593 Wheatley Lane Road, Fence, Lancashire, United Kingdom
"What a fantastic find, amazing rooms, unbelievable customer service and an absolutely fab breakfast. We only stayed for one night but we will be back. My wife and I couldn't fault anything, arriving mid afternoon the room was all ready. We were eating out at The White Swan up the road but we could easily have booked in at the Fence Gate Pub. Reception were kind enough to get a cab for us to the Swan and were very welcoming on our return. The Nights sleep was excellent only surpassed by the stunning breakfast! Enjoy!!"
"The hotel is small in size but with top end city centre quality, well decorated with comfortable beds and perfect bathrooms. Real fires add to the ambience, old word feel and modern facilities great. Meeting and conference facilities are good, food an refreshments similarly so. Warm and genuine staff members exemplify this, whether the cleaner I chatted with as I arrived early, hotel and pub staff, or our event contact. They all leave a positive impression, and a smile. Leisure or work, you can’t fault it."

The staff were all very friendly and efficient? Breakfast well cooked and included a Good selection In addition to the Full English, cereals, smoked salmon all egg types ,yoghurts and fruit were available croissants etc Our room had a superking sized bed. All immaculate. "

Eagle and Child, 3 Whalley Road Ramsbottom, Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
"We chose the Eagle and Child as it is dog friendly, close to country walks and had a great choice of vegan food. We had a fantastic stay, our room (the Eagle Owl) had everything you could want and more. The fridge was stocked with complimentary drinks and there were snacks and fruit to help ourselves to. There was even a dog bed, bowls and treats for our Molly. Downstairs we sat in the snug. I had the pak choi to start followed by mushroom risotto which were both AMAZING, there were plenty of gorgeous sounding options too. The staff were brilliant (we’re sorry about the dog barking at the bearded chap) and were professional. There was a young lad on a trial shift and a girl on her first proper shift and they were both fantastic. For breakfast I had a full vegan breakfast (reminded of the joke “who do you know if someone is vegan? They tell you all the time” yet?). It was sooooooo good. A couple of extra things would have made it perfect but this is by no means a criticism - the option of a dairy free spread eg sunflower or olive oil spread along with the butter for toast would have gone down well as well as some oat milk for morning brew. Neither are deal breakers but could be an easy win as could get some sachets of flora and some long life oat milk which needn’t be put out unless requested. I had a wander around the garden this morning too, it looks amazing and would definitely like to return in the Summer. Anyhoo, this was going to be a short post. WELL DONE EAGLE & CHILD!! You definitely deserve 5 stars. "
"Visited E&C last summer for an epic afternoon tea - delivered by Glen - such a professional- decided to revisit with friends for lunch today and had another top experience. The young man at the bar (sorry didn’t get his name) was the perfect host and made us feel very comfortable. The food we ordered was lovely (bread board while we waited for the mains and then steak pies and burger was perfect)-just need to say that we were introduced to Lancashire Sauce today - Loved it!!! Can only say E&C is a high end pub experience- not inexpensive but you get what you pay for and as far as we’re concerned the food was lovely and well worth the money as it is well cooked and very tasty - thank you. Visited the garden as we left and saw the Manchester Bee that we have passed so many times by the boating lake at Heaton Park! Will definitely be back "
"Do not believe the "soundproofed rooms" statement. We are staying here three nights (there was very little alternative locally immediately after Christmas). The first night was a little noisy at times but it is a pub and mostly it was OK. However, frankly, after tonight I am dreading the third night. There was a live music event tonight, which we were unable to attend - we tried but it was fully booked - so we thought we would stay in our room and watch television instead. Big mistake, the music from downstairs was so loud that we could not hear the television and the bass in particular made the crockery on the room table rattle. Fortunately it finished before 10, but after that the piped music in the bar went on loudly until 1.20 in the morning, which made a bit of a joke of the advertised 11pm closing time. I am now still awake, trying to get to sleep but I can hear people talking loudly downstairs. We won't be staying here again."

Nr Whalley, Little Mitton, Lancashire, United Kingdom
"I have been to Mitton Hall a few times now. I have not stayed there but been for meals. My sister lives in Windsor and had come up for a visit. We wanted to show her we have posh up north! We went as a family for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. But that is not why I’m writing this review. I have also been to with some people I support who have a learning disability. We have been a few times now and I have been so impressed by the staff who have served us. One of the ladies needs a soft diet. We have explained this when booking and the chefs have done her a special meal which has looked amazing and made her feel like she is not missing out. The ladies have been made to feel really special. The staff could not have been more helpful. The food is amazing and not expensive for the beautiful meal you are served. I can’t think of a better place to have a lovely meal. Thank you so much to the amazing staff who make every visit very special. x"
"We had received several emails to discuss our anticipated check in arrival time which became clear when we arrived as the hotel was hosting a Wedding Fare, no issue for us I expressed and we could arrive as planned and make use of the hotel bar areas. Reception seemed more than happy for these arrangements promising a bottle of Prosecco for our troubles. We decided on the Tappas for lunch when we arrived and the portion sizes or quality could not be faulted, service was a little delayed but obviously the Wedding Fare was taking up much of the staff time so we just enjoyed the open fire and many comings and goings. So we checked in late as agreed and had the Ribble Suite, good spacious room with all the usual amenities, separate large bathroom which is certainly in need of more heating at this time of the year other than the heated towel rail and we normally keep our rooms cool but this was rather too cool. We were eating out that night so only had the breakfast, usual fare of self service for juices / cereals etc and cooked breakfast to order and no real issues with food or service. The hotel looks imposing when driving in but I cant say that the whole ambience internally matched up and with regard to the promised Proseco.......... hmmm !"
"This majestic old hall has become a popular wedding and function venue, and seems to have retained its integrity. The food is pretty good for the numbers catered for, and the service excellent. The drinks are a bit pricey, but they have a well stocked bar. Great rooms, if a bit chilly, having said that when the heating was on it was warm enough. Water pressure is rubbish though, I don’t think it would rinse long hair! A minor downside to staying in an atmospheric old mansion!"

Gisburn, Clitheroe, Lancashire, Gisburn, Lancashire, United Kingdom
"I wanted to have a bit of a get-together for my 60th birthday and this resulted in my organising a party for 80 people which started at 3pm and finished at midnight! I am a bit of a stickler for detail but the staff at Stirk House took "detail" to a whole new level! As the date got nearer I met with and emailed Sarah (she is so suited to this job - excellent!) who asked me all sorts of details which at first I thought "why do you need to know all that?" The answer was simple - they took care of everything for me on the day - I really did not have to remember anything other than spending time with my guests! All dietary requirements were delivered to the correct people during the whole event (we had canapes, main meal and supper); there was the correct cutlery ready for me at the table I was having each course (I moved around the tables during the meal!) and I felt totally "looked after" the whole day"! Stirk House also has a unique strength in the form of Dave! This man not only ensured that on the day everything flowed but anticipated things before I had even thought about them! He even knew from memory who was sitting where and needed special attention! Needless to say that all the food was delicious and served at the correct temperature to every table, with many compliments from my guests! Seriously, I meant the heading of this review - This is THE place for your event!"
"My husband and I stayed here, in suite number 6, for our birthday night away. It was absolutely perfect. We were served by several members of staff at various times and all of them were incredibly friendly, polite and helpful. They seem the type of staff that genuinely want to make each guest have a wonderful stay in their hotel. This effort from the staff is the main reason we enjoyed our stay but on top of that the hotel it's self was wonderful. The lounge area was very comfortable with a lovely fire keeping everyone warm. We enjoyed drinks here and also some lunch. The food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was faultless and good value for money too. The suite we stayed in was immaculately clean and decorated and furnished to a luxurious standard. The only niggle we had was the jacuzzi bath couldn't be operated by the buttons and only by the mains, also the shower was weak. If they installed a new powerful shower the bathroom too would have had a lovely finish. We paid for dinner, bed and breakfast and honestly think the value for money was outstanding. We look forward to being able to return one day soon. Thank you Stirk House. "
"Stayed at the Stirk house for 2 nights. The staff at this hotel are absolutely excellent. You can tell that each one of them enjoys what they do. Especially Dave... What a gem he is. He made sure we were looked after from the minute we arrived until leaving. Louise on reception was excellent too. Really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The restaurant was lovely . We were offered the same seats both nights of our stay and we happy with this arrangement. The food was outstanding. I had the fillet steak one night and I have to say was exceptional. Breakfast was excellent too... the produce was fantastic and the staff at breakfast were really smiley and jovial... even in Covid times they made it look effortless and you could tell they enjoy what they do. The whole team work well together. We had afternoon tea also and this was delicious and good value for money. The room was massive, spotless and perfect for what we wanted. We had an excellent sleep and it Was lovely and quiet. Can’t wait to return. Thanks to all at the Stirk Regards liz and dave"

"My Sisters and I meet regularly for Afternoon Tea and have visited numerous venues over the years, including Foxfields. We had Afternoon in The Artisan Restaurant They have completely changed their approach to AT including gluten free ,which can be more miss than hit in the majority of venues. My sister always feels as if she is missing out , as she is gluten free, which she thought was amazing including the hot scone , rice pudding, and sticky toffee pudding and really lovely sandwiches and savouries. We also noted a vegan Afternoon Tea and also one suitable for children , which we saw at the next table ( looked gorgeous) For the rest of us (3) we had a the Afternoon Tea with fizz. When it arrived it looked delicious and tasted every bit as good. Warm crumbly scones, gorgeous little cakes, and some really lovely ‘different ‘ additions . Jack fruit spring roll ! I really didn’t fancy this but it was delicious. We completely forgot to take pictures , until we were finished. We also ordered from their extensive cocktail / mocktail menu. 3 water melon mocktails and one champagne cocktail. The service was really first class, Lots of interaction with both ladies who looked after us. The younger waitress was really friendly and efficient and The other lady assumed she was a Manager was clearly in control of this busy restaurant ( majority having Afternoon Tea- we visited on Saturday at 12pm ) We were not hurried or rushed and all of the items we couldn’t eat were packed up for us to take home. Thank you to The Chefs who prepared this yummy feast. I would highly recommend Foxfields and their new approach to Afternoon Tea. 5 out of 5 . We will definitely be back !"
"Booked a pet friendly room, which we were pleased with as it had a bedroom, bathroom and lounge with patio doors with access to outside to excercise our pet. Cost was £135 for the night including breakfast. The bed was comfortable. Energy saving lights in the bedroom over the dressing table area were too dim and the light over the mirror in the bathroom was not working. The fan in the toilet was also not working. A little dated, other than that acceptable but not a wow. Breakfast was in our opinion a little disorganised. The full english breakfast was buffet style. We were seated and shown the menu. We decided to have the full english and ordered tea for two expecting a pot of tea, but the waiter appeared with a jug of tea from which he poured us a cup each of what turned out to be lukewarm. We helped ourselves to the full english buffet which did look appetising, plates were warm and then we returned to our table, however toast was also help yourself, by the time I had used the toasting machine twice in order to get a slice that wasn't burnt, my tea was cold and also my breakfast. A waitress replaced our tea with two pots of tea thankfully. I recommend that guests choose a cooked to order breakfast in order to ensure that the food is freshly cooked and hot, and do your toast first and check that the settings havent been turned up to max by previous diners. Another small observation was that we picked up a Sunday paper from the restaurant, and asked at the reception if we could pay for it and was told that they were for the diners use and not for sale so we returned it to the dining room. As breakfast service was at an end we thought it was a bit unfriendly considering the people who left behind us had taken a paper and not offered to pay for it. Considering the price we felt the breakfast experience let it down along with the few items already mentioned. Not sure if we would return."
"Stayed at Foxfields for short break with 4 friends. Arrived lunch time, staff very friendly & efficient. Surprised how large & lovely the rooms were, picturesque views. Very comfortable with separate living area. We enjoyed a pleasant walk into nearby Whalley, which is a large, pretty village. In the evening we had an absolutely superb meal in Artisan, the hotel’s restaurant. The food was amazing & the service first class. We will definitely return to Foxfields & could not fault it whatsoever. Did not use the pool so cannot comment on this."

"A friend and I stayed at the Craven Heifer for one night prior to completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. On arrival the venue looks smart and well maintained from the outside and that continues inside and throughout. Our twin room was decorated to a high standard and was scrupulously clean. Bathroom included a waterfall shower which was easy to operate, always a bonus. Our room was in "The Barn' which was a separate building to the rear of the main Pub, but in case of rain even umbrellas were provided. Dinner was cooked to a high standard, the presentation of the food was lovely and portion size was spot on. Waiting staff were brilliant and courteous. Despite breakfast hours understandably being slightly later on a weekend the staff accommodated our desire for an earlier breakfast and this was also cooked beautifully. I can only recommend the Craven Heifer and I will look for an opportunity to stay there again!"
"Just returned from a lovely weekend in a fabulous inn which I can't rate highly enough. Check in was very quick which I put down to the present situation, quick directions to our room which was in a separate building and off we went. Our room was of a good size, very clean, nice view and good bathroom. Off for drinks on the patio, lovely area, great wait staff and a great place to wind down before dinner. The food in the restaurant is as good as any top class restaurants I've been in, and at a very good price, breakfast was again of the highest quality and made for a good start to the day. The staff were all very friendly, inn lovely and clean, room superb in a stunning location what more do you need for a great stay?"
"Just got back from a last minute weekend away with my husband, sister and brother in law. We stayed for two nights and we both stayed in the annexe buildings. Both rooms were absolutely beautiful, well stocked bathroom. Hair dryer iron and board on the room plus tea/ coffee making facilities. Well stocked tea coffees and hot chocolate and lovely biscuits. We ate at the hotel on the friday night and the food is very very good. Lots of choice and the same with the breakfast. Would definitely stay here again "

"We booked 2 rooms to stay over and we were overwhelmed with how great it was! High end finishes, lovely little touches, very comfy huge bed. Gorgeous views, very peaceful. lovely toiletries, everything about it was just great! Breakfast was absolutely spot on with a choice from a menu and every option you could possibly want with really high quality ingredients. I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon on toast, after cereals. The pub itself is lovely with great service and a big log fire. Its definitely worth a trip!"
"I booked this for our evening meal via their website. The place looked really nice, the reviews were good and the menu looked delicious. Although there were some small changes to the menu, this did live up to expectations.....in fact the food was far more enjoyable than I'd hoped. The staff welcomed us and were very friendly throughout. Like I said, the quality of the food was amazing and one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Reasonable price too. Highly recommended."
"Had a fantastic three day mini break at the 3 Millstones and cannot thank Mathew the chef and all his brilliant staff enough. Great service from start to finish. Excellent location, great amenities, comfortable and well presented rooms, and don't even get me started on the quality of the food in the restaurant, needless to say it was to die for ! Thanks guys for a terrific time. Look forward to seeing you again soon."
