Before coming to Hokkaido, I had been looking up the super popular local Conveyor Belt Sushi Toriton near Tanukikoji every single day. It's about a 20-minute walk from the Tanukikoji Shopping Street. We arrived at the restaurant on Friday night at 7:00 PM. There was a huge crowd lined up outside. The restaurant wasn't giving out number tickets anymore. Which meant they couldn't take any more dine-in customers for the day. Super popular sushi spots in Hokkaido are also packed with people. You really have to act fast if you want to enjoy good food. Almost everyone inside the restaurant was Japanese. I didn't hear anyone speaking Chinese. I guess most tourists just grab a bite around Tanukikoji. Since we were already there and couldn't dine in, we decided to get takeout sushi and eat it in the park. Even the takeout took 20 minutes to prepare. But the wait was totally worth it. The fish slices on the sushi were massive and incredibly fresh. The scallops, in particular, were sweet and literally melted in my mouth. The sashimi was cut in very large and thick slices. The length often extended way beyond the seasoned rice underneath. Every bite was packed with the taste of fresh fish. A takeout order of 32 pieces was under 7,000 yen. The price is reasonable, and the cost-performance is unbeatable. If you were to get this level of quality at a regular high-end sushi restaurant, the price would easily be at least 2 to 3 times higher. If you're sightseeing in Hokkaido and don't want to get ripped off in the tourist traps, and you want to try a favorite spot among the Hokkaido locals, I highly recommend getting there early to pull a number ticket. Or, grabbing takeout is a fantastic option too...

The whole market is buzzing with energy, allowing you to fully enjoy the authentic Hokkaido vibe. Since I went in the morning, freshly caught seafood from that day was lined up at the storefronts, and just walking around taking it all in was thrilling! There are also plenty of eateries inside where you can enjoy seafood bowls and sushi, making it the perfect place to fully indulge in Hokkaido's gourmet delights. This time, I picked up some rich crab miso and fresh asparagus harvested that very morning as souvenirs. Both showcased the incredible natural flavors of the ingredients, letting me enjoy the taste of Hokkaido even after returning home.
