Honestly: I’m spending about 120 nights/year in hotels around Europe and the Middle East mainly. This one has blown me away and is second to none. Checkin was a charm, only to truly impress me with the room. Fitted into an old farm, the entire hotel is laid out wide rather than tall and has lots of small corners and sitting areas all over. There’s at least 4-5 fireplaces in the lobby and restaurant which give this place a very special flair. Best thing ever: EVERYTHING is organic. And I mean everything, not only food. Most things are built from natural wood which influences the whole air and atmosphere inside. Team is super friendly and helpful and they serve the first buffet I have experienced that actually features really good, home cooked food. Wow. The daily variety is amazing and everyone seems proud to work here. The conference facilities are special too. Spread around the hotel, they feature wooden floors and stone walls for a great ambience. Wait till you see the gym and spa area with pool... take the time to stay an extra night or over the weekend; it’s totally worth it. I’ll definitely come back for a weekend retreat with family.

Pleasant & friendly hotel very close to Ratingen Ost Station & thus easy short trip into Dusseldorf. About 5 minutes walk into Ratingen Centre. Reception staff are very helpful & friendly. Doesn't seem to have a lift although building only has about 3 floors. I was given a second floor room which although was for a single booking my room had a large & comfortable double sized bed. Hotel has a traditional feel with old style key locking to bedrooms & front door rather than a card. Everything clean & comfortable, quiet neighbourhood so I slept well. TV channels seemed a bit limited. Breakfast was good quality with usual continental & hot choices. I think building is quite old & there seemed to be small steps everywhere inside. Overall friendly hotel with basic facilities, not my first chouce in Ratingen but would stay here again.

Stayed in this hotel, to go to Christmas markets. Room was a good size, even took my mobilty scooter. Nice walk in Showers and showercaps with toiletries. Very helpful staff and very pleasant ambience in hotel. Would have liked to have seen more of Hilden, as we were just by a pedestrian area and shops, and there was a Woolworths and C&A.

Stayed here with two other adults. Nice small family hotel. Stayed in room 221. Well outside of central Dusseldorf. Jut 50 yards from a Gassatt the Zur Schönau and same distance from the tram which will take you into the centre of the cit. Trams run every 20 mins and cost 2.80 euros each way. Buy you ticket on the tram the ticket machines have English as well which made it easier. Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming. Beds comfortable, bathroom good and a nice continental breakfast for 8 euros. There is parking behind the hotel which is free but has limited spaces, alternatively there are additional spaces in the underground car park which is 8 euros for the night. Over all very pleasant

We recently used Am Zault for our wedding reception and this included accommodation for over 25 guests from the UK. The very complex setting-up arrangements were handled impeccably by Felicia Schwetling, the banqueting manager. Although my wife is German (hence the German wedding), I also had to deal with Felicia and her English is excellent. Throughout the entire process, she was helpful, personable, flexible and incredibly efficient. The Am Zault staff were also a joy to work with. All of Felicia's team said how much they enjoyed working for her (a sign of excellent management) and they were certainly well trained, pleasant and helpful. Breakfast at Am Zault is a great experience. There is a deluxe version of the classic continental breakfast but they also serve a good English breakfast. All the food is fresh which is often not the case at a hotel breakfast. The rooms are bright, clean and very comfortable - OK, I had the bridal suite but I visited other rooms and they were all high quality. My only sadness was that Am Zault has recently changed ownership. When we started our set-up arrangements a year ago, it was a family owned country house hotel. But it was recently bought by the Dormero chain who took over nine hotels at the same time. The ensuing systems chaos was completely predictable and could have been avoided by any competent head office team. Unfortunately, their head office team is less than competent. The new owners seem to have a love of the more 'plastic', Disney-style of image and the staff were unanimously embarrassed by their new uniforms which are set off by bright red ties, shoes and braces (suspenders in the U.S). This makes them look like circus clowns - and they hate it! The new company image features the word "Fancy" and all their communications from emails to company notices in the hotel, urge you to "stay fancy", or wish you a "fancy stay". I might expect this image at a Disney-world location but not at a high-quality hotel. However, despite the new ownership, the system problems, and the terrible low-class image, the staff worked hard to ensure that our reception was an enormous success and that our guests all had a comfortable stay. Oh, and by the way, the value was excellent!
