"WOW! Where to start? My fiance and I booked a 2 night stay at the Cleveland House Inn through AirBnB and got a great deal. The night before we were supposed to leave for our trip I called the front desk to inquire about the parking situation and if we would need to bring bath towels or not. Thewoman who I spoke to asked for my name and date of stay so that she could verify my reservation, which she did. She then asked what time I would be checking in, but told me it was more than okay to check in before our scheduled 3pm time and that she would see me tomorrow. Please keep in mind before you continue reading - we live 4 hours away from Newport and we had this booked for over a month. My fiance and I were packing our things in the car when we received a call from Rick, who claims that this reservation must be "fraudulent" (his words, not mine!) and that there was a mistake and we would not be allowed to stay and the room was no longer available. I asked him what happened, obviously concerned that the MANAGER AND OWNER OF THE INN is claiming this is fraudulent and is using his information on AirBnB to give people discounts. Well, if anyone at all who knows how AirBnB works knows this is a lie. Only Rick himself could create this listing on their site as he needed to verify that he is a real person - this means he needed to provide his license/government ID and other personal information only he would have. Rick then changes his story and tells us that if we want to stay at the Cleveland House we need to pay more money. We were obviously unwilling to pay more since we already paid and confirmed this reservation. Because we said no, Rick thought he was doing us a favor by telling us he can get us a room at a hotel 20 min away in Middletown, which was disgusting and also double the price per night. Again, we refused; we booked with Rick, why should we go somewhere else and pay more money? I cannot describe how RUDE, ACCUSATORY, AND DEMEANING Rick was to me, my fiance, my mother who tried to call and help us out. He became demeaning by calling us "idiots" and that "we would regret this". He also said he would "maybe give [us] a refund". I've never experienced such HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL customer service, or lack thereof. I then spent literally 8 hours on the phone with AirBnB and my bank to try to get a refund and write a complaint about Rick. The unbelievable part is that Rick would not answer either of their calls. I believe he didn't check the prices he listed on AirBnB until the morning of, knew it was a holiday weekend and also Newport, where someone else would be foolishly willing to pay more money. A few things I want to make a point of here: 1. If this was "fraudulent" wouldn't Rick be more concerned that someone is claiming his identity and somehow hacking his computer reservation system. 2. Let's play Devil's Advocate and assume that Rick truly doesn't know how AirBnB works, isn't the customer always right? How is a mistake that YO"
"Stayed for one night and was super easy to check in/check out. The Inn owner (Rick) greeted us, upgraded our room to a king for free, led us to a spot to park, gave us some good advice and then a lady showed us to to the room (which was in the next door property). Our room was on the 3rd floor (no elevator) but that’s not an issue for us and the owner checked to ensure that was ok. The room was clean and comfortable. Absolutely no complaints. The Inn is in a perfect location in the center of town - walking distance to everything. Bonus: my husband forgot his wallet in the room and we called enquiring abt it an hour after we checked out. Rick called back within 10 mins letting me know they had the wallet and it was in a safe space. Overall very happy with our stay!"
"Rooms are small but intimate. Great breakfast, walking distance to movie theater, downtown area, shops, etc.... Robert the caretaker, great person, easy to work with. We strongly recommend this place if you are in the Northeast.."
