"Table booked at 2.15pm for 3, 2adults-1 child, although I do thoroughly appreciate our child, although 12, will be 13 in May but looks decidedly 15 at least so an easy mistake by anybody but nevertheless the booking was 2adults,1child. We arrived bang on time and after a We arrived bang on time and after a couple of minutes were greeted by a man who checked our booking and said someone would be with us in a minute. After a good few minutes a lady came and again checked us off the list and said she would be back in an minute. After seeing both these people wander past us 2 or 3 times each, after 15 MINUTES we were eventually taken to our table and sat down only to wait yet again! We were asked if we would like to ‘upgrade’ to a champagne afternoon tea and my daughter explained that she had booked that anyway so warm champagne arrived almost immediately with 3 glasses as the 12 year old was going to be served with champagne even though the booking was CLEARLY made for 2 adults,1child but I do understand the 12year old looks way beyond her years but hey- read the booking!!! . Eventually at 2.55pm our food arrived but my daughter had specifically requested a ‘more savoury’ option for one as I don’t do cakes/scones or sweet stuff at all. This was agreed weeks ago, when booked with a manager and assured not a problem. When the food did arrive it was the normal selection so my daughter had to request that it was changed as per original booking. When it did arrive the substitute for cakes was 1 miniature pork pie,I mini sausage roll and 2 mini spring rolls. All 3 were inedible!!!! The pork pie and mini sausage roll were warm on the outside but stone cold in the middle. A definite NO-NO in anyone’s diet and the spring rolls were decidedly rock hard, as though they had been reheated from the previous evening, i know they should be crispy but not dark brown and rock hard. CHEF - you know exactly what you’ve done here - I’ve been in catering for a long long time so I know!!!! Eventually we were served with extra sandwiches as a substitute to the sweet stuff and it was LOVELY. The staff became very attentive and we had a lovely afternoon. I just wish that things had started on a more positive footing as the negatives may not have been so paramount. I have been before and enjoyed it but on this occasion you BADLY let yourselves down with very easily ‘fixable ‘ things. eg. Leaving us waiting for 15 minutes in the reception area Why didn’t you suggest we sit in the comfortable seats until you could attend to us properly? We were kept in that cold reception area for 15 minutes!! A long long time when you’re stood waiting, particularly when a specific time was made at the time of booking. When we were seated and the food brought, it was wrong to what was ordered. Again we waited ages and when it did come it was inedible!!!!!! For your part in this debacle it is so easily avoidable with communication and a bit more pride from your chef. I really don’t understand ho"
"On Saturday 7th March 2020 we decided to look for a luxury country house break for a few days. We typed into Google Luxury Country House Hotel, which resulted in this being one of the first hits. "Handpicked Hotels" sounded interesting so we sat and had a good long look at nearly all of their hotels, finally whittling it down to Rookery Hall and Stanbrook Abbey in Worcester. The final decision was made based on the online menu for Rookery Hall and we subsequently booked. So we booked to stay here from 11th Match - 14th March, Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal. We asked for Super King Size Bed, Separate Bath and Shower all of which we understand you pay for. This is not a cheap hotel, well maybe it should be, here's why. We arrived on the 11th and after checking in was shown to our room. After the porter had left we had a look around our "Luxury Country House Hotel" bedroom. Grubby, tired, living on old reputations all sprang to mind, Harsh you may think. The word "Luxury" does not conjure up windows that won't shut, lights switches that are so worn the "brass" had worn away and the switch actually looks grubby. Even more worrying in the light of recent news. A dirty pillowcase left on the bathroom window sill from housekeeping, which was reported within the hour but remained there nonetheless. Roller blind cord the was as tangled as a nest of vipers and an illuminating ( well no actually it didn't ) magnifying mirror on a broken gimbal so the mirror only faced downward. Useful to shave in if you are 3ft tall. The champagne requested was on ice in the room and as we both sat there drinking a glass we both admitted that it was not what we were expecting, but hey ho I am sure the lovely menu of food would more than compensate. Not so. We had booked to have dinner each evening at 7.15, because you have to book in advance, not sure why though the first ( and as it turned out ) and only night we stayed the restaurant was not even half full. When we were seated the menu arrived. It bore NO resemblance to the online menu. The fact that Handpicked Head Office Customer services manager pointed out to me is that it is a "Sample" menu not a definitive this is what you will get, it is illustrative of what we do. Well the dictionary defines "Sample" as a small piece of something, intended to show you what the "whole" will be. Just for clarity what she describes is "Example" and that is describing something that could have similar characteristics. Well the "Sample Menu" we looked at prior to booking had about 12 starters, mains and desert to choose from. Given that we are a couple staying 3 nights, that equates to 6 evening meals between us. So when you are presented with a menu that has 5 dishes per course to choose from and not the twelve in addition to which none of the dishes from the " Sample" menu are included, well it is understandable we were miffed. We raised this issue with the wait"
"Just leaving from our 1 night stay at Rookery, booked on a winter deal direct through the website! We are getting married here next year but this is the first time we have actually stayed over. Stayed in an executive double, the room was impeccable, with great facilities! We had a 5 course tasting menu on the night time which was beautiful. Breakfast the next day was fantastic, excellent choices on the menu not just the buffet to suit all tastes! Spent the morning in the spa facilities, the pool and spa pool which were really relaxing! Definitely going to book a treatment next time. All the staff we spoke to were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Special shout out to Emma our wedding planner for the bottle of champagne in our room which was a wonderful surprise! All in all a great visit, it’s made me even more excited to get married at this beautiful venue! Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so special! "

"Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights, I can not praise this place enough, cleanliness, service, staff, food, everything is 5 star. The whole place has a homely feel, smell of a proper wood fire, clean throughout, beautifully decorated. The room was perfect size, the bed was very comfortable, that bathroom clean and perfect, I asked the staff to arrange flowers and champagne for the room before my arrival and they were amazing. The restaurant was very cozy, the staff were very very friendly and helpful. I can not fault the food at all, absolutely everything we ordered throughout our stay was amazing, my only complaint is I couldn’t eat it all. I will be recommending the bears paw to everyone"
"We had late lunch here yesterday 23rd October. Had not booked but went in on the off chance. Not been before, so we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and seating arrangements. There seemed to be only 2 staff on, and they were quite busy with the tables occupied. Had to wait a while for our main meal, but it was worth it for quality and quantity. Took a while to get dessert, and was quite nice. Covid certainly does not help these pub/restaurants, and the 2 staff coped very well, under difficult conditions. Did not get the usual ' everything okay ? question, and def needs a 'front of house' person to ensure customers feel ' wanted', and not just a number. Otherwise, no ' complaints'."
"We stayed here recently for one night and loved it. We were travelling with our two dogs and they were made very welcome here. The room was superb, well maintained, super clean and spacious. Large comfortable bed also. The lounge and bar is great, lots of space and the staff were excellent. Food was excellent, probably the largest fish and chips i have ever had for a great price. Breakfast was also excellent. I would definitely visit here again and we plan too in the future."

"This is a restaurant review. Firstly the dining area is a bit far for people of limited mobility ESP car park. But thats my only gripe The place itself is actually quite nice. Drove past it for years, as lived in Alsager and surrounding Areas. When you do get to the foody bit its a right trek, its a two level job. Point blank refused to go upstairs (Moi had Numpty Head on, more later). Nope ground floor and well nice room, old oak beams, looking out at the entrance of the golf course, seating a bit tight, but we are big boned. Seats are actually nice, solid if for my ample bum cheeks a bit tight. But thats my fault. Anyhoo, food choice, was to be frank a bit limited, I think not in the hotels control, Having said that no probs from me. I had the Vietnamese stir fry starter, with noodles. Now its kind of hot. Just enough. Rather nice. Wiffy had a pate on toast, which to be fair looked good. Well apparently it was not toast was not toastly enough, but your eating it. Server was mortified (And service is really good, cant Knock it) So much so said Free coke refill for Wiffy. Well I thought fair enough Main course, Wiffy had a chilli, and well mint Moi had a little chicken dish. Portions are a bit small, if you a hungry Hippo. However the quality is very good, I mean Really good. Cant fault it. Beers again limited, but the two I had, top notch. Service again top gun. Go back again as well it was mint"
"We would like to thank Jack ,Jess and all the staff for working tirelessly to enable our daughter to have her ceremony this morning. As of 5pm last night it was all off, however with a few frantic phone calls by Jack and ourselves we were able to rearrange to an earlier time and hold the ceremony. We will be returning to this beautiful hotel to have a party as soon as possible under the present situation that’s occurring. Jack you and your team have made Lauren’s dream come true today and we cannot express our gratitude sufficiently in a few words . You went above and beyond in your efforts to help us thank you . Food fantastic , rooms beautiful and even after staff having received devastating news about the endorsed hotel closure from the government.... they continues to be professional , caring and extremely helpful in these worrying times. You truly have an amazing team thank you to you all . We wish you the best of luck in the coming weeks - months . Debbie and Dave Clark "
"This is the second time we've stayed at this hotel - we found it the first time when our son was on a scout camp nearby - and decided to return as a family for a short break. The room this time was large and well-appointed. The cleanliness and attention to social distancing that the hotel staff have taken was very reassuring in this tricky time for the industry. The food in the Stable Grill and Bar is exemplary in its quality and the service is also excellent - very attentive and discreet staff. Whilst the gym was not available, the pool was open to guests only (although changing was restricted to bedrooms with robes and slippers provided due to COVID) so we enjoyed a quiet family swim before our evening meal. Thank you."

"I stayed here this week and was so impressed with every aspect. The service was great, everyone was so friendly and helpful. The chef for breakfast was so attentive and lovely. My room was cosy and I couldn’t wait to get to bed. The bed and pillows were perfect. The bathroom was modern and clean. The bar was very cosy with an open fire burning. I stay at hotels a lot and this was the loveliest home from home. Although I live a long way away, I would absolutely come back and will be telling everyone about it."
"Have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Swan Inn. Rooms are clean and well presented and contain everything you will need. Food - Huge breakfast, set us up for the day. Dinner - We ate in the pub on both nights. food was excellent and served by very friendly staff. Will return in the future, Thanks to all the staff."
"Overnight business stay - rooms are in annex at the back of the pub and are a reasonable size and well furnished if perhaps looking a little tired in places (at least in my room). Only real criticism was the noise - the guy next door turned his TV on at 0600 and it was very clear to hear through the wall..........I guess others must have complained about this previously as there were ear plugs provided in the room - something I've never encountered before!"

"I was able to get the one accessible room on the ground floor for my recent stay. I found the room very good with a very comfortable bed. The staff were very helpful and were happy to come to the room to help me close windows and adjust the heaters. I thought I was hearing things on Saturday morning when I heard a steam locomotive whistle and when I got to the station its was Britannia sounding off. I must admit if you don't like external noise having a room very close to the station may not be good for you but for me if wasn't a distraction to stop me sleeping. "
