In addition, you must praise the young lady of the hotel, not only beautiful but also super intimate 😍! We patiently introduced the hotel facilities and recommended play routes. Even at which time period, there are few people to the attractions. In the morning, I was afraid that we would not be able to park in the Baquanxia parking lot. We drove from Taiyuan Gujiao on Saturday noon, arriving at Hongdou Gorge after about 6 hours. We stumbled upon Lao Zhao's Guesthouse online, and what caught our eye was that they had standard rooms with two 1.8-meter beds – perfect for our group of three adults and one child, all of us being on the heavier side. When we called to confirm, we immediately knew this was the place for us. Most hotels don't allow extra guests easily, but the owner simply said, 'As long as you don't feel crowded, it's fine.' Truly a kind and hospitable Shanxi native!
Don't let the unassuming name fool you. When we arrived in the evening, everything exceeded our expectations; it was truly impressive:
Firstly, the owner told us that since we were staying within the scenic area, he would drive us in directly, saving us the entrance fees for three adults and one child. Haha!
Secondly, although it's an old establishment, it was just renovated in March 2024. All the facilities are practically brand new, spotless, and the bathroom amenities are excellent. The showerhead and hairdryer are modern and work great. There's Wi-Fi, and you can cast to the TV. Lying on the big bed, only two words came to mind: 'So comfortable.' The courtyard is meticulously decorated by the owner – ambient lights, small potted plants along the stairs, and walnut trees laden with fruit surrounding the guesthouse... It's perfect for selfies. Even after just a few hours, we were already pleasantly surprised.
Thirdly, the owner himself! He's truly the star of this guesthouse. You can tell from the small details how genuine and thoughtful he is. He proactively helped us with our luggage and told us we could eat dinner if we wanted, but there was no pressure to do so and no forced consumption – his main goal is for guests to be happy. After dinner, he even brought us complimentary local watermelon and plums, which were incredibly sweet! Before bed, he specifically brought us water and tissues without us even having to ask. And because it's a mountainous area with more mosquitoes, the owner sprays mosquito repellent around the outdoor corridors every night – what a diligent and thoughtful gesture! This guesthouse, despite being a 'farmhouse,' offers service details that surpass many star-rated hotels. I have to give a huge thumbs-up to the owner's warm service! What a delightful weekend!
It's been ages since I wrote a review, but with such delightful surprises at every turn, I won't hesitate to give my praise. What an amazing guesthouse! Definitely a huge thumbs-up, many thumbs-up! I wish the kind owner a thriving business and abundant wealth, and I wish our Shanxi region continued prosperity! I'll definitely be back, and I'll choose this place again!
Finally, a small tip for everyone: the owner is very conscientious about his security system. He told us that if you leave the room, the door doesn't lock from the outside. As long as you don't leave cash scattered on the bed, nothing will be stolen. So, do keep an eye on your valuables!

The environment is even more amazing. Open the window is the stacked mountains. When the fog is over the canyon in the morning, the room is like an ink painting moving. The yard is full of mountain tigers, and hydrangeas are blooming. There are wind bells hanging next to the wooden table. In the evening, I sit there drinking tea and listening to the insects. It is more comfortable than the observation deck in the scenic spot.
The boss and the clerk were very enthusiastic, telling us where to park in advance, and also took the initiative to help carry the luggage. What's more intimate is that they painted the tour route of the canyon themselves, which niche attractions are marked with few people and good scenery, and it is right to follow it.
The most surprising thing is the price. About 300 yuan can live in such a place. The hardware is like a four-star, and the service is so in place, which is much more cost-effective than those hotels of the same grade around. Play in the canyon during the day, sleep on the mountain at night, this day is passed, don't mention how comfortable it is!
