I stayed at the Melville Turret for 9 days, alone, split between work and vacation. Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this Guesthouse with its welcoming, friendly, warm and smiling staff, always available to meet any need. I had initially booked a room for only 5 days, I had no problem extending this stay directly on site. The rooms are clean and well appointed, as are the collective areas. Very pretty interior courtyard. Breakfast is generously prepared by Prisca, incredibly kind and with whom it is very easy to exchange and share (I miss your smile :) ). The street and the neighborhood are calm and safe, we are close (10 min walk) to activities / bars / restaurants on 7th. I could not have asked for better for a first experience in Johannesburg. No food is served however, and the stay could be frustrating at times when electricity brownout comes twice a day (not hotel's fault, it is a Joburg municipality issue). Well, from what I booked, it was supposed to be a 2-bedroom apartment. However, I was given a 1bed (Room.303), and when I went down to enquire, the reception lady wasn't helpful and blamed it on the app. Then I had to ask for a wifi password, which I would have assumed you would be given at reception. I ordered something, and when I went down to get it, the same reception lady gave me a bit of attitude when asking her how to open the main door so I could collect. Now I'm not normally one to complain, but I guess she didn't realise she was dealing with a person who has worked over 15 years in reservations, and I am very much aware of how OTAs work. I am still very upset about the wrong room choice I was given and made to feel like I'm the one who made an error. Then there was NO iron and hairdryer in the room. Apparently, they don't have any available from what I gathered from the housekeeping lady. Besides that, the housekeeping lady was exceptional, and the apartment was very clean upon check-in. Hopefullysomeone from the place will address these issues.

I had the most incredible stay at The Ashford Guesthouse. All my needs were taken care of by the professional staff and owner, Megan really attends to all guests needs to ensure a pleasant stay. The aesthetics of the guesthouse gave me a sense of homely comfort like I was visiting my grandparents. And with delicious breakfasts each morning that catered to my vegan lifestyle, I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely spread they provided. The location is also very convenient with Rosebank mall and the zone and the Rosebank market within a 10 minute walking distance. I truly enjoyed my time here and look forward to a future visit. 🌻🌻🫶🏼

I stayed at the Melville Turret for 9 days, alone, split between work and vacation. Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this Guesthouse with its welcoming, friendly, warm and smiling staff, always available to meet any need. I had initially booked a room for only 5 days, I had no problem extending this stay directly on site. The rooms are clean and well appointed, as are the collective areas. Very pretty interior courtyard. Breakfast is generously prepared by Prisca, incredibly kind and with whom it is very easy to exchange and share (I miss your smile :) ). The street and the neighborhood are calm and safe, we are close (10 min walk) to activities / bars / restaurants on 7th. I could not have asked for better for a first experience in Johannesburg. This time I chose a single twin room type because I stayed temporarily for one night. Compared with the suite, the single room type lacks a washing machine, which makes people feel a lot worse and less convenient. And the bed is not generally small.
