"I stayed here during a business trip and it was a refreshing change to living out of hotels. The personalised, family owned element made such a difference. I arrived early, but this was no problem as the lovely couple that own the lodge came to get me checked in with their two equally lovely children entertained me with their conversation and ‘hopping ability’ I was shown to a beautiful room (which was upgraded to a slightly larger room due to it simply being available) by a lovely lady and her children - and advised on local restaurants to get a nice evening meal, they were so accommodating and I really appreciated this. The room was well equipped and I couldn’t fault it. Breakfast was served in the morning by yet another lovely lady and the chef. Full English was delicious. The nicest thing was to be asked how my stay had been - these guys really value the importance of a great stay on their lodge, I look forward to my next booking. Thankyou,"
"We stayed for 4 nights as part of our visit to Hadrian's Wall and the Northern Lake District. The location is ideal being close to the A69 and the M6, yet in a really quiet village. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. It was equipped with all the modern conveniences one expects with a large hotel but with the friendliness of a B&B. The restaurant is open 4 evenings a week. The one evening we ate there it was excellent, as were the breakfasts. We also found there was a wide choice of good of restaurants close by in Wetheral and Carlisle. Scotby itself is a lovely friendly village with pub, shop, school etc. The owners and staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay, which we certainly did."
"Stayed on a trip into Scotland. Specifically I needed an electric car charging point and this establishment offers a Tesla point. There is usually one that can charge other models of cars so I booked. When I arrived, the point I needed wasnt working. Unfortunately the owner was away and his mum (? could be wrong) was helping people book in. She couldnt help me with the charger despite her best efforts. I said it didnt matter and I could charge in town. An hour later her husband came along and search for the fuse which we found and all was good. Exceptionally helpful, lovely room and nice breakfast. Thanks John and Liz, sterling job."

"I stayed here for one night to break my journey from the south of England to the north of Scotland. I loved it. All the staff I met were efficient and helpful. I had a room in the annexe that was perfect for my requirements, comfortable bed and great en-suite. I was particularly impressed with the mirror in the bathroom. I had a great evening meal in the lounge, very tasty and good price. Also a great breakfast in the morning before my departure that set me up for my long drive. A great experience and highly recommended."
"Stayed here during the storm last night and unfortunately the window broke it was so windy! The owner and staff were amazing and moved us to another great room straight away, it was warm and lovely. Honestly they couldn’t be more welcoming and accommodating, the breakfast included in the room price is also absolutely amazing. Bargain prices for such a nice hotel. Thank you so much again for a lovely stay. "
"A group of us had Christmas lunch today, three courses plus tea or coffee, lovely meal good service by all the staff, can recommend if you want to have a works or group meal there. There is quite a lot of parking spaces at the hotel, plus disabled parking and disabled access."

"This is the second time we have stayed here and could not fault anything. We booked for 2 nights this time and arrived on Saturday morning, we were early for check in but the lovely lady on reception checked the room and told us we could check in as soon as it was ready and offered to come through to the ajoining bar and let us know when its ready. We were given the biggest room (no9) it was so spacious and very clean. We were visiting family in the area so were back and forth to the hotel throughout the 2 days so the kids could rest, it was very quiet so ideal for families. We could not fault the staff we encountered The lady on reception ( didnt catch her name unfortunately) was the same on both days and she was so friendly and lovely towards the children, the only other staff member we saw was the cleaner who was also lovely and friendly to us all. We will be booking here again for our next visit in the summer and would definitely recommend this hotel. "
"I can't give the staff at this hotel enough praise. Stayed for one night. Upon arrival my colleague got a phone call whilst standing at reception with some great personal news. We checked in and went for dinner in the attached restaurant. Once again the staff were extremely helpful. When we returned to the rooms my colleague discovered a card of congratulations, drink and box of chocolates has been put in the room for him. I also needed to have a job sheet printed out for work and this was done and brought to us whilst eating breakfast. The rooms were tidy, clean and comfortable. Loads of parking available, which was helpful as we arrived in a large van. Just an overall really good experience"
"room was spotless and well presented, extra coffee and milk if required at reception. The adjacent brewers fayre was reasonable and breakfast as always plentiful and free for my grandaughter. Very good nights sleep with no disturbances. Free wifi. Very reasonably priced and lots of parking spaces, no complaints whatsoever."

"I had my wedding here a few days ago now, and had to take the time to mull over exactly what to put in here, let’s just say we are totally appalled with the hotel, bar a few exceptional staff. During the whole stay we only saw 5 staff, who were very stretched and covered many other jobs, thus making it a long wait to be serviced at the reception and bar. I have a detailed video showing everything specifically wrong with the room, but I am only able to show the photos I took. In short myself and my partner booked for a wedding package through Gretna wedding bureau, the room was sold as a bridal suite and had this mentioned to us a few times when staying there, upon complaining further about how disgustingly dirty the room was, the general manager who at the time of us booking was also the person who arranged wedding bookings told me it is a 4 poster bedroom and sold as this on there website, then blamed the difference on my own interpretation instead of apologising and saying she would get this rectified with the bureau. I had specifically told her the room was covered in cob webs and all she had to reply was it was spider season, which I would be more than forgiving if they weren’t in every single room and days old as they had multiple flies in them. I mentioned this to not only the general manager but the night duty manager and for the 3 days stay they still kept a big cobweb above the reception (hard to see in the photo) we then had the embarrassment of having a big cobweb with again multiple flies in it above our wedding cake in the venue room, this is something that should have been scrutinised over before any guests came back to the room, but again the staff are far too stretched. So during our time in the room just before our meal the night duty manager/Food and beverage manager/waiter (there was probably more roles he covered) had to come and hoover it up, this caused absolute embarrassment for myself and my wife in front of our guests. But back to the room, it could not have felt less special if they actually tried, it had mold all around the window, above the shower, and dotted about the room and bathroom, the ceiling was peeling and there was a eye catching yellow stain on the floor of the bathroom. Again all of this explained to the general manager/wedding planner and all she had to say was it’s due to be painted, but you should never paint over mold as this does not fix it, but simple patches it until it shows again. Now this was not only strictly in room 39 which we occupied but also the room I had myself on the first night 20, and 7, and nearly every room in my package which was around 10, and looking at reviews looks to be the case in almost every room. So if you have an breathing problems or a not very great immune system I would stay clear of this hotel until they can fully clear all the mold. Again covering majority of the rooms was how dirty the floor was, it looked as though they had tried to hoover with"
"Short notice stay at this hotel, for a very good price - db&b. Room nice enough, wifi good and the room was quiet, peaceful and had everything you would need. Price included an allowance to cover dinner, and the allowance easily covered a good meal. The food was excellent, quite a surprise for the price. Breakfast in the morning was equally good. Everything you would expect included. Overall, a very good stay, with excellent food quality, good service - and all for an excellent overall price."
"Had a two night break with breakfast and dinner on both nights. We were hesitant after discovering you could get rooms for as little as £30. However, we were very impressed. Agree with other reviews that staff are lovely. Food was superb! I am not going to take photos of a worn carpet or an outdated shower. This place functions just fine so I choose not to be picky. Yes, it does need tlc in places. However, its £30 a night and its clean and cheerful. Bargain!"

"There was 5 of us in our party, one couple with a child and another couple. This Premier Inn was ok. It felt more like a Travelodge to be honest. The staff we’re very welcoming but the room was a bit ropey. There was a gap in the window seal in our room which meant we were subjected to a high pitched noise when the wind blew. Unfortunately it was a windy night which meant the three of us kept getting woken up. I mentioned it to the staff the next day and were offered a free breakfast - there was no mention of a refund under the good night’s sleep guarantee. We had dined at the Beefeater restaurant, which is next door, the previous night and the food was really tasty and the 5 of us in our party loved every dish we had. Unfortunately the breakfast the next day was poor. Every bit of the cooked breakfast was cold and the potato hash was dry and crusty. It must have been a different set of staff on that morning compared to the previous evening. I have been to other Premier Inns and have never had a problem so we wouldn’t book to come here again as it seems a bit of a gamble as to what you may experience. The other couple we were travelling with had no problems with their room but their breakfast was also cold. We didn’t report the cold breakfast as we had already reported the issue in our room and I didn’t want to mention anything else. We just wanted to get on our way to our holiday destination. "
"We had a nightmare journey up so it was lovely to get a nice welcome. As we have come to expect from our previous Premier inn stays, the bed was lovely. Very comfy and lovely crisp white bed linen. Breakfast was excellent and the waiter/maitre de was very attentive. My only criticism would be the shower gel dispensers. I felt they were a bit cheap and it was positioned too low. Otherwise perfect for pulling off the M6 getting a good night's sleep before continuing our journey."
"Staff at the hotel are really kind and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. As we stayed on Valentines Day we all had a token pack of Love Hearts sweets on our beds! The kids loved this. The Beefeater restaurant is also very welcoming and good value. The breakfasts are lovely. We would certainly return. Thank you for a lovely stay."

Very nice we will be back at the end of the month . Room was a bit chilly but a heater was brought in . Very friendly and helpful staff ."
"We got moved to here, as the one we was ment to be staying in just along the road, the rooms where getting upgraded so the family rooms where closed off. Room had an strange lay out. TV was near the bathroom miles away from the bed. The lady who checked us in seem as she couldn't be bothered with us. The breakfast wasn't the usual good premier Inn standard, was only normal coffee no machine. The black pudding was horrible not the usual one we normally get.the sausages where cheap ones, the bubble and skweek was like mash. Wouldn't stay here again.. "
"Liked this premier inn as staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Large rooms comfortable and clean. In a nice area, easy access to amenities and main roads. Good parking and COVID safe. Would use this Premierinn again"

"The hotel is located in the town. The legendary "super delicious Chinese restaurant" is not very popular. There may be a Chinese food that foreigners think is Chinese food. Fried chicken wings and barbecued pork are OK. There is a supermarket not far from the hotel, which is convenient for shopping. The room was basically clean and tidy, but the hygiene of the bedding was really unsatisfactory. There was blood stain on the quilt."
"Breakfast needs to be paid separately. Parking is free. It is not easy to find at the beginning. In fact, it is in a shopping mall behind the hotel. The room has fleas and bites. This is the most disgusting thing!"
"The location is great and the BAR dining opposite is very tasty."

"Arrived at around 4pm, on checking in was asked for a swipe of my card which I handed over to then have the payment of the stay taken in full. Had every intention of paying and would have happily paid up from but that wasn’t what was requested at the time. We stayed in one of the Castle View rooms. The room was lovely, big comfy bed and bathroom large and clean with a great powerful shower. Despite a laminated note in the bedroom advising that towels etc were available on request without the need for somebody coming into your room it was never actually explained on check, or in the room that the rooms would not be serviced during the stay due to covid regulations. While this may be understandable it would have been beneficial when checking in to explain this and how to get clean towels, toilet roll etc and that the room would not be serviced. First night in Walton’s the meal and service were both fine. The second night we were left sitting for a long time before our drinks order was taken. When the meal arrived I asked for another drink and my partner asked for sauces, neither of which materialised until I went to the bar myself to chase them up mid-meal as it seemed near impossible to get any staff attention as they moved around. The service on both occasions at breakfast was poor and disorganised. We witnessed people coming in after us to have their orders taken and drinks and toast brought to them before our orders were taken. We weren’t in a hurry but we were left a long time sitting without the offer of tea / coffee. There no structure on who was serving where. At one point we were offered the table next to us breakfast. While all the staff were pleasant the default position seemed to be to apologise for poor service rather than try and get it right in the first place. Being overlooked and forgotten about once is understandable but 3 times out of 4 is not acceptable. We enjoyed the room very much but our stay was let down by the always pleasant but far too disorganised service."
"I travel frequently with my job and often stay in Premier Inns. Whilst they are good they are also bland and lack the personal touch. The Crown is different in so far as the staff are very welcoming and make your stay feel very special. The rooms are traditionally decorated and comfortable and very much in keeping with the beautiful village setting of Weatheral... a hidden gem in Cumbria..only 2 miles from the M6 yet tranquility guaranteed. The food and service have always been excellent. The breakfasts are freshly cooked using fresh high quality locally produced foods. The hotel also has a leisure facility with pool and gym. The prices represent excellent value for money. You will leave feeling refreshed and relaxed.. business or pleasure or a special occasion this hotel is perfect for all three. Thank you to all at the Crown . "
"We had dinner in the conservatory restaurant at the Crown Hotel. The menu was interesting and the food was well presented and delicious. The chef, Gavin, cooked the fish and lamb to perfection and there were lots of nice flavours on the plate. Food was served in a very timely manner. Staff were friendly and attentive but did not linger, due to Covid . Will, the operations manager, knew his stuff. He didn't need to check anything out about the menu or beers; he knew exactly what was available. They were also giving some kind of discount, an 'eat out to help out' type thing. This was an added bonus for us as we weren't expecting that. Plenty of hand sanitizer around and table spacing was good."

"We stayed for 2 nights in a small double, which was fine. Room and bathroom were clean, however the bed was very soft and uncomfortable. Woke up both days with a sore back. The location was absolutely perfect for us, and you walk out the front door to the main shopping area. The pool was closed due to COVID, but we knew that before booking, so wasn’t a problem. What annoyed us was that the family in our corridor next to room 144 were very noisy, and we were awake from about 6:30 with people coming and going and knocking doors constantly. We also booked breakfast, and it was a shambles. We ordered our tea/coffee, toast, cereal and cooked breakfasts all at once. It was only half full. The tea/coffee came and so did the toast. We then waited....and waited.....and waited for our cereal and OJ. I mentioned to a waitress and we then got our OJ, but then the cooked breakfast came and we hadn’t received the cereal yet. We just took the cooked meals as they would probably have just been reheated for us while we had our cereal. Not worth the money, and the portion size of beans was a bit cringey. I got a tastier breakfast in the Tesco on the way out of Carlisle for HALF the price. In summary, I would probably try somewhere else, which is a shame, as my first impression had been good. It’s a nice old fashioned building. Got parked at the back ok once we found the car park. You need to use the separate postcode (CA3 8HB) to find it, as the front of the hotel is pedestrianised."
"We opted for this hotel and wasn’t disappointed, needed to be close to Carlisle Hospital and this was only a ten min drive away. We felt so welcome on arrival and very Covid Safe. There was hot breakfasts, lunches and evening meals available for residents. The room was amazing (220) very clean and comfortable with great views of the city centre square. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return after lockdown for a romantic few days away. "
"My wife and some friends recently visited for the hotels murder mystery night..... cost was £32.50 per person with a 3 course meal included! It was a brilliant night..... food was good but the highlight was the team acting out the murder mystery... funny but intriguing. Thoroughly recommend this night.... whens the next one?"

"Carlisle Central Travelodge provided a comfortable stay with the main city centre street, Botchergate only a minutes walk away. The accommodation was excellent, sporting their bright red bathroom, a personal favourite of mine. The staff were excellent and accommodating. My only gripe is the fact that WiFi remains chargeable at Travelodge when this is standard within almost all other hotel chains. On this occasion, we had booked during a promotion therefore not a huge issue however under normal circumstances, the room rates Travelodge charge are comparable with competitors who do offer free WiFi."
"Booked last minute: Quieter than normal, no seating in reception area due to Covid. The young man on reception was very polite and helpful, room was clean and comfortable. The young man cleaning in the morning Ethan helped with my bag to the lift, very nice young man. Hotel is what you pay for, not luxury, cheap and cheerful. The few staff we saw were all polite and helpful. All round pleasant place to stay. "
"Love a travel lodge! Huge room, fresh decor and whole corridor and room all lemon fresh! Beds so comfy I'm glad of the late check out! Reception staff friendly and welcoming too. Fab location in the town centre too and close to all restaurants and bars. Definitely will come back :-) "
