"The service was fairly good. Every time I called the front office about more towels or needed help with anything they were there to answer and moved swiftly. The building and overall facilities are nice! I’m pretty sure it’s a newer building. It was a really good stay overall, this may be the best hotel in Wilmington. "

"My husband and I stayed here for two nights as part of a package to see the Brunswick Forest development. I just have to say that my initial feeling was that this property is tired. Fountain in the front was not operational (I'm pretty sure that's what it was?) Lamp in our room was leaning over, tiles were missing in the bathroom, and the internet never worked for us. Rooms were quite small. It is close to downtown though the walk to get there has you passing through areas where you wouldn't want to be in the dark of night. Parking garage is around the corner and very well lit but even there I didn't feel 100% safe. Bed was comfortable and our room was quiet."
"Upon arrival a smiling and friendly Connor was there to greet me, wait while got situated after a 4 hour drive and escort me into the lobby while assisting with my belongings! He explained my parking options, offered to assist me with my luggage to my room and assisted with a few dinner options! Top notch!! "
"Great place to stay, excellent service and great staff. Very clean, comfortable and quiet environment. Want to thank all staff including Hope, Belka, Megan, Te'ara and Nadine for making our family vacation more enjoyable. Appreciate all your help!!!"

"We stayed for an extended 4 day weekend in one of the oceanfront balcony rooms. Stuff that middle age guy like me really liked. Comfortable bed in a room with a great view and ZERO noise. Could not hear people in hallway talking or door closing. Lots of easy to use plugs and USB ports. Very comfortable patio chairs as well as a small table and chairs for eating while looking at the ocean. Wife loved the decor, which was nicer than pretty much any east coast beach hotel we have enjoyed. She loved the rain shower. Staff was amazing from top to bottom. No one was lacking, but the restaurant (Food and bev?) manager was on top of everything we wanted and the chef/staff killed it. We were initially a bit curious about the cost of the food but one bite of that Blue Crab sammie and it was clear why...just nothing but purely fresh crab and no discernible filler on a buttery Brioche which was just right. Fries just right in fresh oil. The smash burger after an afternoon of beach beer was just right. Very filling, but not a mess to eat and clearly, good beef. I could go on, but just go ahead and enjoy their food. Pimento cheese and the breakfast sammie also right on track. We ordered nothing fancy, just bar /filling food. The bar cocktails are also spot on. Like anything else, the ingredients matter and they used good mixers like Fever Tree Ginger Beer etc for mixing. These are not cheap mixers, and neither are the cocktails. The grounds are very relaxing with nice touches. LOVE being a quiet 3 block walk to the bars and other restaurants. Just cross the street to the nice sound front area they maintain with nice chairs for sunset. My only frustrations. King size beds require king size pillows, not a dozen half size pillows. I have a big damn head. Stupid COVID masks never cover it well and small pillows do not work either. The rental umbrellas/chairs frustrated as the small umbrellas never could cover the two chairs at one time. Always some part of us that was subject to the sun. At $30/day I wish I had just walked to the beach supply store and bought cheap chairs and a decent sized umbrella."
"As I lay in bed and listen to the waves of the ocean, I think about how we almost missed out. When we drove by to check out the hotel, the outside did not look very inviting. We had a recommendation to stay here so we went with that advice. From the time we walked in, the staff was friendly and accommodating. I lost my drivers license at the airport on the way here so had no proof of my military service but was given the discount anyway. The restaurant was amazing and the manager Derek was super cool. We even had the owner Bill stop by our table to say hello once he found out we were moving here. Our first day in Wilmington was awesome and we are thrilled to be moving here. The people are so friendly and inviting. We are going to do the sunset cruise today and I’m sure it will be nothing short of the same friendly and fun atmosphere we are getting to love about this town."
"We stayed in room 411, a king deluxe with a balcony, and it was lovely. It’s been recently renovated and was clean, bright, and had a phenomenal ocean view. We loved having the balcony to sit out on. Staff was excellent - friendly, efficient and seemed happy for us to be there. It really made our visit so enjoyable. We had a lovely dinner at the onsite restaurant, East, as well as a nice lunch by the pool. Highly recommend!"

"Our party of four including two teenagers had an excellent one night stay at the Residence Inn. We felt safe from a covid-19 standpoint. Hand sanitizer is available at check-in. The room was spacious, well-fitted and clean and the tv channels were plentiful. The outdoor space was also plentiful including a patio, a pool and as basketball court. The breakfast buffet offered many options. I would recommend offering fresh fruits such as apples, bananas or apples as opposed to fruit cups. The hotel location is excellent as well, across from the Mayfair town center with its shops and restaurant and a 5-10 min drive to the Marina in Wrightsville Beach."
"The staff are super friendly and helpful. The check in and out was super easy and fast! The room (Studio) was spacious and comfy. You can actually login to your own Netflix acct in your room! The hotel itself is located perfectly between Wrightsville Beach and downtown Wilmington. I was so happy that they are pet friendly."
"Great job by the staff to handle our family of 5 this weekend. All boys + Aussie dog with mom. They handled all our questions and drama, quickly and with a smile! Beautiful facility, gorgeous greenway for dog walking, clean rooms, breakfast variety. This is our second time here and we will be back a LOT!"

"I have to admit I have traveled the world and back. But this was a time we’re I really didn’t think I could get a room downtown at the last minute. But, when I tell you the staff made it happen in a magnificent way it would be a understatement. The Hotel Ballast has went above and beyond. I would just like to give credit to the great staff that helped me and my family. Thanks to Daniel Perkins, Leigh, Nadisouska, Emily, Caleb, Ryan, Dave, Daniel(Parking Mgr), Alexa(Board and Barrel), Terry(Parking), and the night housekeeper. If you ever have the opportunity to visit this location, I promise you will feel just like you are home. I’ve never experienced such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Oh and the greatest part was that they were hosting 6 different group meetings(Events) and a wedding. I think I could go on and on about my experience, but at the end of the day I really just want to say Thank You All for such an amazing job. Hotel Ballast is the best 5Star hotel in know. May God continue to bless you all and your families. I am a Hilton Member for life. J. Revels"
"Valet was friendly and quick. The front desk was helpful and upgraded my room to a view room/king. The room was clean, comfortable and the furniture was newer. I really enjoyed the view and wish I could have had time to walk the boardwalk below. Room service was SO GOOD!! It has been awhile since I have had hot soup arrive hot during room service. It was delicious and made for the perfect end to my day. It would have been nice to stay more than one evening and explore the whole hotel and the restaurants. I plan on coming back this summer."
"I have wanted to stay at this hotel on the Cape Fear River as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, while not all bad, it did not live up to my expectations. Before we even arrived, we had to drive around to avoid a lot of street closures due to construction. I feel like the hotel should have communicated this via the confirmation email or in the app. Once we finally got there, we parked and wandered the whole way around the building trying to find the entrance. Again, a few simple signs pointing visitors in the right direction would have gone a long ways. I checked into the hotel via the app, so we went right to our room. One elevator was out of order, so we had to wait a good while every time. Upon first glance, we were impressed. The rooms are attractive and modern. I have shared photos of room 910. We had a historic city view, which honestly wasn't great because of all the construction. That isn't the hotels fault, obviously, but still a bummer. We spent the evening out and arrived back around midnight for some a shower and rest. In the lovely bathroom, I noticed mildew in the shower. That was disappointing. Then, once laying in bed, I saw mold around the A/C vent. Now, we live in Charleston, SC so I know what a challenge humid environments can be. But, visible mold? I woke up with a sore throat, cough, and congestion. I honestly believe it was from mold being blown through the room all night. Speaking of the AC, the lowest temperature is could be set is 68. That is usually fine, but it was SUCH a hot day that the room never cooled off much. I believe I should be able to keep my hotel room at 90 or 60 if I want. Breakfast is not included, but Wilmington has enough wonderful places to eat that we did not miss it. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience. But, at this price point, I expected much more. I didn't complain to management at the time because, thankfully, we only stayed one night. We will not return."

"Since we live just a couple of hours from Wilmington we have taken numberous day trips to the area and stayed at many of the local hotels which are pretty much interchangeable, This hotel was the exception, The rooms are bright, elegant and unique, and the staff was unfailingly friendly and helpful . We arrived for breakfast 10 minutes after they broke down the buffet and I was led into the kitchen by Rexhap, who opened everything back up and didn't;'t rest until my entire family had everything they wanted. It was an example to my children of how good strangers can be to each other, and we appreciate both the breakfast and the life lesson"
"Our family has a very nice one-night stay in this suites hotel: room is super spacious, a sofa bed, and chairs in a divided area of the room. Beds are clean and comfortable. Bathroom is big too. It is enough for 5 people , maybe plus a dog. Staff at the hotel is nice and helpful: the housekeeping ladies gave me several towels after knowing I will have two children coming up. The room even has a walkin closet for ironing the clothes. Very clean--important during covid."
"Fantastic place to stay!!! All of the staff were friendly and went out of their way to meet our needs. On our trip down the blower went out on my cars a/c miserably hot ride. Paul the maintenance manager not only lent me his tools to change it out when he saw me struggling with it he finished the job for me. Awesome staff especially Paul and Jonathan with the maintenance crew!!!! Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart! Will definitely be back!"

"My wife and I stayed a night here on a recent quick trip to Wilmington. It was our first stay in a hotel since the "pandemic era" started. Staff seemed to be taking all appropriate precautions and were very pleasant. Breakfast was still being offered, but in a modified form - much more limited selection and served by staff from behind a counter... but still adequate & appreciated. Our room was clean & comfortable."
"This was our second visit in two week for medical procedures. Location is close the hospital and multiple doctor’s offices. Property is new. And it shows. Staff attention to sanitation and disinfecting procedures was obvious. Eased our concern for COVID-19. Front desk staff and housekeeping were most helpful and appreciated. Needless to say this will be our hotel choice on our next visit to Wilmington."
"Long story short there are bedbugs at this hotel! They were NOT surprised at all when we showed them, after having to call the front desk numerous times. It was 12:30am when the bedbug was crawling on my daughter’s bed. Originally we were told by the rude night manager that they were completely booked and couldn’t give us a new room. I then called around to other hotels and couldn’t find another room that would allow us to check in at that hour. Finally, miraculously after I got upset, the manager found us a room in the ‘completely booked hotel.’ We moved out things to the new room, but didn’t sleep the entire night! We checked out the next morning and I spoke with the manager on duty, she did apologize and was kind, but I was told the entire reservation would be cancelled and we would not be charged for the night we stayed. That was true for four days, and then the charge for the night we stayed showed up on my cc. This hotel looks nice, all be it a bit run down, but if there were bedbugs in our room, there are bedbugs in others! Be cautious of booking this hotel."
