"This hotel was rather a let down. It is a beautiful building with gorgeous gardens and rooms, and wonderfully unique restaurant the oak room. Being part of the handpicked range with its other hotels including the Bailbrook hotel, it has nothing of the glamour and prestige of the others in the group. The issues, we arrived and it took 10 minutes for a member of staff to appear. Now I’m not sure that’s their fault, the staff seem over worked and like they have to do a million jobs. Throughout our stay everywhere seemed to be missing staff. We were lead up stairs to our room, to breakfast trays still outside other rooms (it was 1:30pm), to find that our junior suite had no bath. They politely changed our room to the other junior suite, but I felt whoever ended up with the mistress room should not be paying the same as the queens room which is much nicer. The mistress room was also not clean, I found some used tissues around the room on the floor. Our second room however was very lovely. Drinks before dinner. They clearly don’t have a proper bar staff on, they have no fruit for the gin cocktails in their menu, and the bar appears very cluttered and un-tidy. But we got some drinks and enjoyed the lounge, and the lady on the front desk in the evening was very friendly and polite. Dinner. Now I cannot fault the food, it was amazing. However (the feedback of the whole trip), we refused to pay service as there was none. We had to ask three times for some olive oil for our bread (after having told our waiter we couldn’t eat dairy - and telling the hotel in advance). It took along time to get our bill, as the waiter also seemed to be making our drinks and taking our plates back to the restaurant. Which meant often there was a room full of guests with no staff. We noticed on the way back to our rooms and this morning coming down for breakfast that the mess we had noticed on the stairs and in the reception area hadn’t been cleaned since we arrived. Also notable were beer cans in front of the hotel. Breakfast, the food was lovely. But an issue with my husbands breakfast occurred where they put some sauce on we had requested wasn’t there. No apology was made until the new breakfast arrived, after I had finished mine. Overall, we enjoyed the food but there clearly isn’t enough staff. It could be a wonderful hotel, but the management need to make some serious changes. For example we were asked how our stay was and we replied umm, ok. No questions asked by the reception. We got our bill and we said we got no service so we didn’t want to pay the service charge. Again no questions were asked as to why. My husband even asked the lady behind reception if it was normal to not enquire why someone did not want to pay a service charge. Her response was no because it’s optional. I really hope this hotel turns itself around, because it lets down the handpicked hotel name. There are not many big changes that would need to occur. Though I do feel staff should lea"
"We wanted to give ourselves a little treat and this was perfect. The staff were excellent especially the receptionist and the head waiter. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable but the floor was a little creaky and there was a cracked tile on the floor of the bathroom. Our free bottle of wine was not in our room on arrival but the receptionist organised for it to be served to us with dinner and it was a decent Chardonnay. Dinner was delicious, nice selection on the menu. Breakfast was ok there was also a menu to choose from so everything was freshly cooked but our poached eggs were overdone and the waitress did not offer any toast or sauces. "
"We spent a pretty perfect afternoon at Woodlands Park having afternoon tea on the terrace on a sunny day. The service, food and setting were all excellent and we were well looked after. Our temperatures were taken on arrival and it was quiet so social distancing was no problem. Some hand sanitiser placed outside the washrooms would be a good addition. Would highly recommend it."
