We have had an absolutely amazing stay at Ramside to celebrate my 50th Birthday. We stayed in a treehouse which was utterly superb and took my breath away!! Beautiful interiors and furnishings along with wonderful outdoor area with your own hot tub and sauna...a truly wonderful experience. The service is second to none. The concierge was literally on tap to take you to and from the main hotel. Nothing was ever a problem. The main Spa pool had plenty of seating and limitless supply of towels, robes and flip flops to make you relaxed and comfortable. The Fusion Restaurant was fabulous too. 9 of us ate at the restaurant, the food was served piping hot in beautiful Asian inspired bowls and plates and looked utterly mouthwatering and tasted delicious, we couldn't fault it....The cocktails are gorgeous too I can highly recommend the strawberry breeze for any gin lovers out there! Wow!! A huge thank you, to the wonderful dedicated staff at Ramside, for making our weekend just perfect and one to remember...We will be back!!

Enjoyed experience. Took advantage of a paid for upgrade and the room was excellent. Generally, the upgrades were great (free parking), however, as part of the upgrade we got drink vouchers (6 x drinks per couple over two days). This was a bit footery as the choice of drinks was very limited (either bottled beer or glass of certain wines). I prefer draught beer and my wife doesn't partucularly like wine so we struggled what to choose. Buffet breakfasts are either hit or miss and on this occasion our experience was plenty of choice but the hot Buffet was luke warm at best. That said it is a really good hotel in a great location and catered for all our needs

The drive up to the castle was was fantastic as the view of the castle looked stunning. The entrance to the court yard for parking was quaint and inviting. The look of the court yard looking at all the out buildings looked inviting and very well presented. The “stocks” make for great entertainment The entrance to the reception is like looking for the secret door but the plaque at the side with history information explains why and is interesting to read. Inside the reception is is quite dark but this for me added to the ambience of the place. The staff where welcoming, polite and explained the hotel set up. We stayed in one of the room in the courtyard which was beautiful. Very nicely decorated and good value for money. The room was cozy. We’d booked to have a meal in the Knights Restaurant and we had pre drinks in the bar first The walk to the restaurant through the corridor into the central courtyard was very different yet beautiful. It’s so old and it was nice to see it was decorated and kept within “keeping” The bar again was inviting and cosy and it was great to see that the drinks and wine list was very reasonably priced. So often places know you are a target audience and inflate the prices ridiculously however in our opinion the castle had not done this. There was a good choice of cocktails and the “smoked” cocktails added that something a little bit different and we didn’t mind paying a few pounds more for the “quirkiness”. Again the staff where very professional, friendly and well presented. The walk from the bar/lounge area to the Knights Restaurant was stunning through the corridors of the castle and past a lovely looking staircase and when we walked into the restaurant I was overwhelmed as it was stunning and not what I was expecting. The arched ceiling, the lighting, the privacy of how the tables where set out we felt was very nice. We thought it all created a romantic setting. It was very secluded but included. The menu choice was good and the food was beautiful. The service was great too and again the staff were very professional, polite and very well presented. The prices on the menu varied so I would say they’d catered fo most people’s budget and it was your own choice on how much you spend Our nights sleep was comfortable and the walk back from the restaurant to the courtyard was well lit but again in keeping with been in a castle environment. Great use of mood lighting. My husband even went into the stocks on the was home (🤣) Breakfast the next morning again did not disappoint. The selection was fantastic and plenty of food to choice from Overall we can can not fault our experience. It was a lively venue with great facilities and very well presented. The staff where Courteous, polite, friendly and very well presented. I would recommend this as a place to go and stay. We must go back so we can stay in one of the castle rooms as I am sure they would be as good and maybe even more “quirkier” than the courtyard rooms which were very nice.

My partner decided to book this gaff as we're visiting again later in the year as guests to a formal function. Firstly I must say, I could not fault the Staff, especially in the Rib room, the young ladies especially were very pleasant and attentive with none stop smiles. The food to be entirely honest was just ok, especially considering the price, I had the Chicken which came with a Hash brown sized portion of fondant mash and a slice of black pudding with broccoli ( al dente) luckily I had ordered a side of fries or Deliveroo would have been arriving later that evening 🤣🤣. The Chicken was moist and tasty, the black pudding fine, the mash was fairly none descript. , my partner had the Fillet Steak and said it was Beautiful! Our starters and desserts by the way were fine. The room was large, with a large en-suite, nice large oval bath with plenty of hot water, like wise the large shower, but the drainage had been poorly thought out and did attempt to flood the bathroom floor 🙄. One major bad point, which is a Health and Safety issue, was that the Bedside built-in reading lamp housing (metal) after being used for some time became so hot I burnt my hand attempting to switch it off, as the toggle is at the back behind the lamp housing 😡, this would hav caused a small child a serious burn. I did mention this to staff upon leaving. The bed was v.big and comfy, tv fine etc. Drinks expensive to be honest as im old and loath paying over the odds for regular drinks etc. Breakfast was very fast, actually probably the fastest I've ever been served 😳, but I've had better in a £50 B&B, the bacon was under done, and my partner and I shared one mushroom and one slice of black pudding, really not even one each! Come on Hardwick hall, you can do better. Would I stay here again, no probably not, unless I got a great offer, which this was, apparently 🤔 anyway we both had an enjoyable evening, shame there's no pool, gym etc, which I find particularly disappointing for such a large premises.

More like a club 18-30 experience. The hotel was fantastic, food excellent and staff went way, way beyond. However, the main function of a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep. The hotel had two weddings on the night of my stay and between 12:45 and 14:30 I was unable to sleep for the screaming, laughing, partying that was going on throughout the corridors. I never heard any staff trying to resolve the situation, just plenty of noise. I had to pay £20 surcharge for my dogs to stay and they were not allowed In the restaurant - which is very reasonable, but have to say that they were better behaved that the other animals who were not required to pay any surcharge or not required to follow any basic behavioural rules. On checkout, I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. I assume the staff did not want confirmation of their mismanagement. If this is the sort of establishment used but Trip.com, then I can only say first impressions go a long way and I will stick to other hotel brokers in future.

Second visit to this great hotel in an historic building. Reception staff are consistently excellent, friendly and helpful (apologies I am not sure of the girl who helped us out during our stay, but she was super professional). Restaurant staff are also super - front of house, and all the team superb. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The bar is fab and a great space to relax. Only one minor suggestion is to give the coffee bar staff some professional barista training - it’s a plus point for the hotel to have a good coffee bar.

First time in Durham. The indigo hotel was fabulous. Attention to detail was amazing. The room was stunning. Breakfast was gorgeous. Lots of choice.. all staff were professional and friendly. Great location..not easy to park at the hotel as the carpark is small.. We dined in the Marco pierre white restaurant for our evening meal which was amazing and great value for money.

Good value if you stay for 7 plus nights on a long stay rate. Was happy with the size and facilities in my Queen room, however it was very hot and the aircon didn't work. The hotel is set in different (linked)buildings and one of the buildings was noticeably hotter both times I've stayed there in April and May. Both times the hotel upgraded me to a room on the riverside which is much cooler (with working air con) and with a view of the river. The housekeeping staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of choice for breakfast and buffet kept topped up. Really enjoyed my stay - both times. Great location too!

Hotel located in a perfect location for walking Durham. Close to town shops, cathedral, castle and a 15 min walk to the train station. Room fine, breakfast really good, the only let down bring the poor shower. Definitely not designed for a six foot person and really the only let down.

Location of this hotel is fine. Parking is possible nearby for payment. Goes to the center. Under (bar and breakfast room) is very cleanly renovated. (probably they do everything step by step) Breakfast surprised that we didn't expect for this price. (different options to choose) nice staff. The price is very low. This will be because the rooms/bathrooms really need a make-up. Bed is fine and lakens/towels clean. Floor cover is very dirty, never drawn at the dressings. Lamp is full of dirt. There is 'reinforcement' ... but no idea when they did this. Hair dryer stood there, not present. You can't go to shower without getting her wet. We have been very well sleeping for really a super low amount! Fortunately this makes it good. + breakfast was really good.

Ideally located for all amenities and bars. Parking is available locally in the surrounding streets which is payable at the street meters. The room was basic but clean (could do with updating) but no issues found. Access to the hotel after closing hours is via the fire escape at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was included in the price and was more than adequate…hot and freshly cooked. All in all I’d recommend this place as a good place to stay if you are wanting a night out in Durham
