Castellar de la Muntanya, La Vall de Bianya, Catalonia, Spain
"Roser and Hector are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is located 5km from St Joan up a hill, but it’s remoteness is it’s charm. Surrounded by amazing scenery and hiking paths, it’s an oasis of tranquility. The hotel has a spa, which can be reserved and is large enough for 2. We had massages in the spa - Jordi was great. Rooms are also great, our patio was huge and we could just sit there and watch the surrounding beauty. Bed was comfy enough and the bathroom had a bathtub, which we used to great effect after our hiking. Cleaned daily. There’s also a shared living area - every set of 4 rooms basically has a living room/kitchen area that is for the use of guests. There’s a fridge, stove top and a fireplace (that Hector lights every night) with a couple of sofas. There are horses and cows in the fields below and the hotel dog Pelut mills around looking for things to bark at. All in all, we were here 5 days and had the entire hotel to ourselves on 2 of the 5. Was quite blissful. Even with all rooms full, there would be plenty of room, as there’s a pool and various different chill out areas. Lastly the food - free breakfast every morning, ready cooked by Roser (bacon and eggs please!) and dinner, while limited, was excellent every night. Add to this a reasonably priced wine list. Excellent stay that I’d highly recommend - Roser and Hector go above and beyond and we’ve already decided to go back. We live in the center of Barcelona, so this place is just the ticket for some fresh mountain air. Gracias Más Prat! "
"Last December we spent a couple of days in Mas Prat. Not having been there before, we were seduced by the pictures on its website and few good comments on TA. From the beginning, the exchange of messages was straightforward and pleasant. Not a single complaint even when we reached there by midnight due to a delayed flight, on the contrary: a warm smile and a very nice meal were awaiting us (past midnight!). During our stay, both Roser and Hector truly excelled as hosts and made us feel really comfortable, almost at home. The place itself is a gem. A small, cozy hotel with a gorgeous location. Oak forests cloak the hills with just three or four traditional houses (masias) on sight and the Pyrenees Mts in the background on the left. Rooms are nice, with comfortable beds and big bathrooms. The food is consistently good (which is good news, because the place is 7 kms from the nearest village, and we would have felt very lazy to leave it in the night to go for dinner. That said, there're some excellent restaurants nearby, specially close to Olot.) And the spa..Maybe it is because we had it all for ourselves, but what a privilege it is to enjoy a relaxing spa in such a small hotel, in the middle of nowhere, and with a glass of cava courtesy of our hosts! The best thing I can say about this place is that you feel really sorry to leave it."
"The stay at the place was a big disappointment in several ways. The short version: The only impressive thing was the view. The details: We booked the room "lila" for one night on a weekend for two adults, a kid and a dog. On the booking.com website we got the impression that this consists of two separate rooms, just to find out, that this is all just in one quite small room. The photos on the website were somewhat misleading but if it would have been only this, we would just have taken the error on our side and said that we should have looked more careful before booking. But things got worse. Arrival and check in: At arrival we did not see a clear sign that pointed out the way to reception, so we were wandering around the building, checking several doors, until a cleaning lady pointed out where we should go. While check-in was quite friendly, we missed an explanation of the amenities and services the hotel has to offer, where to find them, etc. The only information that was pointed out was that we would need to tell in advance if we want to have dinner. Room: As mentioned, the room was much smaller as we expected from looking at the pictures and it had quite a strong smell, probably caused by some cleaning agent that had just recently been used. The bathroom was very uncommon as it had a glass door that gives a strong feeling of missing privacy when using it, as well, the bathtub had quite some moldy areas and the way the light was installed did not look very safe. Lunch service: Since we arrived about lunch time, we asked if we could order some lunch. While this was possible, our request to have it in our room or take it there was denied without reason. As a second option we asked if we could have it outside at a table but the staff insisted we had to go inside the building. Since the whole restaurant was totally empty at that time we could not see why that was the case and expected some more flexibility. We were not very hungry, so we just ordered a small lunch for one with three plates. Not being sure if our request was not understood very well or lost in translation, we ended up being served two portions at a small table. When we requested if we could have just a third plate for the kid, the staff was quite unfriendly and instead of just fulfilling our request, moved all our food and plates to a larger table making us move. As mentioned, all this happened in a totally empty restaurant, where it would have been easy to just move a chair and add a plate. Being very unhappy with the way we were being served, we got up and left. Spa: Considering the price that we paid, we expected that it would be already included in our booking, just to find out that there is an extra fee for it, which we consider way to high, when you look at the size of the area and services offered. When the kid entered the - again totally empty - spa area just to look around, she was told off to leave because it is not free. A litte more "

Avinguda Santa Coloma, 97, Olot, Catalonia, Spain
"There is the hotel and the aparthotel which are next door to each other. We stayed at the aparthotel and had a very comfortable room which overlooked the park. There are basic cooking facilities and a large terrace. We stayed for 2 nights on a half board basis and were totally satisfied. The breakfast was very good and the evening meals were real " home cooking" with a good choice of dishes plus a bottle of wine which was included in the price. The staff were all friendly and helpful so I would recommend this hotel. There is a large supermarket just opposite the hotel which proved to be very useful."
"We stayed in the apartments which faced onto the park. The rooms are clean and of reasonable size. The cooking facilities are adequate though the electric cooking rings take a eternity to heat up and cool down. The air conditioning unit we thought barely cooled the room. The apartment had a large terrace which should have two metal chairs and small round table. We parked overnight in the free unsecured open air car park for the park which is to the side of the hotel without any problems. I had grilled rabbit in the hotel restaurant and it had little meat. The apartments front on to the main road or overlook the park. Choose the park view for a quiet sleep and terrace."
"Stayed in Hotel La Perla during a week of work. I have stayed in two different rooms, and they were both clean and ok. One of them were a bit worn, and the beds a bit hard. It isn't a hotel I'd stay in during a holiday, but for one or two nights or for work it's fine."

El Serrat, S/N, Mollo, Catalonia, Spain
"Rooms with a balcony were good size and clean and comfortable as were the bathrooms. No air con. We ate in every night and the food was good but a limited menu when staying for a week or so. We would have liked to have vegetables with the main course as none were provided. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choices and fresh eggs and bacon cooked when requested. What really makes this hotel great is the family and staff that run it. Very helpful and good English spoken. Advised us on various places to visit and best places to park. One note though is that one of friends had booked a room with a balcony and on arrival it was unavailable and they had to have a different room. This was reflected in the price of the room upon departure, but was disappointing having booked a balcony room."
"This is a typical alpine-style hotel in a small village. The staff are friendly and polite. All rooms have nice views of mountains and alpine meadows. Our room was pleasant and with nice views. It was very clean. The bed was comfortable and there was good quality bedding. The shower was amazing – a huge walk in shower with an overhead sprinkler which pushed out water at an amazing pressure. I wish we had one like it at home. There were all the usual facilities. The only criticism was the hairdryer, which my wife said, was not very powerful. The food is very good, but beware of the bar. Two G&Ts set me back €24 – expensive, even if they were huge. Hint: drink your red wine chilled, Catalan style. Drink the house red. It is delicious, refreshing and inexpensive."
"We stayed one night here as part of our walking holiday. The room was quite spacious though the shower room was on the small side. The mirror was heated when the light was on which is always nice as you can still see in the mirror. There was no balcony but the big window slid back a long way and there was a lovely view of the hills. The public areas of the hotel were very spacious, but divided in to cosy seating areas. The restaurant was big and had been quite busy when we arrived but by the evening there was only one other couple eating there apart from us. We chose the house cava as it was my birthday and it was excellent. They also put a little candle on my dessert! The food was good."

Urbanizacion Font Rubi, Camprodon, Catalonia, Spain
"Keep in mind that the hotel has two accommodation types. The traditional hotel room and villas. The typical hotel rooms are on the main hotel grounds while the villas are about 5 minutes away by car. The villa is very nice. Roomy, lovely views of a valley and mountain range. "

Pont, 2, Besalu, Catalonia, Spain
"The hotel has a house for more than 100 years. Of course, there is an old house smell. I opened the window, but I caught a cold. We stayed on the 2nd floor, boarding the floor, the living room was very good, the children played chess there. Breakfast is also possible, eat local dried sausages, starting at 8 o'clock. Staying here is for the scenery of the window and the quiet old town in the morning and evening."

Outstanding

Comte Tallaferro, 15, Besalu, Catalonia, Spain
"This place was absolutely fantastic. After encountering some mis-matches on reviews vs. our impressions at various accommodations in Europe, our family of four walked into this friendly, clean, modern, well-appointed hotel and it was glorious. They were so friendly and even just gave us the code to get in when we were arriving late. We slept so darn well, and enjoyed every moment we were there. It's a little hard to find: that's part of its charm as being a modern hotel in the middle of this ancient town. You can walk to all of beautiful Besalu, or over the bridge, and there are a nice little mix of shops and restaurants all a little saunter away. The hotel itself is right at the center of the architecture. A two day stay was maybe enough to see everything, but I could have stayed a week and still enjoyed the view and comfort. We stayed in the family apartment on the top floor. It is spacious, awesome view, and has two very comfortable rooms and a long lounge type area to spread out into or to hang out while others are sleeping, as well as balcony. Seriously, if you are two adults and two kids, it's phenomenal. The breakfast buffet in the mornings was fantastic, and there's even an honor bar where you can go grab a beer at off hours. With the exception of the pool being too cold to swim in in June, and the long stairs to the apartment (which we didn't mind), I can't think of a single thing to warn people about. The people who run this place have put together something special. If you are traveling with a family (of four), I can't recommend the hotel (and the family apartment) enough."
"We arrived in Spain (Barcelona) mid day and drove northwest to Besalu for our first few nights in Spain (on our way to Marseilles). Casa Marcial is on a quiet street in the heart of the walled city of Besalu. The room was spacious, very clean, with a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. We had a charming view through French doors across the rooftops of Besalu. Breakfast was delicious and varied. There was an elevator which we appreciated as we were very tired from the flight and travel with too much luggage! The only word of advice, if you are driving your own car, please talk with the hotel prior to arrival as to where you should park and how to get to the front door of the hotel. The GPS was quite confused as to what streets were drivable or not. But it's worth the effort. An enchanting village."
"What an absolutely lovely place to stay in this jewel of a town; the location was right in the middle of this very small medieval village, and the hotel just sparkled with all the amenities one typically finds at a more “upscale “ boutique hotel, robe/slippers... even a box of chocolates on my birthday. Our room on the second floor was spacious and filled with light overlooking the old church... excellent choice to book here (first photo is from the town bride, the second photo from the window in our room)"

C/Ganganell, 15, Besalu, Catalonia, Spain
"This small beautifully kept hotel is in the center of the village, a few minutes walk from the main square and the major sights. Parking is in public areas and if traveling by car you can drive up to unload suitcases by reception before parking in these areas nearby. We arrived very late after a long drive-Noelia the manageress had provided us with a key code for the hotel entrance and our keys were waiting for us on the reception desk. We met her the following morning at breakfast (included) and she proved to be a delightful and helpful host. Breakfast is a good combination of meats and cheeses, various breads and pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal and beverages. My room was on the 3rd floor (elevator /lift available) and was bright, clean and very comfortable with a great view of the rooftops and mountains. For those unfamiliar with this part of rural Spain, main meals are generally taken in the early afternoon and not all restaurants are open at night or late. The hotel has a small comfortable bright commons room on the 3rd floor with a refrigerator and microwave for evening snacks, and a small bar area in the breakfast room open during the day for beverages. Clean, comfortable, quiet, highly recommend this hotel."
"This was an overnight stop for us. The hotel is small and situated in the old town.we parked in the public car park just outside the old town by the roundabout. It's only a short walk to the hotel over cobbled streets. When we arrived the reception door was locked, no-one came when we buzzed the door. But eventually we entered as someone was coming out. Evidently the staff also run the café, so maybe it would be best to go through that way. The hotel was very clean and the beds comfy. Breakfast was the usual continental. They could do with an automatic toaster though! Everyone had trouble with it and the staff continuly turned the temperature up and down."
"We had a 3rd floor room overlooking the mountains. It is in the heart of town a few minutes walk from anywhere you would want to go. Excellent breakfast included. The proprietor was friendly and most helpful."
