"Table booked at 2.15pm for 3, 2adults-1 child, although I do thoroughly appreciate our child, although 12, will be 13 in May but looks decidedly 15 at least so an easy mistake by anybody but nevertheless the booking was 2adults,1child. We arrived bang on time and after a We arrived bang on time and after a couple of minutes were greeted by a man who checked our booking and said someone would be with us in a minute. After a good few minutes a lady came and again checked us off the list and said she would be back in an minute. After seeing both these people wander past us 2 or 3 times each, after 15 MINUTES we were eventually taken to our table and sat down only to wait yet again! We were asked if we would like to ‘upgrade’ to a champagne afternoon tea and my daughter explained that she had booked that anyway so warm champagne arrived almost immediately with 3 glasses as the 12 year old was going to be served with champagne even though the booking was CLEARLY made for 2 adults,1child but I do understand the 12year old looks way beyond her years but hey- read the booking!!! . Eventually at 2.55pm our food arrived but my daughter had specifically requested a ‘more savoury’ option for one as I don’t do cakes/scones or sweet stuff at all. This was agreed weeks ago, when booked with a manager and assured not a problem. When the food did arrive it was the normal selection so my daughter had to request that it was changed as per original booking. When it did arrive the substitute for cakes was 1 miniature pork pie,I mini sausage roll and 2 mini spring rolls. All 3 were inedible!!!! The pork pie and mini sausage roll were warm on the outside but stone cold in the middle. A definite NO-NO in anyone’s diet and the spring rolls were decidedly rock hard, as though they had been reheated from the previous evening, i know they should be crispy but not dark brown and rock hard. CHEF - you know exactly what you’ve done here - I’ve been in catering for a long long time so I know!!!! Eventually we were served with extra sandwiches as a substitute to the sweet stuff and it was LOVELY. The staff became very attentive and we had a lovely afternoon. I just wish that things had started on a more positive footing as the negatives may not have been so paramount. I have been before and enjoyed it but on this occasion you BADLY let yourselves down with very easily ‘fixable ‘ things. eg. Leaving us waiting for 15 minutes in the reception area Why didn’t you suggest we sit in the comfortable seats until you could attend to us properly? We were kept in that cold reception area for 15 minutes!! A long long time when you’re stood waiting, particularly when a specific time was made at the time of booking. When we were seated and the food brought, it was wrong to what was ordered. Again we waited ages and when it did come it was inedible!!!!!! For your part in this debacle it is so easily avoidable with communication and a bit more pride from your chef. I really don’t understand ho"
"On Saturday 7th March 2020 we decided to look for a luxury country house break for a few days. We typed into Google Luxury Country House Hotel, which resulted in this being one of the first hits. "Handpicked Hotels" sounded interesting so we sat and had a good long look at nearly all of their hotels, finally whittling it down to Rookery Hall and Stanbrook Abbey in Worcester. The final decision was made based on the online menu for Rookery Hall and we subsequently booked. So we booked to stay here from 11th Match - 14th March, Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal. We asked for Super King Size Bed, Separate Bath and Shower all of which we understand you pay for. This is not a cheap hotel, well maybe it should be, here's why. We arrived on the 11th and after checking in was shown to our room. After the porter had left we had a look around our "Luxury Country House Hotel" bedroom. Grubby, tired, living on old reputations all sprang to mind, Harsh you may think. The word "Luxury" does not conjure up windows that won't shut, lights switches that are so worn the "brass" had worn away and the switch actually looks grubby. Even more worrying in the light of recent news. A dirty pillowcase left on the bathroom window sill from housekeeping, which was reported within the hour but remained there nonetheless. Roller blind cord the was as tangled as a nest of vipers and an illuminating ( well no actually it didn't ) magnifying mirror on a broken gimbal so the mirror only faced downward. Useful to shave in if you are 3ft tall. The champagne requested was on ice in the room and as we both sat there drinking a glass we both admitted that it was not what we were expecting, but hey ho I am sure the lovely menu of food would more than compensate. Not so. We had booked to have dinner each evening at 7.15, because you have to book in advance, not sure why though the first ( and as it turned out ) and only night we stayed the restaurant was not even half full. When we were seated the menu arrived. It bore NO resemblance to the online menu. The fact that Handpicked Head Office Customer services manager pointed out to me is that it is a "Sample" menu not a definitive this is what you will get, it is illustrative of what we do. Well the dictionary defines "Sample" as a small piece of something, intended to show you what the "whole" will be. Just for clarity what she describes is "Example" and that is describing something that could have similar characteristics. Well the "Sample Menu" we looked at prior to booking had about 12 starters, mains and desert to choose from. Given that we are a couple staying 3 nights, that equates to 6 evening meals between us. So when you are presented with a menu that has 5 dishes per course to choose from and not the twelve in addition to which none of the dishes from the " Sample" menu are included, well it is understandable we were miffed. We raised this issue with the wait"
"Just leaving from our 1 night stay at Rookery, booked on a winter deal direct through the website! We are getting married here next year but this is the first time we have actually stayed over. Stayed in an executive double, the room was impeccable, with great facilities! We had a 5 course tasting menu on the night time which was beautiful. Breakfast the next day was fantastic, excellent choices on the menu not just the buffet to suit all tastes! Spent the morning in the spa facilities, the pool and spa pool which were really relaxing! Definitely going to book a treatment next time. All the staff we spoke to were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Special shout out to Emma our wedding planner for the bottle of champagne in our room which was a wonderful surprise! All in all a great visit, it’s made me even more excited to get married at this beautiful venue! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so special! "
