"I have just returned from a 2 night Ultimate Spa Break with my partner and I want to express how disappointed I am with the overall stay. As part of our deal was Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Prosecco in room, spa day and 2 treatments and afternoon tea. On arrival in the room, the Prosecco was not cold but was warm, despite it being in a bucket. There was no iron in the room either, only a ironing board so I had to call reception to request one. On the Friday night at Dinner, the service was appalling, the restaurant didn’t look busy at all and only appeared to be 2 floor staff. It took 10 mins for our drinks to be brought to us. Upon ordering the waitress didn’t know what draught beers they were so she had to go away and return. All restaurant staff should know what alcohol they is available. We ordered 2 burgers as we had been craving them all day on our very long 3 hour journey to the hotel. My partner ordered the burger without onion but when it arrived it came with no salad and sauce at all! When we called the Manager over and told her this so didn’t take our plates away but instead brought out the salad and the sauce on a plate! But this was after 15 mins of waiting for Tomato and Lettuce! By this point both meals were cold. She should have taken both dishes back to the kitchen. We ate some of the food as we were both starving after a very long day but not all of it. There was no check back on our food or looked like any other table. We ordered a second drink but again it took 10 mins for the drink to come to us. The service and food was not to standard for a rosette restaurant. At breakfast - this wasn’t very organised. We went down for breakfast at 9.30am but nearly all tables were stacked with plates and then the free clear tables had napkins or cutlery missing and were not set. When approaching the buffet there was not many hot plates present, there were only 3. The food on the hot buffet was pretty much empty as to the point where we were scraping the bottom. The cold buffet was well stocked and was plentiful. There wasn’t many staff around to tell them about the plates or hot food either. On Saturday we visited the spa for our spa day and treatments, I can’t fault the spa at all as it was lovely and all staff in there were friendly. The afternoon tea in the spa however was again disappointing. This was served in the bar area which in my opinion should be served in an area in the spa itself as to then create a relaxing atmosphere but this was far from it. I told the bar staff we had arrived for afternoon tea and ordered 2 drinks to go with it and she said she would bring them over with our tea. They were other spa people in there too having afternoon tea with set tables ready, white clothe, side plate etc but ours was not. 10 mins went by and we still didn’t have our drinks we ordered or our table set. 20 mins then went by and the afternoon tea arrived but the table was not set so the bar staff had to come over and lay t"
"We had a wonderful time here, for a one nights Spa break, food, facilities, comfort of our room, Spa facilities fabulous,Massage excellent , i highly recommend this Hotel , staff so friendly and welcoming, amazing value . Its a beautiful , peaceful setting surrounded by landscaped lawns, Golf course surrounds the Hotel as it is a Golfing Mecca in Cheshire. Cant fault our stay, we will be back but for a longer stay ,Hotel taking a very responsible attitude to the Corona situation, but Guests have been taking / stealing the Toilet rolls !!! Just to add we did not , x"
"Overall a good experience, Clean warm comfortable room and an enjoyable massage. There were problems and the response of the staff at this hotel are the reason for it being very good. Without their concern and efforts to make things right, the rating would be lower. There appeared to be staff shortages, which put undue pressure on the remaining staff who coped very well. Thank you"

"My expectations were high, and that’s the truth. The web site descriptions gave to me an image of a place in the countryside that would more than satisfy and please. I hasten at this point to add, that these are strange times and the COVID situation has presented us all with Many complex challenges. That said, we are all finding it difficult to do what we are used to doing, and we must adjust our expectations and be a little bit more understanding, I believe that I am very understanding and thoughtful right now to any short falls that may arise due directly or indirectly due to covids impact on normality. This short break was to celebrate our anniversary, a much well earned break, and we were so looking forward to the hospitality promised from the web pages of Willington Hall. We arrived at Willington Hall, the exterior looked pleasing. The greeting, perhaps could have been more welcoming, sincere and enthusiastic. The atmosphere and general feeling was one of something missing, no energy or joy. The room was almost like the web images, and it was of good size, it was a suite, and for the price, I have To say, I have been in much better rooms with much more To add to the overall promise of comfort. Lacking in accessories, little things like a fridge, a trouser press, slippers, bathrobe, bath Matt, shaving mirror, and bathroom must haves, like shampoo conditioner body cream ect, a couple of warm bottles of water were left on a set of draws, in the sun! There were two little sleeves of Coffee, and two biscuits, no hot chocolate. But the bed was clean and comfortable, a big four poster, the views were splendid, the sun cascaded through every window, there was much peace and tranquility, the countryside made you feel really relaxed, the house keeping clearly is good, in terms of cleanliness. To be fair the room furnishings are typical for the style of the hotel, sure there was room for upgrading, but the ambience the views and the peace, compensated for the little things that could have been refreshed. The room was at the rear of the building, room 1, and access was easy, up one flight of creaky wooden stairs, the carpets were nice and added a nice feeling to the approach to the room. The carpet in the room too was lovely. A good nights sleep was had and the fresh air was so nice, no sound of cars or people anywhere. We went down to sit on the terrace, a lovely aspect, and very nice substantial seating, was spoiled for lack of cushions, so had they been in place, linger longer comes to mind. The wine arrive, in a warm steel sleeve with little ice to ensure the bottle and it’s contents would be served cold. Delivery was not with a smile, more functional than sincere. We we were hoping to have lunch, but the first part of the service convinced us that maybe we should try elsewhere. Which we did. We returned having made a table reservation for 8 pm, I chose the table I would like to dine at, and the tab"
"We had a good stay at Willington Hall based on a 2 night Groupon deal. A lot of considerations should be taken as they had only just reopened & in a transition from COVID closure. We found both the gardens & front of the Hall breathtaking. They have been excellently maintained since its construction in 1829. There are some wonderful interiors such as the staircase & the orangery. The Hall’s strong point is it’s very dedicated staff team. We were looked after very well by all but the star in this team is Michel. He has a genuine passion for his role & making guests feel as comfortable as possible. We dined both nights and recommend using the hotels restaurant. The Groupon deal included dinner on the first night, afternoon tea the second afternoon & breakfast on both mornings. The menu on the first night was of an average standard. The second night was truly fantastic (fillet steak). We thought the breakfast was fantastic also. Michel highlighted how much more would usually be on offer however, at the direction of the Government it had to be limited. From a constructive point, my view is that Willington Hall is a ‘sleeping giant’. It could be a 4 or 5 star establishment easily. It has the structure in place to achieve this however, the rooms look tired and neglected on the investment side of things. I totally agree they should be kept authentic and in line with its history. We stayed in Room 11 which had a great view of the front of the Hall. The bed was extremely comfortable, room spacious & an impressive looking walk-in shower. On the other hand, the heating appeared to be not working & an oil heater was provided. The paint work needed tending to with many scuff marks and the odd flaky patches. The shower pressure was the lowest I’ve seen in any hotel & the screen was very loose. The general decor in the bathroom looked a little ‘put together’. As I previously stated, this venue is a sleeping giant. The potential is huge & with the passion of its current staff I honestly believe this could be something spectacular. We were happy with our stay however, both agreed if it had been a special occasion we would have been disappointed. Definitely worth another stay in our opinion."
"Me and my husband stayed here for 2 nights on a Groupon Offer, 2 nights b&b with evening meal on the 1st night and Afternoon Tea on the 2nd day. It was brilliant value and I just don’t see how the make any profit. The room we stayed in was lovely, with tea and coffee making facilities, 2 bottles of water each day, lovely big fluffy towels and a really large bathroom with bath and separate shower. There are only 12 rooms in the hotel, so there is a lovely friendly feel and the staff are really nice and very friendly. There seems to be quite a few very young staff, but they obviously have been well trained. The food for the included evening meal (with special menu for Groupon customers) was very nice and everything was well presented. You got 3 courses with several things to choose in each course. The Afternoon Tea included in the price was lovely and again well presented. There are 2 small rooms to sit in after your meal or if you don’t have a meal, there is a bar menu offered. The drinks in the bar are reasonably priced. There is nothing really in the area if you want to go out in the evening and you would need to drive on narrow dark country lanes. But if you want a lovely relaxing couple of nights away, this is definitely a Hotel worth a visit. "

"A haven of peace and tranquillity, this traditional English country house lies in a unique rural setting, surrounded by beautiful gardens and a 60 acre lake, yet only 12 miles from historic Chester. Set within a grand Victorian mansion, the hotel features 28 bedrooms and 8 suites, most of which enjoy spectacular views over the lakes and gardens. All rooms are beautifully appointed and individually designed, many with antique furnishings, Persian rugs and lots of extra touches to give that home-from-home feeling. The area plays host to a wide variety of activities, from shopping and sightseeing in nearby Chester, to motor racing at the nearby Oulton Park Racing Circuit, or country pursuits such as clay pigeon and laser shooting, archery and golf. For the more adventurous, hot air ballooning and off-road racing are also available nearby. Nunsmere Hall is renowned for its cuisine in the award-winning Crystal Restaurant. It prepares à la carte dining with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. You can dine alfresco throughout the summer months on the beautiful terrace. Children are welcome. However, those under the age of 12 years are not permitted in the restaurant after 19:00. On request, room service or an early meal in the restaurant can be arranged. The hotel strongly recommends making advanced dinner reservations in order to avoid disappointment. After dinner, why not relax in the wood panelled cocktail bar and luxurious lounges which open onto the terrace, which overlook the Italian sunken garden."

"Having stayed at other village hotels we got a very good deal and deiceed to try Warrington. Firstly lots of parking and this is free. As with most village hotels self check in, which was easy. Room was nice and very well decorated. All the amenities needed. Including iron etc. Bar was busy but first football weekend. Good location and close to town. Would highly recommend. "
"Not a great experience at this hotel at all. When I arrived we found they had double booked our room, our family room was no longer available so we were given a double with a rock hard sofa bed. Due to COVID we needed to book a slot to use the pool the next morning so we spent 15mins at the pool reception going through the process.  When we arrived the next morning they had lost our booking.  Luckily others had not turned up so we took their place The worst part of the stay was when we arrived for breakfast at 9, we were told rather rudely, that breakfast had ended at 9 - shouted from across the room.  When we complained at reception we found other guests complaining about the same thing - it turns out despite the notices in the hotel that breakfast is served until 9:30 on weekends, their hotel staff failed to tell anyone things had changed.  We were all offered a refund.  As I booked through Hotels.com they told me a manager would sort it out later in the day so not to worry. A few days later I chased Hotels.com for the refund and they advised that upon speaking with the hotel manager they were told it's against hotel policy to offer this kind of refund but Village would offer us free breakfast if we book again!   Despite Village Hotel being useless I must say Hotels.com were great and refunded me the £38 breakfast charge I had paid despite Village Hotel refusing.  Whilst I'd recommend Hotels.com I would go out of my way not to stay at this chain again."
"Club room OK and clean, dinner was mediocre £18 for 4 King prawns in a sauce which can only be described as milk was poor, one bar person one front of house, no covid track and trace, people was just sitting anywhere they liked a bit un nerving. Waited at least 30 mins for cheesecake which is no blame on the poor member of staff who was running around like a headless chicken, breakfast poor, no hash browns or fruit, toast rock-hard, when we asked for poached or fried we was told they can't due to the current situation apparently??we're talking eggs here not steak, only scrambled on offer. o watered down orange juice was not good, tea and coffee on offe was OK, We have stayed in 5 different hotels since the industry was allowed to reopen, unfortunately this stay was not great I'm afraid and we've stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past, very dubious about returning"

"Visited for lunch as part of a group. Ordered mussels as a main course. They had been kept under a hot lamp for so long that the ones on top were actually crisp! The sauce was ridiculously salty. Had to ask for a side plate for the shells - when it came it was too small. I complained to the server at the first opportunity, and asked him to pass my complaint to the manager. He obviously didn't do this, because when I went to pay I had to repeat my complaint. I didn't get any sort of apology - in fact the manager responded quite aggressively by saying 'You ate them!'. At no point was any apology given. Avoid this place. It takes a special sort of lack of skill / interest to screw up something as simple as a plate of mussels. It takes a special sort of lack of customer care not to apologise. My group was part of a local organisation with several hundred members. I doubt that any of us will return to the Royal Oak, and I would advise anybody who cares about good food and goo customer service to give this place a wide berth."
"We stayed here for one night rather than a more expensive hotel in Chester & had dinner here as well. The room was on the second floor & big and comfortable. only gripe I would have is that you can hear water thanks filling in the roof space at night. The dinner was excellent, served by friendly & efficient staff & breakfast was hot & fresh too. Lovely hotel, amazing value for money!"
"Stayed here for one night over valentines weekend. Lovely room, lovely food, nice bar area. We really enjoyed our stay. Room was clean and comfortable with all the facilities we needed. I would definitely return to the Royal Oak. Top tip:: The pork Belly bites where amazing, we wished we would of ordered two portions of these for our starter. "

"Beautiful room, lovely staff, great food - enjoyed a beef brisket sandwich in the bar lounge and staff couldn’t have been more polite and helpful. Can’t complain about any of that as it was lovely. The issue I have is that my room was above the kitchen/laundry which wasn’t a problem at night - no noise at all - but come 6am they switched on equipment that vibrates into my room and woke me up - sounded like tumble dryers. Called reception who confirmed this was the case and they would see what they could do...here I am at 6.46 now wide awake and the noise has continued on, so I’m getting up now having lost 45 minutes sleep. Then the morning delivery arrived at 6.15am and began unloading which was even worse as it was directly under my window. Not their fault but again not ideal for me. I am fully aware that the days work has to begin at some point but if that’s the case could you possibly leave the dryers off until at least 6.30am to be fair to your guests who want to sleep that little bit later.....this has affected my rating which is a shame as this is a stunning hotel. Great breakfast plenty of choice and again, very welcoming staff."
"With all the Covid restrictions I wasn’t expecting too much...how wrong was I. The Hotel was not over crowded, the staff were really pleasant and couldn’t do enough for all the guests the meals were lovely in the bar and restaurant, the use of the facilities like the gym, sauna, swimming pool was controlled. I even booked a Spa treatment which was amazing..I think the lady was called Sammy. But the whole experience was amazing and I look forward to coming there again. "
"We stayed one night last week on our way to the Lake District for a long weekend. We chose it because the hotel has tesla superchargers in the car park. We were pleasantly surprised by the staff who were very friendly and helpful. The room is so so and a bit tired but adequate. The breakfast was lovely - partly because the waiting staff was so nice and they obviously take pride in their work. It is rare these days to find non grumpy servers in this type of establishment. Long may it last!"

"I stayed with a friend last weekend for 2 nights. It was a super little pub, the staff were amazing, the food was delicious as we ate there both nights. And the room was clean and tidy and great for what we needed. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a great time mixing with the locals and getting involved with their quiz for the landlady’s birthday!!! And a late checkout was needed!!! We did a great 8 mile circular walk from the pub and would definitely return to such a friendly and welcoming village pub. Just what we needed. Very COVID safe. It would be fantastic if the bedrooms got a refurb like downstairs but wouldn’t put us off from booking again. Thanks for everything guys. From Llinos and Bev."
"I stayed with a friend for 2 nights at the red lion, and we ate there both nights too. Cannot fault this little pub the food and service was excellent. The room was clean and tidy with everything working as it should. This is a lovely little village pub that is family owned and the landlord was so welcoming to us and was always up for a chat/made sure we were getting good service. My friend is gluten free and he even wrote her a seperate menu with all the food choices she could have that were gluten free/made into gluten free despite it being on the printed menu anyway! Well worth a visit and would definitely stay here again."
"we really enjoyed our stay at the red lion from start to finish. With friendly staff, good food and a great atmosphere. The rooms were spotless and clean. We both had a good nights sleep as the place is in such a quiet location. The breakfast was spot on. And all covid-19 measures were set in place. We would definitely stay there again when we return to Oulton Park. Not got a bad word to say about the place."

"I stayed here on Saturday with a group of friends, we had a lovely welcome on arrival the room was very clean and spacious, the bed was really comfy best night sleep in a long time! The food was wonderful really hot and plenty of it, so much choice on the menu it was hard to choose so we have booked another night there in April. Staff really went out of the way to make our stay a memorable one... and it certainly was. See you all again in April."
"We came here for Sunday lunch and was really impressed. The hotel has had a complete makeover and looks really good. The place has a chilled bar vibe. For starters I had the nachos and for main the pork roast. My partner had the same but pate to start. Food was amazing will definitely return"
"Went in for breakfast yesterday morning was greeted by one of the staff think her name was Rachel the service was excellent from start to finish & very friendly the breakfast was fantastic all cooked to perfection so compliments to the chef would definitely be going back in the future"

"Room was a good size, with plenty of free floor space. It would've been nice to get a small sofa in there. TV was awkwardly mounted at the corner of the desk instead of on the wall. Bathroom looks liked it escaped from the 80s. The bathroom was clean, that was not a problem though. The bathroom fan didn't work, causing a lot of humidity to hang around after showering. Shower was in the bathtub, but it was a great shower with lots of hot water and high water pressure. Soap dispensers need to be revisited. Most of the soap flushes away from your hand in the shower. The food in the connecting pub was very good, although not overly healthy. The breakfast (an additional cost) was fair for the price. Usually the quality was pretty good with an okay selection. If you want to stream a movie (or use the internet for anything else than email, really) you need to pay for an upgrade to the Ultimate Internet. Regular internet had a download speed of about 512 kbps. Ultimate took it to 2 to 4 mbps. Better, but not great. The internet is served by TalkTalk (Virgin). Personnel was friendly and smiley. We missed one towel (how come that always happens to me??) but that was quickly rectified. The mattress was a bit hard to my taste, but other people may think it's just fine. Overal a pleasant experience, but I won't deny that the hotel is in need of a refresh. For the price, I'm not complaining too much. One last thing. Exciting the parking to the right was a death wish. Very dangerous for people who're not used to driving on the left. It's safer the exit to the left and make a u-turn later on."
"Great welcome by reception. Lovely spacious clean room. Comfortable bed. Wonderful breakfast the following morning at the Blue Cap next door. Fantastic range of continental and full English Breakfast. The staff were very friendly and we would definitely return.."
"Clean rooms. friendly happy staff Comfortable beds and convenient pub next door. Set back from road so not noisey Food in the pub next door good value tasty and great range. Easy to find and great signposting "
