|6.99km from city centeris ok, fairly clean, friendly and helpful stuff, 24 hours reception, can check-in at any time. next to the train track, very noisy, AC inside the room but makes noise, you cannot sleep without earplugs, unless terribly tired like I was. Felt very safe in the area, I arrived at 02:00 am using the subway, and left 03:00 am with no problems. shop right next to the hostel. across the road other shops for food which are cheaper, only a short train ride to the main attractions. Large kitchen, 2 large fridges, pool table, large seating area in the basement too noisy because of the train track next to the window, noisy AC, no lift, steep stairs, cleanness of toilets was not to the best.

|0.75km from city centerExcellent location and a great place to stay! The apartment is clean, modern and very spacious! We were skeptical at first with the app-based service but wow, the app is actually decent. We’ve got an instant reply 24/7 - no issue. Wi-Fi works well. Most reviews mentioned about the loud noise outside the apartment. The construction still going on during our stay but but we find it normal in NYC and it doesn’t bother our sleep. One thing though is that there’s no live TV here but you can login to your TV streaming services like Netflix or YouTube. We had an amazing time staying there and will definitely return.

|1.26km from city centerI spent a week in NYC for a change of scenery and wanted a comfortable place with space to work. Sonder delivered. The apartment is fully furnished, even including a dishwasher and washer dryer, two things often unheard of in a New York apartment. The location is perfect, convenient to just about everything including multiple Subway lines and walkable to Wall Street, Battery Park, World Trade Center and more. Also part of apartment living—some noise from neighbors including music and barking dogs. The non smoking policy was loosely enforced, this may have been due to the snowstorm. A request to enforce this was responded to quickly. Although there is a person at the front desk, no doorman type services like package handling are available.

|5.29km from city centerFantastic experience at the Hotel Sherman for my daughter's first trip to NYC. This boutique hotel reminds me of a quaint European boutique hotel or B&B. Our room was very cute, clean and quiet. It's right on Restaurant Row so there are a variety of delicious options just steps away. We recommend choosing take out and enjoying your dinner on the cozy roof top terrace which has a beautiful view above the roar of street level. The staff was friendly, gracious and helpful. We appreciated their willingness to store our luggage before and after check in/check out. The continental breakfast had a good array of options. The croissants in particular melted in your mouth. My daughter is gluten free but had plenty of options with hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit. We did pick up some gluten free bread nearby. The rooms also have a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave which are nice amenities to have. Just steps away from Times Square, the Theater District, the Port Authority and so many midtown sites, I would highly recommend this gem. The only critique I would have is the carpet in the elevator and hallways are a bit worn, but the charm of the rooms and gracious hospitality more than makes up.

|11.88km from city centerI was in NY to visit my daughter at her college. I was pleased to find a hotel room close enough to avoid wasting time in commute. I arrived to check in about 4:30pm and was immediately met with a front desk worker who was irritated, flustered and behaving unprofessionally. Apparently there were issues with the washer/ dryer that caused it to take longer than usual to to clean and prepare rooms. I had to sit in the small lobby to wait for my room to be ready. Eventually I had to go into the room while she finished cleaning around me. Didn't get into the room until after 6pm. However, the young lady cleaning the room was friendly and it was clear she was trying to make the best of a bad situation. The worst part of my stay was yesterday to come. That night the air conditioner broke and blew either no air or hot air. I emailed the manager repeatedly and then she just stopped responding. It was so miserably hot in that room, that I barely slept! I spoke to the front desk at check out, she empathized and even said that this problem had been happening before. Why would you rent the room if you knew the AC wasn't working? Never heard anything back from management. Towels and washcloths were horrible. Felt like a rag to use for cleaning. I was happy to find this place but their poor customer service turned me off! I would find somewhere else to stay!

|3.96km from city centerIt is a pleasant journey to stay in a Midtown Manhattan apartment in New York. It is suitable for travelers with a basic language knowledge. The rooms are not big but they have everything, and they are warm. The landlord is very nice, the surrounding is easy to come and go, it happens to be near Koreatown, it is suitable for Asian food, it is convenient to go to the surrounding attractions, close to the subway station, there is a supermarket across the street where you can buy a lot of food for breakfast, the hotel has no front desk Before you travel, you need to pay attention to the mail from the landlord. Check-in time is after 4 pm and check-out is 11 am, but luggage can be stored until about 5 pm. If you exceed this time, you can pick up your luggage from the front desk security. But you need to pay the security tip for each piece of luggage. All in all it was a good experience. If a friend goes to New York, he will recommend it to stay.

|3.99km from city centerThis was a horrible stay. With the AC on full blast I awoke at 2am drenched in sweat and the temp 85. This was on a chilly Nov night. The radiator heat was boiling. The curtains were touching the boiling radiator and I feared they would burn or catch fire. I tried calling and emailing with no response. I was unable to fall back asleep. I had to get ready the following day while dripping with sweat. Someone finally answered my calls around 11:30am. And said they would fix it. The day was quite warm for November and the room took forever to cool back down. I left for the day and when I returned it had cooled down enough to get some rest. Went out the next day and when I returned at midnight again 85 degrees. I just started crying. I tried calling again no response. While sweating I called my airline and ended up leaving the hostel at 2:30am and forfeiting my last sight seeing day in the city to get an early flight out bc I just couldn’t not tolerate 1 more minute in that heat. Since that stay I have called and emailed relentlessly asking for a refund of at least 2 night stay and have gotten NO response whatsoever. I am going to have to resort to contacting my credit card company which I have never done before. Please do your self a favor and DO NOT put yourself through the misery of a sauna from hell with absolutely no way to contact anyone affiliated with the hotel in case of emergency. And do not expect any customer service if there are any issues with your stay. With all the added fees, I could have stayed at the New Yorker right around the corner for the same price. Lesson learned.

|5.86km from city centerI have a mission to write this review! I am sending my biggest ever love to this hostel and staffs. I had my passport stolen in a cafe in Brooklyn. Yes, my passport with visa was stolen. I was groggy and in agony, but without the help of the Moore Hostel's staffs, I would not have been able to get up. They rented me $10 and a metro card that included the fare for the subway to Manhattan for I go to the Japanese counsel. I went back to the hostel to return the money and the card, which was my real pleasure. The Moore hostel is remembered with tragedy, but also with the impossibly kind staffs. The staffs enabled me to keep loving New York. New York! It's a beautiful city. It is a painful city. But I keep loving it. I will never forget the summer in 2021 and this hostel. May you be with nothing but wonderful memories, not tragedies. with the best love ever. Tep

Midtown West
New York
|6.02km from city centerBlink and you'll miss it, but the Jazz Columbus Circle is right there near 56th and 8th, between the LenWich and Wendy's. There's no branding or signage on the door or even the front desk but, trust me, it's there and you're at the right place. Pack a towel. New health measures mean they don't provide those anymore. They make coffee in the mornings, but the equipment isn't maintained well, and there's always a supply of bagels, but there's no way to know how long those have been there. If you bring home a doggy bag from your dinner out, you can store it in the communal fridge but there's no way to heat your leftovers back up as the microwave is out of order. Need a glass of water in the middle of the night? The fridge dispenses filtered water. You'll just be waiting a while, though, as it dispenses it at an extremely slow trickle. An extremely slow trickle was also how the sink worked in my dorm's bathroom. More water leaked onto the floor than flowed into the sink for the simple task of washing my hands. At least there were no issues with the shower. As for the toilet, the handle was loose and needed to be pulled carefully and securely each time. In the bedroom, you're provided a place for your head, a couple hooks for your things and a small locker. Bring a lock, unless you didn't pack any valuables and believe wholeheartedly in the honor system. It's winter and the AC is still in the window, but the draft won't affect you as the heat works exceptionally well. What doesn't work well is the hostel's WiFi. The city's is faster and easier to connect to. At the end of the day, it's an inexpensive stay at a youth hostel a couple blocks from Columbus Circle proper. You get what you pay for.

|10.49km from city centerDO NOT STAY HERE! This is THE WORST place to stay! There are no wash clothes, no soap, no shampoo, flat pillows, nasty towels, busted toilet, torn shade, metal bunk bed, and a box spring for a mattress. There’s a pipe at the ceiling that the tv antenna cord is wrapped around. Two hangers on the water pipe on the ceiling. Blood stains on the floor. Do NOT stay here! This should be shut down! Only saw the msn twice. He barely understands English. You can’t get extra towels, pillows, or blankets. You’re lucky to get the ones they give you.

Upper West Side
New York
|6.63km from city centerThe West Side YMCA is definitely a no frills place to stay, but the location is excellent. You're right next to Central Park and Columbus Circle. Times Square is an easy walk south. We stayed in 2 different rooms. The first had a bunk bed and was quite small, but the bed was comfy and the room was clean. It also had a small TV and fridge. We had a semi-private bathroom, which was down the hall. This meant we had to scan our key on one of the bathroom doors to get in, but once inside we had privacy while we got cleaned up. The bathrooms were kept clean and tidy. We were able to upgrade the second half of our stay to a room with a larger bed and an in room bathroom. Again, this hotel is no frills. It can be rough around the edges, but it's clean and comfortable at the end of a long day of sightseeing. We did not have time to take advantage of the gym, the pool, the sauna, and stuff like that, but they looked nice. I'd recommend the West Side YMCA. If you're visiting NYC, you should be out doing stuff, not sitting around the room. It was everything we needed it to be.

|5.22km from city centerThe location is not far away from Times Square (around 10 min walk), with kitchen, hot water (self boiled, which is not often in NYC hotels as they do not often offer kettle). A large refrigerator is offered, the host replies message promptly and all the check-in instructions are clear. The only thing that I think could be better is that I chose to stay at the ground floor, which still left some decoration smell. I think it could be better to choose to stay at the second floor with easy access to the kitchen. Recommended to stay at it at NYC since the price is fair!

|10.04km from city centerI had an overall good experience staying at the Kama Central Park, during my weekend getaway to NYC. The staff was pretty friendly and helpful, especially since I was a ***** who accidently booked a stay at a women's only dorm on Agoda (especially since Agoda didn't really specify that the hostel had Men only dorms, female only dorms and mixed dorms, and when I booked there was only one kind of dorm available) and they were still willing to accommodate me and they did. I got in about 15 minutes before check in and they still booked me in too, which was great. I really got only a couple of negative things to say about my stay and the first was they only give you one towel for your entire stay since they're pretty short on towels, so if you plan on staying there I'd recommend you bring a couple of towels of your own. The other thing is the showers aren't all the same quality. I wouldn't recommend showering in the one person bathroom especially if you get dorm 506 like I did because the water in that shower is cold. The men's shower on that floor however is better (apart from that one always running) because the water isn't cold but not really hot either, it's just ok. I liked the little console in the bed, and that let's you turn on the airflow, change the light color, dim the lights, etc. as long as you got your card. I'll also admit, I got a little worried for leaving my luggage in the bed because the doors to the bed pod, because the bed doors don't lock, but if you keep your belongings in the bed with the doors shut and out of plain view then you shouldn't worry about anybody stealing your belongings. I had a great time in NYC, but if you stay there then you might want to remember to bring a couple of towels and shower in the shower rooms, not the bathroom in your dorm.

|6.27km from city centerI booked a room at the last minute after my flight was cancelled, and was so impressed with everything about The Local. They were so helpful and accomodating, from my initial phone call, to letting me check in early when a room became available, to booking a cab to the airport early in the morning, at their discounted rate. The Local is situated near the iconic Gantry Park, and is walking distance from shops and sights. The rooms are well designed and super clean, and the lobby has everything a traveller needs, from computers, printer, charging area to a bar area, comfy couches, local art...and my favourite: a roof top lounge area with views of the NY skyline and Queensborough Bridge. I highly recommend staying here!

|9.94km from city centerDuring my week-long stay at Hi New York hostel from December 14th to 21st, I found the overall experience to be quite enjoyable. The check-in process was seamless, thanks to the ever-present front desk staff who were helpful and efficient, ensuring a smooth start to my stay
The proximity of the canteen and cafeteria next to the reception area added to the convenience. The cafeteria offered a delightful selection of freshly baked goods and various beverages, making it a pleasant spot to unwind.
While I explored nearby Bodegas for budget-friendly groceries, the hostel's public kitchen became my go-to for preparing breakfast and dinner. Although the communal kitchen occasionally suffered from post-use neglect, the dedicated hostel staff ensured it remained clean and well-equipped.
The cleanliness of the shared facilities extended to the toilets, which were consistently well-maintained and stocked with amenities. This attention to hygiene contributed significantly to a positive overall experience.
Despite booking a bed in a 12-bed room, I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and the daily cleaning routine carried out by the diligent hostel staff.
Adding to the positive experience, the Hi New York hostel's location proved to be exceptionally convenient for exploring major destinations. The hostel's close proximity to a subway station, just a 2-minute walk away, made traveling around the city a breeze. This accessibility enhanced the overall convenience of my stay, allowing me to easily reach and explore various attractions without any hassle. The strategic location near the subway station was undoubtedly a valuable asset for anyone looking to make the most of their time in the city.
In essence, Hi New York hostel provided a comfortable and budget-friendly accommodation option with its friendly staff, convenient amenities, and well-maintained communal spaces. My stay was marked by a harmonious balance of affordability and quality service.
