"I have to admit I have traveled the world and back. But this was a time we’re I really didn’t think I could get a room downtown at the last minute. But, when I tell you the staff made it happen in a magnificent way it would be a understatement. The Hotel Ballast has went above and beyond. I would just like to give credit to the great staff that helped me and my family. Thanks to Daniel Perkins, Leigh, Nadisouska, Emily, Caleb, Ryan, Dave, Daniel(Parking Mgr), Alexa(Board and Barrel), Terry(Parking), and the night housekeeper. If you ever have the opportunity to visit this location, I promise you will feel just like you are home. I’ve never experienced such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Oh and the greatest part was that they were hosting 6 different group meetings(Events) and a wedding. I think I could go on and on about my experience, but at the end of the day I really just want to say Thank You All for such an amazing job. Hotel Ballast is the best 5Star hotel in know. May God continue to bless you all and your families. I am a Hilton Member for life. J. Revels"
"Valet was friendly and quick. The front desk was helpful and upgraded my room to a view room/king. The room was clean, comfortable and the furniture was newer. I really enjoyed the view and wish I could have had time to walk the boardwalk below. Room service was SO GOOD!! It has been awhile since I have had hot soup arrive hot during room service. It was delicious and made for the perfect end to my day. It would have been nice to stay more than one evening and explore the whole hotel and the restaurants. I plan on coming back this summer."
"I have wanted to stay at this hotel on the Cape Fear River as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, while not all bad, it did not live up to my expectations. Before we even arrived, we had to drive around to avoid a lot of street closures due to construction. I feel like the hotel should have communicated this via the confirmation email or in the app. Once we finally got there, we parked and wandered the whole way around the building trying to find the entrance. Again, a few simple signs pointing visitors in the right direction would have gone a long ways. I checked into the hotel via the app, so we went right to our room. One elevator was out of order, so we had to wait a good while every time. Upon first glance, we were impressed. The rooms are attractive and modern. I have shared photos of room 910. We had a historic city view, which honestly wasn't great because of all the construction. That isn't the hotels fault, obviously, but still a bummer. We spent the evening out and arrived back around midnight for some a shower and rest. In the lovely bathroom, I noticed mildew in the shower. That was disappointing. Then, once laying in bed, I saw mold around the A/C vent. Now, we live in Charleston, SC so I know what a challenge humid environments can be. But, visible mold? I woke up with a sore throat, cough, and congestion. I honestly believe it was from mold being blown through the room all night. Speaking of the AC, the lowest temperature is could be set is 68. That is usually fine, but it was SUCH a hot day that the room never cooled off much. I believe I should be able to keep my hotel room at 90 or 60 if I want. Breakfast is not included, but Wilmington has enough wonderful places to eat that we did not miss it. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience. But, at this price point, I expected much more. I didn't complain to management at the time because, thankfully, we only stayed one night. We will not return."
