Zurich is one of those cities that surprised us with how much more it has to offer than you'd expect. 🏙️✨ It’s not just about strolling through the Old Town or shopping on Bahnhofstrasse; it also boasts a stunning lake, a beautiful river, scenic viewpoints, lovely parks, and magnificent nature like the Rhine Falls, which is just a short trip from the city. Even if you only have one day in Zurich, you can still soak in a variety of vibes—from wandering around the Old Town and taking a boat ride on Lake Zurich, to enjoying the views along the Limmat River and heading out to experience nature just outside the city. 🌊 📍 Rhine Falls — A famous waterfall near Zurich. Take in the massive cascading waters and the spectacular natural scenery. 📍 Zürichhorn — A gorgeous park along Lake Zurich, perfect for a relaxing stroll, chilling out, and enjoying the lake views. 🚢 Lake Zurich — Enjoy a scenic boat ride taking in the views of the lake and the city before hopping off at Bürkliplatz pier. ⛪ Fraumünster — One of the most important churches and a true landmark of Zurich's Old Town. 🏛️ Münsterhof — A spacious plaza right in front of Fraumünster, surrounded by historic buildings with a classic European vibe. 🌉 Münsterbrücke — A bridge crossing the Limmat River. It's a great photo spot offering views of the Old Town on both sides of the river. 🛍️ Bahnhofstrasse — The famous shopping street in the heart of the city, packed with numerous shops and designer brands. 🍽️ Niederdorfstrasse — A popular street in the Old Town lined with restaurants, cafes, and bars, offering a lively atmosphere in the evening. 🌭 Sternen Grill — A famous spot in the heart of Zurich, perfect for recharging during your Old Town walk with some hot Swiss sausages. 🏘️ Augustinergasse — A charming little street in the Old Town famous for its colorful houses. It's one of the cutest photo spots in Zurich. 🌳 Lindenhof — A viewpoint on a hill right in the middle of the Old Town, offering panoramic views of the Limmat River and the historic center from above. 🍦 Eisladen — A popular ice cream shop, the perfect way to wrap up the day. 🏨 Accommodation: ibis Styles Zurich City Center — We chose to stay here this time because of its incredibly convenient location. It's only about 450–500 meters from Zurich HB (Main Station), which is just a 5–7 minute walk. This makes it super ideal for anyone traveling by train or heading out for day trips outside the city. The hotel has a modern style and offers Free Wi-Fi, a Fitness center, Sauna, Restaurant & Bar, and a Breakfast Buffet. 🕒 Check-in: 3:00 PM | Check-out: 12:00 PM ❄️ No Air Conditioning ✨ A single day in Zurich gave us a perfectly well-rounded experience. We started the morning with nature, cruised the lake at noon, explored the Old Town in the afternoon, took in the views by evening, and finished off with some delicious treats. Even with limited time, you can explore the city without feeling like you missed out on anything. It’s an incredibly walkable, tourist-friendly city with gorgeous photo ops at every turn! 📸🇨🇭

Stepping off the train into Zermatt feels like arriving in an authentic alpine paradise framed by towering granite peaks. Tucked deep in the Swiss Alps beneath the iconic, razor-sharp pyramid of the Matterhorn, this charming mountain village maintains a serene atmosphere by being completely car-free, relying only on electric taxis and horse-drawn carriages. Stundering through the historic Kirchplatz quarter with its traditional wooden chalets, while the legendary mountain looms majestically overhead in the crisp alpine air, was an awe-inspiring experience that captured the true magic of Switzerland. 🏔️❄️ . 📅 What I experienced · The Gornergrat Railway: Riding this historic electric cogwheel railway up to an elevation of over 3,000 meters provided some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Matterhorn and surrounding glaciers I have ever witnessed. · Walking the Five Lakes Trail (5-Seenweg): Hiking past crystal-clear alpine lakes where the majestic peak of the Matterhorn mirrors perfectly on the glassy water surfaces. · Exploring the Car-Free Village: Wandering down the bustling Bahnhofstrasse and discovering the historic Hinterdorf quarter, where 16th-century wooden barns raised on stone stilts showcase old-world Valais architecture. . 🏨 Where I stayed · I stayed in a cozy wooden chalet hotel with a direct view of the Matterhorn from my balcony. Waking up early to watch the first rays of sunrise turn the mountain peak a glowing shade of fiery gold was pure perfection. 🛏️☕ . 🍴 My culinary highlights · Swiss mountain cuisine was an absolute treat after a long day of hiking. I indulged in a rich, bubbling pot of traditional Valais cheese fondue, paired with crispy potatoes, local dried meats, and a warming glass of Fendant wine. 🧀🍷 . 📌 My tips for visiting · Book Mountain Railways Early: The Gornergrat and Glacier Express trains are extremely popular. Booking your tickets in advance ensures you get the departure time and window seats you want. · Pack for Alpine Weather: Mountain weather changes rapidly. Falling in love with Zurich Old Town (Altstadt) — a charming atmosphere with picture-perfect spots in every corner! 🇨🇭✨ If you're visiting Zurich, Switzerland, taking a stroll through the Altstadt (Old Town) is an absolute must! The narrow winding alleys are brimming with the charm of historic European architecture. The pastel-colored buildings are incredibly cute, and the various flags hanging across the streets give it a wonderfully classic vibe. Highlights you shouldn't miss: · Vintage Alleys: It's a joy to wander through these streets. There are beautiful shops, cafes, and boutiques where you can stop and snap photos along the way. · Fresh Flower Fountains: You'll find lovely little details like fountains adorned with colorful fresh flowers right in the heart of the old town. The photos turn out so soft and gorgeous! · Historic Clock Towers & Iconic Churches: Catching sight of the St. Peter's Church spire and the old town skyline against a clear blue sky is truly a signature Zurich experience. The atmosphere is romantic and peaceful. You can comfortably stroll around and enjoy taking photos all day long. It's the perfect place for a relaxing walk to soak in the local lifestyle and the rich history of Switzerland. Highly recommended!

In one train from NL to Switzerland It wasn’t the most comfortable way to travel, but if you’re not a fan of flying, this is a great way to make it far in an easy way. I try to fly as little as possible. It’s good for the environment of course, but if I’m honest, the main reason is just that I hate flying 😂 I do recommend to try to book this train as early as possible.
