Sanya Atlantis Lost Chambers Aquarium
If you think you've seen cool aquariums before—think again! Lost Chambers at the Atlantis Sanya hotel is on a whole different level. I spent almost two hours there and couldn't tear myself away. It's not just aquariums behind glass; it's an entire underwater labyrinth with a legend about Atlantis. Here's all the details! What it is: Lost Chambers is a massive aquarium styled as the ruins of the sunken city of Atlantis. Imagine walking through dimly lit corridors surrounded by ancient columns, statues, and 'ruins,' with giant aquariums filled with thousands of fish, rays, sharks, and other marine creatures all around you. The atmosphere is mystical, and the lighting makes you feel like you're truly at the bottom of the ocean. Practical information: The aquarium is located within the Atlantis Sanya hotel in the Haitang Bay area. Opening hours: daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (last entry at 9:30 PM). Admission: approximately 198 RMB for adults, 158 RMB for children (1-1.4m tall), and free for kids under 1 meter. Hotel guests enjoy unlimited access. How to get there: If you're not staying at the hotel, take a taxi (about 40 minutes from downtown Sanya, costing 70-90 RMB). The aquarium entrance is through the hotel's main lobby; follow the signs for 'The Lost Chambers.' What's inside: The aquarium consists of 21 themed chambers connected by underwater tunnels and passages. The total water volume exceeds 13 million liters! It houses around 86,000 marine animals of 280 species. My favorite zones: • Ambassador Lagoon — the largest aquarium with a panoramic tunnel. Here you'll see massive eagle rays, nurse sharks, and groupers as big as a person! I spent about 20 minutes just sitting on a bench and watching. • Jellyfish Zone — a separate room with lighting where dozens of jellyfish of various species float. It's incredibly mesmerizing and perfect for photos. • Seahorse and Sea Dragon Room — tiny, delicate creatures. They're hard to spot, but once you do, it's pure delight! Interactive features and highlights: • Shark and ray feedings take place daily at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM—it's a captivating sight! Divers descend directly into the aquarium. • Photo zones against the backdrop of 'Atlantis ruins'—the pictures turn out stunning. What I liked: The aquarium is truly massive and meticulously designed. It's not just fish behind glass; it's a whole story, atmosphere, and emotions. I love marine life, and this was a real immersion (in every sense!). It's clear the animals are well cared for—they're active, healthy, and the water is crystal clear. What I didn't like: On weekends and holidays, it can get very crowded, especially with Chinese tour groups—they're noisy and take up all the best photo spots. Another issue: the signage inside isn't always clear; I ended up walking in circles and revisiting the same zones a couple of times. Combo tickets: If you plan to visit both the aquarium and the water park, get a combo ticket—it’s cheaper. My verdict: Definitely a must-visit in Sanya! Even if you're not a fan of marine life, the atmosphere of the sunken city and the scale of the aquarium will impress you. Who has already been to Lost Chambers? Which zone did you like the most? 🐙

Sanya enjoys a tropical climate, hence it is warm all four seasons and is one of the cities where the sun shines nearly 300 days of the year. But being in the tropics also means that Sanya has wet and dry seasons too. Summer is the wet season, with chances of typhoons, so remember to take rainwear with you. The hottest month is June, with an average temperature of around 28 ℃ (82 °F), but on some days, it could rise to 36 ℃ (97 °F). While warm weather remains throughout the winter months, the coldest months are January and February, but the average temperature still remains around 20 ℃ (68 °F). It is worth noting that in the winter months, the sea can be pretty cold in the mornings and evenings.Because of Sanya’s mild and pleasant winter weather, the best time and peak season to visit is between September and February. While the rest of China, especially up in the north where it is below zero and often covered in snow, Sanya’s tropical climate is particularly alluring. During this time, hotels are usually packed and it is difficult to reserve rooms. This is definitely the case during the New Year and Chinese Spring Festival periods.
