Paseo de la Presa de la Olla 80-A, Guanajuato, Mexico
"We had very high expectations before arriving! Generally, I have to say that we spent a great time at Villa María Cristina, but to be honest, I have to mention a few details that we noticed: 1. We spent all mornings sunbathing or just relaxing at both of the pool areas... there were maintenance crews passing by all the time, and that's kind of uncomfortable, to say the least. Two out of our three days, the pool inside the spa area was treated with chemicals to keep it clean... when the spa was open for guest use, and not at nighttime when the spa is closed! 2. The restaurant food was very good, but... every time we ate there, it took too long for the food to get to our table! The bar was even slower than the restaurant: One night we came in to the bar to have a couple of drinks before going to sleep, and when I ordered a mezcal to the waiter, I noticed a weird face on him, then he walked to the other end of the hall and disappeared, and after 15 minutes another waiter came and asked me what I wanted to drink, because the first waiter didn't know a bit about what I wanted to drink... so once again I said a mezcal, then he walked away, and came back 15 minutes later with my mezcal... so that's a total of 30 minutes to have a mezcal over my table! 3. One morning we went to the gym to do some workout, and I wanted to use the climbing machine, but... it wasn't working! Aside from those little details, my general rating of this hotel would have been perfect! Sorry!"
"The Villa Maria Christina is a class act without being stuffy. The rooms are spacious with wood floors, art, nice cabinetry and a very comfortable bed. A shower and jacuzzi. A hidden benefit: they have their own water purifying system so you can drink out of the tap and don’t have to mess with bottled water — though they do furnish free bottles daily. Breakfasts are delicious with wonderful fruit and made-to-order hot dishes, again quite reasonably priced. We didn’t eat other meals at the hotel, preferring to eat in the Centro as part of absorbing the local culture. The hotel is sited about a 25 minute walk (or US$ 3.00 taxi) to the downtown area, which is a real advantage because the area is very quiet. What separates this property from most hotels is the visible presence of the general manager, Klaus Lapp. He seems to be everywhere, especially checking with guests in a sincere manner (not the usual off-hand comment “how are things going”) and follows through on suggestions or inquiries. I’d return here in a heartbeat :)"
"This is the most amazing hotel someone would expect in such a destination. Beyond Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Capella or any VIRTUOSO property I have lately stayed at. The premises are absolutely gorgeous, and the room was truly amazing in regards to size, furnishings, amenities, commodities & sleep quality. Rest assure that I will be back soon, and recommend this hideaway for anyone traveling to Mexico.... By the way, the town of Guanajuato is fabulous too. There is a photographic scene wherever you turn. Absolutely stunning!!! This is a MUST SEE place for every tourist visiting Mexico, and Villa Maria Christina is the MUST accommodation to stay at... I promise, you won’t regret!!!"
