"My husband and I stayed at the Amansara just last weekend for a short staycay during the Covid-19 period (oh they take extra precautions at the property, taking temperatures of guests twice a day, offering masks and hand sanitizers at all times) when Siem Reap has hardly any tourists. It was our first Aman stay and WOW, we are now looking forward to checking out their other properties worldwide. A masterpiece of Khmer architecture, I fell in love with the courtyards upon checking in, the tranquil environment in the heart of Siem Reap will bring your restful soul peace and serenity despite the hustle and bustle around. Sadly they were running on low occupancy (just 1 other guest during our stay) so we got upgraded to a pool suite and offered a super late check-out. The spa was closed but we utilised the gym a couple of times, I must say it's well equipped, and one of the best gyms I've ever been to with state of the art machines. Food was AMAZING, go for their Khmer fare, it varies daily and never disappoints. I literally ate the same dishes everyday when I was there, Chef Daniel was superb, he took care of my food allergies & even shared the rice noodle and porridge recipes with us. For some meals we ordered room service and we were impressed with how the different courses were served just like in the restaurant, first they brought the appetizers, 15 mins later the main dishes came, lastly the dessert. I was picked up by an old school Mercedes Benz from the Sofitel where I was residing at prior, the ride was short but it added to the experience. The property actually offers a range of activities- they change it on a monthly basis depending on season and weather, unfortunately most were suspended during our stay due to Covid so we only managed a short tour of Angkor Wat and some of the surrounding temples, which was good enough for us. The most memorable was how they managed to take my spectacles to an optician to get it fixed over an hour and the effort made by Bunsak, their front desk manager who managed to find us a driver at the very last minute when we departed as our personal driver backed out. These little touches added to our Aman experience, yes it comes with a price but it's definitely worth it for the impeccable service rendered by each and everyone at the Amansara. I miss my home already, thank you Astrid, Daniel, Bunsak, Lohn, Bunheouom, Rata, Sokhy, and Sri Aun for your hospitality and care. Hope our paths will cross again soon! Best wishes, Bong Alison & Bong Steven from Suite 14 (27-29 March)"
"We recently had a very quick two night stay at Amansara. It is a stunningly simple property. As with all of our other Aman stays, the service was great. With your room you have a dedicated guide and driver for your entire stay for excursions to Angkor Wat and the other temples. Our guide ‘Cun’ provided great history and was a fabulous photographer. In fact, I just let him keep my iphone most of the time and he would get the best angles and lighting. I also appreciated that despite it being his backyard that he was showing us, he was still in awe of the temples. Even for a quick trip into Siem Reap, the driver waits for you, regardless of how long you want to explore. Amansara also makes every drive fun – from the vintage Mercedes that once belonged to the king, to jeeps and beautiful remorques. The restaurant is lovely and has a menu that changes nightly. Both nights we ate the Khmer food and it was fantastic. Usually I notifiy hotels ahead of our stay that my husband is gluten free, however this time I forgot. To our surprise, when we sat down to our first meal they greeted us already knowing it, apparently from a profile of preferences they share among Aman properties.. Chhunny, Sarak and Lonh were so pleasant and attentive. During our last meal I asked Lonh what one of the components of my dish was – he answered and asked if I would like the recipe. When I jumped at the offer he asked if there were any other recipes that I would like as well. He knew we were leaving within an hour and before our departure he had the executive chef, Daniel Horn, prepare all of the recipes! In addition to the temple tours we did an evening sunset cruise on Tonal Sap. It was a great evening that allowed us to see a fascinating floating village, learn about the importance of the lake to the region and also have a romantic time watching the sunset. Chhunny did a great job making sure we were comfortable, our wine glasses were full and providing a nice assortment of appetizers. We really enjoyed our brief stay at Amansara."
"Not all Aman hotels are the same. This one is distinctive for its physical appeal and its brilliant management from Madame Astrid and her team. It is compact, based on a historic property, in a fabulous location, run by wonderful people from top to bottom, with delicious food, with every consideration thought of before you realise it. What a pleasure. Siem Riep is the city for seeing Ankor Wat and many other Khmer temples and ruins. All of the sight-seeing was handled with style and thought. Our picnic on a long day away was outstanding too - stylish and with such kind thought behind it. What a delight to have stayed there. Thank you everyone. One warning - if your friends tell you about a restaurant they really like in Siem Riep say thank you and ignore their kind advice. Eat at the Amansara as the food, both western and Khmer, is delicious there."
