It was a bit smaller than I expected. It was also in an alley, so it was a bit scary at night. However, the interior was clean, and the two air conditioners kept us cool. And most of all, the owner was so kind. 😭 I arrived early, but he let me check in and delayed my checkout by an hour. I ordered fruit delivery early in the morning, and he contacted me about the wrong delivery and made sure it arrived correctly. Even though we were foreigners and couldn't communicate, he patiently guided us for over 10 minutes. Thanks to him, we were able to enjoy some delicious fruit. 🥰🥰🥰 There's even a cat in front of the property. This is a place I'd love to stay again next time I'm in Shanghai. 😘

There was no odor upon entering, and the environment was relatively clean. The only problem was the kitchenware was a little dirty, and a few air conditioners weren't cooling properly. It turned out the filters hadn't been cleaned. The staff immediately addressed any issues, which was excellent. Each room had exterior windows, providing ample natural light and plenty of space. The building is a bit older, so the lack of light in the hallways was a bit scary, but thankfully, there were no issues inside. The washing machine was very intuitive and easy to operate.

An excellent stay! I booked a 6-bed dorm but got upgraded to a 4-bed. The room wasn't huge, but each bunk had a curtain, a personal locker, and a power outlet and lamp on the wall of the individual cubby. My three dormmates were very quiet. The toilet and shower areas were in separate rooms. They also had a washing machine and dryer, which was a huge plus. Great value for money – I'd definitely stay here again next time I visit!

We absolutely loved the place. We have been living in Shanghai six years in a luxury apartment nearby. We are back in Shanghai after 9 years and we want to live the Shanghai way! The apartment is on the second and top floor of a lane house. You are really mingling with the locals. We made some good friends there! The place is as described. Very cozy. Everything is supplied. The owner is extremely responsive; we had an internet problems (actually our problem ) when we arrived and they responded immediately even if it was 11pm! Shanghai older neighborhoods are disappearing very quickly and if you want to experience the real Shanghai life, go quickly, the city is changing very fast… Finally I would definitely go back to this lovely attic if we go back to Shanghai. Thank you!

We booked it for the location, which is quite good for the price. Facilities: The facilities are decent, and it feels like a place you'd rent if you were just starting out, where things are just functional and quality isn't a priority. Cleanliness: The sheets, pillows, and towels were clean, but the overall ambiance was a bit shabby, with rusty faucets, moldy curtains, rickety bathroom shelves, and stained sofas and pillows. Environment: The landlord provided a back door through the kitchen, a shortcut to Yuyuan Road, which was very convenient. However, the lighting is dim late at night, and the restaurant is cleaning, so water, oil, and kitchen waste can be scattered on the grounds. Combined with the unpleasant odor, it might not be suitable for a single woman. Service: All communication was done via WeChat, and the customer service was very responsive, which was reassuring.

I was staying in this place just a few days and I’ve enjoyed the design and bathtub right next to the bed, it was cool, actually! The location is also amazing! ❌ You can hear neighbors if they are not very quiet, in my room I had a bathtub, but didn’t have a shower (that wasn’t a problem for me). And the biggest ⛔️ the room is quite moldy, especially behind the curtains. I would recommend for a short trip, to enjoy the bathtub and good location, especially if you are planning to be there only during the night. For longer trips I’m concerned about the mold behind the curtains, specific smell and that neighbors can disturb you. Anyway, good variation for this amount!

I stayed at Guisu Hotel in Caishouli. It is a newly fixed-up old Shanghai Shikumen house. The room was very nice and clean. The kitchen and bathroom were useful and had a washing machine. There was also a small yard. It was easy to walk to the subway station and to Huaihai Road for shopping. It is a quiet place in the busy city. If you want to try a real Shanghai Shikumen style house, staying here is much better and cheaper than a hotel. The front door has a code lock. I did everything myself from check-in to leaving. No one bothered me. I liked it a lot.

The old bungalows in Shanghai have a special and unique style. The public facilities are spacious, cool and comfortable. We lived in a one-plus-one loft on the top floor, and there is a terrace that can go up to the roof, which is great! The only drawback is that the curtains in the attic room are not very effective in blocking light, so I was woken up early in the morning by the dazzling light! Every little detail at the guesthouse was a delightful surprise. The exquisite snacks waiting for us upon check-in were the first warm welcome. In the evenings, a comforting goodnight tea, accompanied by soft lighting, gently relaxed our tired bodies and minds. The abundant breakfast each morning felt like a true gift from nature. Even the stylish shower curtain in the bathroom, simple yet elegant, was perfectly charming and thoughtful. Despite being embraced by a natural ecosystem where 'little creatures' might be expected, the guesthouse environment was exceptionally well-maintained. We didn't find a single mosquito or insect in our room, which is truly remarkable for such a natural setting. My child was particularly captivated by the little frogs, who merrily hopped along the path to the pool and around the courtyard. Peering out the window, their eyes sparkled with a pure, unadulterated love for nature. In that moment, I felt like I was looking at my younger self, brimming with a desire to explore the world. On our second day, my brother decided to make pizza in the guesthouse kitchen. What started as a playful experiment turned into an astonishing culinary success! The pizza was incredibly delicious; even my brother, who usually shies away from pizza, couldn't stop at three slices! It wasn't just good because he made it; it was genuinely fantastic. And despite being an amateur effort, it was absolutely authentic. The owner had been burning lychee wood charcoal, specially transported from Guangzhou, since early morning. Paired with the kitchen's homemade tomato and onion sauce, the aroma was simply irresistible, making our mouths water. I am determined to visit this guesthouse in all four seasons to fully appreciate its distinct charm throughout the year. In spring, it might be adorned with wildflowers, the air heavy with the scent of damp earth. Summer would offer lush shade and the soothing symphony of cicadas, an ideal escape from the heat. Autumn would transform the paths into a golden tapestry of fallen leaves, like a scene from a fairytale. And in winter, perhaps blanketed in snow, it would resemble a tranquil ink wash painting. Regardless of the season, this place is destined to be a sanctuary for the soul.
