"We have stayed at AH before and were thoroughly disappointed with the service and food offering this time. Our room was beautiful and we could not fault it, our welcome from Charles was warm, friendly and efficient but the rest of the team let Charles down. Champagne bar service was rude and brusque. Our waiter for dinner was running around like a headless chicken, not because he was busy but just because he could! We ordered wine with our meal some white and a bottle of red. The red never came despite us reminding him three times and being told it was on its way three times, he even had the audacity to ask if we wanted the red wine once our meal had finished! The meal was probably the worse meal I had since school dinners 40 years ago. Macaroni cheese, like rubber with a couple of cheese slices, totally inedible. I didn’t eat it, the waiter said he would tell the chef that there was a problem with the meal but my husband pointed out, the chef would know as he had created it and he had put a couple of cheese slices on the dish so pointing it out would be a complete waste of time. So the following morning I chose an easy £22.50 avocado on toast with poached egg and vine tomatoes. It came on a tiny bit of toast with half the ingredients missing including the vine tomatoes, when I mentioned this to the Waitress, she said are you sure the tomatoes aren’t in their somewhere!!!, bless her, perhaps chef could show her what a tomato looks like... She did go and check with chef and he apologised and said he had forgotten some of the ingredients - basic stuff! All our food was bland, boring and not even cafe standard. On checkout I checked our bill and was informed that the item on their labelled ‘food’ was a service charge, we paid this just for the comedy value. To be honest all the staff with the exception of Charles lacked something which can only be down to management poor training. Very underwhelming and not at all 5 star. If you do want to book treatments, be prepared to hold the line for 20-30 minutes and don’t bother using their online app to enquire about spa treatments as they don’t do anything with it. We stayed the previous night at Bailiffscourt where we were met with impeccably trained staff and beautiful food. I would suggest AH is operating at 2 star from a food and service perspective, 3 star from a spa perspective and 5 star for the room. Not a hand sanitiser in sight by the way, although the general manager did say that no staff have been ill so far, which is good for us all. If you chose to stay at the AH you will be in need of a holiday after it, as just getting something done and done properly will be hard work. I would suggest AH take a look at their reviews with an open mind and do something other than just apologising, actions speaker louder than words. TRAIN your people including your chef. We may be back but only when reviews improve."
"I went to the Alexander House Hotel on the weekend of 24/10 and I had an amazing experience, it’s just outside of London 45/50min from Victoria, we were welcomed by the GM, we got an amazing room upgrade, everyone was aware of my celebration and we had some glasses of bubbles in the restaurant, we were served by Kamil and he was amazing, what a star! Our room had a beautiful view towards the back of the hotel, the bed was extremely comfortable, one of the best mattresses that I have ever tried. The spa was beautiful, several areas to try and to explore, being outside in the hot tub surrounded by the trees was an incredible experience that for sure we will be coming back soon. Also to note that this place made me feel extremely safe, all staff using protective equipment and guests with masks inside of the hotel."
"It was the second time my wife and I visited Alexander House. The first was on a whim for a romantic getaway about a year or so ago in much different times! The general impression was excellent, from the welcome ( and tour) to the desk staff to the room the food etc etc couldn’t fault it. This time was a planned night away for my wife’s birthday. We booked a double room and to our surprise we had a complimentary room upgrade on arrival. A junior suite no less.. and oooooo it was very nice.. and I can say that even in the very strange times we are now in, the quality was on a par with our first visit. Such a nice hotel to stay at and we will definitely be booking again. P. s The spa is a little gem to top it off. Well done Alexander House for everything you do."

"We got home this morning from a nights stay at Ockenden Manor staying in the room Luke. Firstly, once we had arrived we had to wait 10/15 minutes before we were even acknowledged (even though there was someone at reception - they could have given us a nod or a smile to acknowledge we were there). We then got to our room which to be honest is very dated, and there was a stain on the duvet cover. We also noticed that a lot of pictures were hung up wonky. After putting on our ‘fluffy’ dressing gowns, which is the word you use on your website, they were as rough as anything. Mine had two very large holes under the arm pits and the loops were hanging on by a thread on both of ours. After this discovery, we then realised we had no flip flops in our room, even though we were instructed to walk from our room, through the car park and into the spa (which we were not notified of this at the time of booking). We told reception about the state of our dressing gowns and was offered no apology but was advised we can change them at the spa. After the trek through the car park, flicking mud up our backs, we got to the spa around 3.15pm. The welcome we got there was somewhat unusual. We were greeted with a joke ‘you’ve chosen a good time to come, it’s going to be chaos in 15 minutes with family time starting soon’. This isn’t what you want to hear when you’ve just walked into a spa. They did not ask whether we’ve been there before, if we had any treatments booked or let us know where anything was - we were just told that towels are in the cubby hole, so we were left to wander about to find things for ourselves. The spa itself is nice when it is quiet, however we noticed lots of old paper cups lying around as well as used face masks on the floor. There was also no cups by one of the taps stating ‘drinking water’. We had a three course meal and the food was good, however my boyfriend wasn’t too hungry for desert, so therefore asked for 1 scoop of ice cream - which you tried to charge us £5 for. We questioned this and then it was removed from our final bill. The atmosphere in the dining room is somewhat awkward and the staff are very robotic and not engaging in conversation. We then came to check out (finally), and the receptionist didn’t even ask how our stay was - isn’t that the first thing that should be said when you check out? That is just basic customer service. We booked Ockenden Manor as we wanted a relaxing time away - however it was the opposite."
"We stayed 1 night for our anniversary, mainly to make use of the spa. The hotel was nice. Nothing overly fancy, and nothing negative really to say, it just wasn't really my style of place. It was clean, the dinner was nice the beds were very comfy, I just prefer a more modern looking place. I also wasn't too keen on the turn down service in the evening! Breakfast also wasn't the usual buffet style that I am fond of. You order from a menu. Whilst they offer a full English, I don't like most of the items and then ended up customising the whole thing. The were accomodating of my fussy antics. The staff in the restaurant were lovely. The spa isn't actually in the hotel. This is a newer building around the corner and this absolutely lovely. I've already pencilled in some dates to return. Indoor/outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, all the usual things, but it was all just really well maintained. I didn't have a treatment on this occasion, but will book earlier next time. Everyone was welcoming in both the hotel and the spa and I look forward to returning to the spa."
"Surprise celebration for our daughter's 30th birthday for all of the family @ Ockenden Manor in March. Had a superb weekend including treatments at the Spa and swimming with our 2 babies during the allowed sessions. Had a brilliant time and may we say thank you to all the staff who never failed to be helpful and friendly. Its a great hotel with lovely rooms, and good food. Thanks especially to Blake for baking a superb cake for the special day. Absolutely delicious and HUGE ! Thanks to everyone for making Claire's 30th brilliant. Best regards Maggie & Rob "

"The room was lovley the bath room let it down tiles coming up from floor bath high so take care getting out.The noise that came from the toilet it self woke me up 3 times not sure what it was but work out how to stop it by flushing the toilet may be pipes.took me 25 mins to work out were it was comig from.we were in the swift room.the best bit was the food the only person that spoke to use the the lovley lady who served are meal and the room sevice man.very cold atmosphere never got asked how are stay was well no one spoke to use.house keeping turned up at 4pm when we been out allday so had to leave the room for her .The spa well never even used as when went over there was like a council swimming baths.very let down for us spending £845 for 2 days.iv been to a lot of hotels but this is the worst staff i came across.but hotel is lovley in its self if they keep it in its glory."
"Come to my friends birthday celebration last weekend. Food was excellent. Surroundings out of a fairy tale. Drinks were a good price bearing in mind where we were. Many thanks to Ian who helped changed my menu choices. I've only just found out I'm gluten free and didn't even think bout it but he picked up on it and helped me. Would recommend"
"The hotel sells itself on being ‘handpicked’ and having 2 Rosettes from the AA for the restaurant but in our opinion the Hotel is average at best. The food we had both at dinner and breakfast was OK and looked nice but was luke warm (after waiting 30 mins for breakfast one meal got sent back as it was cold). The rooms are, again, average. We found that when anyone leaves the connecting rooms you can hear the door close and vibrate through the walls (very heavy). The staff are very friendly and helpful but are let down by the hotel. This place is trying to be something it isn’t. A posh establishment in the heart of the Surrey Downs."

Racecourse Road, Lingfield, Surrey, United Kingdom
"We stayed on a Saturday night in late September as part of a package with Chessington and were very happy with the experience. The COVID measures taken made the hotel feel safe and largely secure. Our only observation was that a few of the tables in the restaurant at breakfast could have been slightly further apart - they were not particularly close, but whilst sat in an almost empty restaurant for breakfast another guest picked the table right next to us and then sat in the nearest seat, less than 2m from my wife. Service in the hotel was excellent, the restaurant was very busy on the Saturday evening, so we had dinners sent up to our room, which arrived promptly and were hot and very good quality. Aside from the experience with the other guest sitting very close to our table, breakfast was really good - a wide cooked selection was available which was plated up by the chef (behind a screen), so really just like a buffet, but without the need to serve yourself. We had a very comfortable Double King room overlooking the racecourse, which is a lovely backdrop to wake up to. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the area."
"We came for an event taking place in the hotel and had a great stay - what an unexpected joy to have a view of the race track... with horse race action on it! The room was spacious and comfortable, good bed, decent cupboard space with enough hangers, and good tea and coffee facilities in the room (but would prefer full cream or half fat rather than skimmed milk.) The room service menu had good variety - and what we ordered arrived quickly and with everything needed on the tray! (We all know that with room service so often something is missing...) Breakfast was plentiful right up to when it closed at 11am on Sunday. We didn’t have time to even look at the spa but will definitely come back and look forward to it."
"The room was very nice - good view and very clean. If it was just on the room it would be 4 or 5 award rating. However, here were issues on how your staff had been trained for COVID especially in the restaurant. This caused us to miss breakfast on the second day and not use it for evening meal as we weren't happy on the first morning breakfast. That day at breakfast, there were only about 3 tables full and the serving person tried to put us right next to them - definately not even a metre away. The knives and forks were already on the table - not recomended. The jug of milk and food plates were brought in the hand not on a tray, holding the handle on the jug. The server leant over us to take the plates - did not ask first. They also handed me back my knife by the handle when they took my toast plate. The butter on the toast plate had been laid out - fine on normal service, but it meant each packet had been touched by someone to do this. So overall we did not feel safe eating there. Also the entrance and exit being the same thin entrance was a bit strange when there was other doors not in use. Very good location for British Wildlife Centre"

Denbies Wine Estate,Bradley Lane, Dorking, Surrey, United Kingdom
"The room was very clean and both evening meal and breakfast were excellent. There was confusion concerning the location of the dinner as the venue was changed at the last minute to the gallery restaurant in the main complex, not in the hotel itself as previously advised and later confirmed. On a cold wet evening we could have done without the 5 minute walk and the table we were given was ridiculously close to the adjacent table . The biggest issue however is the noise in the hotel itself. There is very little sound insulation and our room was above the reception area which doubles as a bar in the evening so the noise did not abate until well after midnight. Denbies needs to seriously rethink whether this is a good idea and to maybe have a bar located in the main complex, away from the hotel itself."
"I thoroughly enjoyed my night in this hotel which I felt was amazing value. It was sparkling clean and obviously recently refurbished. The room was stylish with a real coffee maker and good quality snacks (toffee waffles!) The views in the breakfast room were amazing and the breakfast was delicious. I will definitely stay again."
"We paid for a room with a garden view. The first room allocated gave us a view of a brick wall! We were moved to Room 7 in the farmhouse building. A huge mistake. There is zero noise insulation from the corridor and reception area. We were rudely awoken with noise at 5.30am on Boxing Day and 7.00am the day after. This room (and I guess adjacent Room 1) needs to come with a suitable warning. We paid extra for a better room and were given a room that can only be described as sub standard due to the total lack of noise insulation. The owners need to sit in the room and then ask somebody in the reception area to talk - they almost seem to be in the room with you. Otherwise, clean, comfortable and friendly with very good breakfasts. On a practical note it would be good to have somewhere in the bathroom to store toiletry bags."

"We cannot rave about this place enough!! We decided to hold our surprise wedding breakfast here and turned up 4 weeks prior to the big day not having a clue what we wanted or how we wanted it! Robbie calmly took control asked us a few questions and then delivered what we can only describe as the perfect day. The guys were so accommodating even making sure the car park was clear to the side of the building for our London bus to park up and receive our shocked guests. They sectioned off a lovely area and created such a wonderful relaxed environment exactly as we had wanted. The food was absolutely stunning and all our guests continue to rave about it. Plenty of options for all dietaries nothing is too much trouble for the team you only have to ask and they deliver! We stayed over the night before in 3 rooms, 1 double and 2 interconnecting doubles (perfect with kids)They were exceptionally clean with fantastic facilities and beautifully decorated. The guys are so chilled it felt like we were at home having a yummy breakfast then getting ready all together for our special day. Not once did we feel like we had to rush and the offer to check out after the ceremony was greatly appreciated! We cannot thank these guys enough for making our day so special we have the fondest memories and truly could not have wished for anything better. We honestly would not change a thing! They created such a beautiful relaxing environment for us to be able to share our day with our loved ones. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are all amazing and create a wonderful environment where we will certainly be celebrating our special occasions in the future. 😁"
"My wife Debbie and I stopped here on a lovely Wednesday evening on the 2nd October 2019 prior to flying to Egypt from Gatwick airport. Having easily booked prior to arrival on the phone, we arrived to a lovely character building. We parked at the rear in the very large parking area, walked inside and were warmly greeted and led to our room, which was a ground floor room, in a converted old barn of six rooms. On entry were were extremely pleased. It was spotlessly clean, had a massive king size bed, ample room with hangers for hanging clothes, tea and coffee making facilities and an ample 32 inch wall mounted tv. The bathroom was a lovely walk in wet room area, which had fittings for disabled bodied people if required. The bedding was crisp, white and of a very good quality. Our night sleep after a stunning meal in the restaurant was great, so quiet and woke feeling refreshed. breakfast which was included in the room price was great quality home cooked local produce with continental breakfast buffet if required. Thank you for a lovely night stay. we would definitely stay again."
"We chose this pub for the location and were so surprised when we arrived how charming it was.The converted stable block for the rooms was very tastefully renovated with luxury beds, roll top bath, great colours and very spacious. We had everything we could have possibly needed. The landlord and staff were charming and the breakfast was excellent and copious. Highly recommend this lovely English country pub that is very handy for Gatwick."

"Great manor-style hotel with large and comfortable rooms. The restaurant and bar taste good. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. The parking is convenient and free. Originally, it was a noble manor, with a large private territory and beautiful surroundings."
"This hotel is super nice and exquisite. However, the room adapted to the Chinese is carefully entered. Because it is a disabled room. No wonder the Chinese can decide. Everything else is perfect. The service is super warm. Sigh."
"Very nice hotel, the only downside is that this place is easy to snow in winter. It is probably a very good place to come here in summer, a bit similar to a castle."

"Good location when visiting the Surrey area. Plenty of parking. The room was compact and very nice, really well equipped, plenty of storage, nice climate controls, and a nice view over the golf course. Nice comfy bed, and very clean. The bathroom was great, loverly shower, heated floor. Nice toiletries and towels. The evening food was good. A good selection at the bar. Continental breakfast available which is included in the price. Has to be given 5 as for the price it was excellent. Would recommend, without a doubt."
"Me and my mum recently stayed here to be able to attend a University interview in Epsom, we had travelled a very long way and had never been to the area before. The staff were so helpful, friendly and lovely on arrival and check out and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. Ian especially went the extra mile to ensure we had an excellent stay! If you want to stay somewhere you feel cared for this is the place!"
