We stayed here for one night in mid-January and found it to be a wonderful location, right in the heart of the old city. We were walking distance to the port, areas of the old town, and many attractions and plazas. The staff was very friendly and happy to answer questions in English, recommending restaurants and sights to see. They were also happy to hold our luggage for us the day we checked out until our afternoon departure. Each room is apparently unique, and ours was beautiful, with a comfortable bed and an obviously updated bathroom with modern fittings and conveniences. Our room was on the first floor (one above ground level) and we did hear some road noise in the morning as the city started walking, so if you're concerned about noise you may want to request a higher floor. Breakfast was included in our stay and had very good options, both hot and cold.

We spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood. It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything. The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites. Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!

Breakfast was not too good but acceptable. No extra beds should be possible. There should be no problem with children and the location is quite good, next to the sea, the sea view room looks good. There are parking spaces, not many.

A small hotel with a big heart. The staff are lovely and generous. A special shout out to Federico who shared one of his own books on Montevideo with me and Sebastian with the sweet disposition (both at reception). Loved the mid century modern flourishes throughout the property. Also thanks to the restaurant staff who went to great lengths to accommodate my meal requests and always cooked up lovely, stylish, and flavorful dishes. I felt so coddled and look after by the hotel and its personal touch. For the price, it's an awesome find. Hotel staff were so helpful in assisting me to plan my days and provide advice on getting around the city. In terms of areas for improvement, the rooms are a bit small (nothing you can really do about this one) but make up for it with style and comfort. The housekeeping was a bit uneven and I was never quite sure what would be cleaned that day. I've noticed this as a problem at many hotels during and immediately after the pandemica and I suspect is due to staffing challenges leftover from the pandemic. Therefore I imagine it's an issue that will sort itself out as the pandemic recedes into the rearview. This was nothing alarming, BTW, but a slight area for improvement. Also, there was one receptionist who needs to do a slightly better job hiding his annoyance at dealing with non-Spanish speakers. Would definitely recommend this place.

The hotel is connected to a shopping centre for shopping and dining. The hotel is very close to the La Plata River and only takes 3 minutes on foot. The hotel is fully equipped and the breakfast is hearty.

Hotel personnel go the extra mile to make you feel confortable, specially Jose and Armando where very helpful. Saly the hotel owner does not care for the customer. It is more like a stay for peole that will be at s wedding or party. So do not spect to rest Thursday, Friday and Satruday night. Parking is free but these days mentioned above there will not be any. I will not recommend this hotel foe your visit business or pleasure. Towels had holes and shower was nasty. It need a big deal of improvement and quietness is not part of their priorities. Internet is slow. Breakfast was ok but thw coffee was horrible.

The hotel is quite recommendable for the conditions in Uruguay. The rooms are clean and everything works. Likewise, the breakfast is really good. What is not good, however, are on the one hand the rooms that are oriented to the Rambla Republica De Mexico. The single glazed windows give you the feeling of sleeping in the middle of a busy street. Another criticism: I had ordered a shuttle to the airport at 8:30 am. I was downstairs five minutes before the time. According to the lady at the front desk, the car - which was from the hotel - was supposed to be on time, it wasn't. First I was told to wait five minutes. After a delay of 15 minutes then supposedly another three minutes and then several times ”in one minute he is there”. In the end, he was 30 minutes late.
