"We have stayed at this property twice in the past two years. It is a great value and in a good location. It is convenient to shopping and restaurants that are within walking distance. The availability of one-bedroom king suites with en suite bathroom are perfect for our family. The hotel and the rooms are always clean. The lobby is your typical Courtyard lobby with lots of common spaces for people to relax. I usually don't use the computers in the lobby as they are unreliable, but having to print tickets for the Iowa Wild games that weekend I needed to use the printer. I was thankful that the printer, at least one of the two anyway, was working. There is plenty of free parking on all sides of the building. The hotel is located close to I-35, I-235, and I-80."
"Tammy, a multi-role employee who seems to be everywhere, practically doing everything, exhibits such vibrant passion for excellence and warm professionalism in all she does that she consistently exceeds expectations I have of an already great hotel chain! She is truly a benchmark-able employee that could write a book on second mile service! Because she cares so much about serving others, she does it incredibly confidently and authentically! The facilities were all exceptionally clean and up to date... wonderful place to stay within easy walking distance of shopping and good restaurants."
"Pleasantly surprised! While the hotel is a bit older, it is well maintained. The staff is excellent. So friendly and accommodating. They all really provided quality service and made guests feel comfortable. The shuttle pick ups and drop offs were timely every single day! Kirk/Kurt Stanton, Tammy, and all who worked in the bar were amazing. Cocktails and meals were delicious. Egg Frittata, avocado toast, burger, grilled chicken, Brussels sprouts were delicious! Well done Courtyard!! "

"First the positives: Polite and helpful staff. Super clean premises, attractive design and extremely straightforward layout - easy to find the elevator and your room. The room has a fold out couch that can convert into a bed. The shower seemed high quality with overhead and handheld shower heads. USB ports all around the room make it easy to charge your phone and other electronic devices. Signing into the complimentary wifi was a breeze. Room fridgs kept beverages frosty and the air conditioning maintained the temperature perfectly. The hotel was pretty booked for various events, but we didn't hear any sound from neighboring rooms whatsoever. The elevators limit access to floors other than 6 (bar floor) to people who have room keys. Neutral: On-site parking was sold out, but it was only $10 for overnight parking a block away, so not so bad. Shower only - no bathtub. Not so great: Iowa doesn't require masks, so staff is inconsistent about wearing them. Front desk and cleaning staff were not wearing masks, but bar staff and on day two the front desk person did. On July 11th, they offered complimentary muffins and milk, but the milk said "best by July 8th" on the cartons. The bed was on the very firm side to the point of being uncomfortable as a side sleeper. The elevators seemed to be extremely slow even at non-peak usage times. In the morning (high-traffic time) we just gave up and used the stairs."
"I frequent the Marriott brands and this is a nice boutique hotel located in the trendy East Village that is within walking distance to the active and Historic Court District. Immediately around the hotel, the East Village offers plenty of boutique shopping and restaurants as well as the Principal River Walk, Meredith Trail and the John Pat Dorrian Trail for an easy walk, bike or run. Yes, on-site parking is $18, but street parking is free overnight and plenty was available. We stayed here in late September and all staff member we encountered were wearing a mask. An inviting and spacious lobby and sitting area has a pool table and small bar for hanging out for the night or something to do before going somewhere else for dinner. We were given a room with a nice view looking onto Grand Avenue and because it is only a 5 story hotel, the stairs were perfectly suited for an easy walk to our room, no elevator is necessary. It also features a little market if you have a craving as well as a wine opener if you wish to have a nightcap with your own bottle of wine. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the only two negatives was the price of parking (which I didn't use) and the TV does swivel out from the wall. So watching TV while sitting on the couch is a little difficult."
"This is the only place to stay when you visit Des Moines. Super clean hotel, even elevator to every detail of the room was spotless. I love how spacious the rooms are. I had plenty of areas to spread out my clothes in my room and hair products in bathroom. So many plugins. I was able to charge all of my devices. My room had everything I needed. Each staff member I ran into was attentive and helpful. I paid for underground parking but if you’re doing business within 5 miles, the shuttle will take you. I also dinned at their two bars, the AC Lounge and The Republic. The have skilled mixologists and wonderful food. This is the best hotel in Des Moines "

"Firstly, the location is great, it's near the East village and within walking distance of some great eateries etc. Also, the bed was very comfortable; we both slept really well. Although somewhat dated elsewhere in the common areas, the fountains in the lobby were very nice and calming. Our main issues were the poor customer service and the hotel's dirtiness. In our room there were crumbs and hairs in the bathroom and beside the bedside tables. Also, I found a used, damp towel in the living room, in a cabinet. At one point we had a lightbulb replaced and the amount dusk that fell from the fixture was embarrassing for the maintenance person. We're not over the top with cleanliness by any means; however, our friends from the wedding party also noted the excessive dirtiness throughout. Wherever you went it was noticeable: elevator carpets needing vaccumed, dirt in the garage hallway for the duration of our stay, and finger prints on the mirrors and windows. I have never experienced this at an Embassy. Lastly, the customer service was bad: we did not feel welcomed by the staff at all. This hotel needs an upgrade badly."
"We just concluded a stay at this property and first I want to share how absolutely wonderful the staff is. Everyone we encountered was helpful, happy and pleasant. I will also say the location is ideal for walking just about anywhere in downtown. The property itself is worn, beaten up and disappointing. While the common areas were clean and well kept, the rooms were another story. Our first room had bubble gum on the ceiling while having a Lysol clean sticker sealing the door. After reporting this we were promptly moved to another room. In both rooms though, the furniture was very worn and extremely tattered. The bathroom door was splintered and had holes in it. I don't think they have ever remodeled. Just disappointing and gloomy in the rooms. Hilton, you have a great team of employees but there is only so much they can do with a run down facility. Unfortunately we won't stay here again."
"We enjoyed a couples weekend at the Embassy Suites in downtown Des Moines. You cannot go wrong staying here. Great staff, complimentary evening reception and breakfast, shuttles service, and comfortable rooms. This is the place to be."

"Our stay at this hotel was a great experience until breakfast. One of the breakfast staff treated hotel guests very rude. I felt uncomfortable at breakfast. Other than that, this hotel has a great location, great front desk staff, great rooms, etc. I would stay here again but am nervous about upsetting breakfast staff about accidentally leaving a lid open or accidentally spilling something. I couldn’t imagine if I had my kids at breakfast with me."
"My wife and I checked in on a Thursday afternoon and left the hotel for dinner with our daughter who goes to school in Des Monies. When we returned to our room my wife decided to shower for the night and was surprised to find that where was no hot water. We both managed to shower while telling each other we would ask for another room the next morning. The next morning the hot waster was working so we decided (really ignored) not to ask to change rooms. To our surprise when we returned that evening no hot water again. This time I went to the front desk to inquire as to the reason for no hot water. I was told it came back on after four days of being out in the morning and it must have gone out again. Imagine not being told when you check that there is no hot water.....this is exactly what happened. The gentleman at the desk said he couldn't do anything about it and the manager would be on duty from 11 PM to 7 AM and I should come speak with him. Really convenient times for the manager to be working. Luckily the water resolved itself before the end of our stay. (As and aside the gentleman on duty said it was an issue between management, owners, and the Marriott brand. In my opinion the hotel may be attempting to fall below Marriott standards and change their franchise affiliation.) When I checked out I was told that I would be given 25K points for my difficulties. No points yet. Thanks Marriott."
"We stayed at this hotel in May 2020 during the Covid crisis. Although, the Covid rules were very lax in Iowa, I noticed that many chain businesses were being responsible - Not the Residence Inn in Des Moines. First of all, staff were not wearing masks. This was completely irresponsible. 24 hours after I left the hotel, I ended up running 103 fever and had to get a Covid test. Fortunately, for them I was wearing a mask. It's totally irresponsible of this chain not to require staff to wear masks. Second of all in a hotel that was at about 15% capacity, they put us in a room right next to another "very active" couple. The walls are paper thin and we were woken up several times. I'm sure other people have complained that the walls are thin and it made no sense to put us right next to another occupied room. Third of all, they put us in a room facing the train track. The train goes by very often and is loud and blows its horn. We have had an SPG credit card (now Marriott) for a long time so often stay in properties that we can stay in with points. I'm trading in my credit card after this."

"I stayed here on a work trip in late July 2020. Despite the covid pandemic, most amenities were open and everything was very clean. Lots of gym equipment options and a solid pool with a view of the capitol building. The location is just a bit outside of downtown but everything you may need is less than a 15-20 walk away. The hotel feels extremely modern and I definitely consider staying here again."
"The hotel is new and well decorated. Location is a bit removed from the downtown core and the east village, but no more than a five minute walk. Self parking is free. I booked a capitol view corner suite, the room was large and extremely clean, different from the photos online, however the AC did not cool the room even with the drapes drawn all day. Every day it was 100* so this was a big problem. The headboard of the bed is built in front of the air conditioner which blocks the flow and creates a moisture problem on the furniture and carpet. Really dumb design. The bathroom also does not have AC or a vent so it gets very humid and hot after a shower. No one offered a solution like to move me to another room (the hotel was empty) but the engineer offered me a drink ticket after coming up twice trying to fix it. Food is take-out only due to Covid. Overall my expectations weren’t super high, I felt safe with all Covid measures being taken, but I may hesitate to return. "
"We lost power at our house due to the Iowa Derecho. We checked in to the Hilton with our two kids, thinking it should be a great experience since it was a pricey stay (plus paying $18/night for parking!) We thought it’d be worth it but we were disappointed to find there wasn’t any complimentary breakfast or local places for breakfast open before 11am. The only option available was the restaurant inside the hotel (which was stated as Temporarily closed on Apple Maps). There was no information anywhere in our room about what was offered or how to order (At the restaurant or room service) so I went online to try and get some details on this place. The website had a chat feature - We were advised to email the front desk for a menu to their on-site restaurant. We checked out two days ago and I just got the emailed menu back today... Never going to the Hilton again... only plus was that it was clean."

"Check in on August 7th - staying one night. Upon entering the hotel we were impressed. Pretty and clean. We were attending a wedding and had 2 queen beds in our room. My daughter was in the wedding so we had a lot of getting ready and showers and hair and make up going on. Early in the morning on the 8th we were out of toilet paper (?) not sure why but called down and they immediately brought up a roll. Great. Went to the ceremony came back and there was time between that and the reception. All towels were used of course, and room was not cleaned which is common to not clean now (I have traveled a bit during Covid) unless requested. I called down they said we couldn't even request to have it cleaned they would not clean our room during the stay. I asked for more towels as i knew we would shower again in the AM. They said they would not bring towels we had to come get them. They said they are not aloud to deliver anything to rooms. Hmmmmm....a nice hotel like this....will bring toilet paper but not towels. This by the way is unusual! Most hotels will still bring you fresh towels when you need them. After the wedding my daughter wanted to shower - SO went downstairs to get towels - explained his unhappiness and frustrated left with towels. The security followed him up and knocked on our door. Now, we were exhausted, tired and sweaty from our long day. Just us in the room! Security said they got a noise complaint from our room. Mind you we didn't even have the TV on. We were getting ready for bed. We were shocked and said it must have been another room. Security insisted it was our room. I should have wrote his name down. My husband shut the door on him and could not believe they were treating us this way. He knocked again and told us we had to leave. In my 50 plus years I have never been kicked out a hotel. I asked my husband if I could talk to the man and explained our frustration and after thinking about it...he let us stay. Oh...so the next day we ran out of shampoo and they happily brought us shampoo and didn't even ask but brought extra towels. That security guy was horrible. We were not college kids having a party.....we are the customer. We try to be patient as this is a trying time for all....but realize we are also paying the same amount for less services when we come to your hotel...the least you could do is be nice. We will not be visiting this hotel again."
"I’ve now stayed at this hotel at least a half a dozen times, and it’s been very consistent with cleanliness and service. My last visit was a little unique, with the property being extremely busy with multiple events taking place in Des Moines all at once. The crowd in the lobby and restaurant certainly had an effect on service- with the staff at the bar/restaurant often being overwhelmed. To be expected given the situation, but better staffing could have helped. The facility is great, with a great workout facility, nice rooms, lots of TV channels and all the amenities you could possibly need. I was there for 4 nights, and other than the large crowds (almost seemed to be over capacity with the number of people in the lobby and elsewhere) everything was fine. One thing- I was denied a late checkout on Friday. A bit “nit picky” on my part, but I have never had this happen before with Lifetime Titanium status with Marriott. It wouldn’t normally be an issue, except I wasn’t ready to leave for the airport without a shower and the opportunity to change and get ready. My fault- I just assumed my request would be granted based on previous experience and I called the front desk just about 15 minutes before noon. No big deal, no major issues, and will certainly be back again. It’s in a great location, with lots of dining and entertainment options nearby. And if you prefer to stay in the hotel, there is honestly no reason to leave. "
"Large comfortable room — clean and well-appointed — great lobby bar with plenty of seating — and it is downtown, close to several excellent dining options. The lobby staff were very helpful and there is a free airport shuttle. All good on all counts, especially for business travelers."

"One of our desires in staying at a hotel is to have one with 2-bedroom suites. Makes it easier to enjoy the hotel as a family. This is one of the only ones we found near Des Moines, and the rate was reasonable. The hotel is clean, staff are friendly enough, though we didn't interact with them much. This hotel is very close to Jordan Creek Mall, we probably could have easily walked, if we knew how much we were going to buy. Since shopping was on our 'to-do' list, that made it convenient. There was also a kitchette, including a dishwasher, which was nice. They had one television in each bedroom, as well as one in a central area with a couch and smaller stuffed chair. Neighbors above us were a little noisy, but that happens sometimes. The room we had was at the end of the hall, so aside from the upstairs neighbors, we didn't hear much. I didn't find the beds as comfortable as where I usually stay, but will probably try it again, to see if it was just an off day for me."
"Very nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff. They do a good job keeping the parking lot de-iced and snow free. Room was clean and quiet. Nice desk to work on. Good shower. Hot water and good water pressure. Comfy bed. Air/heat worked great. Only thing I didn’t care for was the “breakfast”. Very lack luster for a TownPlace Suites. Also wish they would start putting a Resturant/bar in their hotels. Other than those two things, it was a great stay and I would stay here again. "
"The room was clean and up to my high standards having worked in hospitality for years. This hotel is close to everything you could need. This hotel was very modern and staff seemed nice. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay near Des Moines."

"My husband and I booked one of the king executive suites for a weekend. When we arrived, they had upgraded us to a corner king executive suite. We were impressed because they were requiring masks, and only allowing two people in the elevator at one time. The room was very clean. We needed batteries for the remote that we had brought along in order to watch our Netflix account. I called down and they had someone bring them up immediately. The hotel has many wonderful restaurants nearby (we ordered delivery both nights) and parking was available in the covered parking garage right across the street. We will definitely stay at the Des Lux Hotel the next time that we are visiting Des Moines!!"
"Our plans to Las Vegas were eliminated due to COVID, and I found the Des Lux online. The experience at the Des Lux rivaled that of the Cosmopolitan in Vegas! What a great hotel experience we had at Des Lux! The lobby is so beautifully appointed. Our room and the deluxe romance package were absolutely perfect. We did not visit the bar and the hot breakfast was temporarily replaced with a grab and go continental (COVID restrictions in place), we look forward to coming back on a future special occasion when things are back to normal. "
"After a lot of research, this looked like a great place to splurge a little bit during our 5-day drive coast-to-coast. We weren't disappointed!!! What a beautiful property with ultra cool art in the lobby! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The NICEST gym I've ever been in at a hotel! The rooms were very large and comfortable. Everything so convenient close by - tons of bars and restaurants! COVID protocol complied with closely - everything felt very clean."
