backdrop and unique atmosphere. Good to Know You might see photos online that make it look like people are sitting directly on the giant lily pads. In reality, visitors aren't allowed to sit or stand on the leaves. Special platforms are used during professional shoots to protect the plants. Guests are welcome to admire the lilies and take photos beside them. This careful approach helps keep this amazing spot beautiful for everyone. How to Book a Drone Photoshoot If you're dreaming of those iconic aerial shots, here’s what you need to know: 📸 Booking — On-site only on the day of your visit. No online reservations. 💰 Cost — Photo packages start at around 500 THB. After visiting Phuket many times, I've realized that the best way to enjoy an island getaway is to simply relax and take things slow. There's no need to chase the sunrise or cram your schedule with tourist attractions every day. Just sleep in, enjoy the ocean breeze, go for a dip, and take a leisurely evening stroll by the beach. This time around, I stayed in an affordable private pool villa in Karon. I wasn't expecting much, but it completely blew me away 🌴 I've always preferred the laid-back vibe of Karon over the hustle and bustle of Patong. The hotel is just a short walk from the beach, with convenience stores and supermarkets nearby. The night market, fruit stands, and a variety of local Thai restaurants are just about a ten-minute walk away. You're close to all the action, yet the villa remains a peaceful sanctuary. The entire property is tucked away in lush tropical greenery, featuring low-rise buildings, sun-dappled foliage, shaded pools, and lounge chairs scattered all around. It doesn't boast artificial luxury; instead, it captures the authentic Phuket I fondly remember—humid, vibrant, and effortlessly charming. For this trip, I booked a private pool villa. The room was perfectly dry... exceptionally clean, and comfortable, with vibrant greenery right at my doorstep. The hotel also offers several large public swimming pools. When the midday heat peaks, you can cool off in the water and then head out for a walk once the sun dials it down a bit. The on-site restaurant serves both Thai and Italian cuisines, and breakfast features buffet and continental options. While I wouldn't say the restaurant is the sole reason to stay here, the variety is definitely a huge plus. Enjoying a slow, lazy breakfast after sleeping in perfectly matches the island's rhythm. ✅ A Snapshot of My Stay Check-in was a breeze—just hand over your passport. The moment you sit down, you're greeted with a refreshing cold towel and iced lemon tea. The public areas are incredibly spacious. Luckily, getting around is super convenient with shuttle buggies available; you can even flag down an empty one on the pathways. The staff is incredibly friendly, and everything flows at a wonderfully relaxed pace. If you're hunting for a budget-friendly hotel in Phuket that still delivers a premium, relaxing vacation experience, I'd say this spot offers serious bang for your buck.
